For the past few years my family has done a food challenge. The first year was a rib challenge and last time was a wing challenge. There are huge bragging rights involved, as well as a trophy lol

We have impartial judges do a blind taste test, and all entries are ranked from first to worst.

This year, we are doing an appetizer challenge. The perameters are that it must be 1-2 bites and must include something wrapped in something else.

I've been scouring online but haven't really found anything that has grabbed me as a sure fire winner.

So, I need help!

I'd love some suggestions for an appetizer that is going to wow everyone.

UPDATE- First off, thank you everybody for these fantastic ideas. I'm now thinking that I'm going to have to do something over and above to win this thing. It sounds silly, but I'm going to need something that's showy, either in presentation, or with a prop or something. I meant it when I said there's a lot at stake, non the least bragging rights.

Dietary Restrictions- No tree nuts, No pork, No shellfish (because I don't feel comfortable handling it)

thank you :flower3: :flower3:

Maybe some sort of lumpia (aka tiny spring rolls).

I would suggest xiaolongbao (soup filled dumplings), but if you don't have pork in those things, it's not as good.

mushroom risotto balls ? not sure if arancini style counts as "wrapped"
honey figs in phyllo

Would stuffed meatballs work? You can do any kind of cheese filling, add in herbs and it's delicious. If not I say empanadas because you can cater the filling to individual tastes or even do multiple fillings.

I was thinking bacon wrapped yakitori, but obviously that's not going to work. But there are bacon substitutes made from turkey that might work.

This looks really interesting. I'm not sure how turkey bacon might be able to substitute, but quail eggs are actually quite cool. They have a unique flavor unlike chicken or duck eggs. Even if the turkey bacon doesn't curl perfectly (like on a bacon wrapped hot dog), it should hold in place with the skewers. Maybe just one or two per skewer to meet the bite size limit. But yakitori is similar to Korean BBQ.

I've seen fresh quail eggs at Asian markets and even some fresh poultry places, but mostly it's sold already hard boiled and canned in brine. If you have an Asian supermarket near you, they'll probably have it.
