hi folks

just a wee quick question on behalf of dd emma,

we've booked up for april 2011, and rather than carrying her passport everywhere she wants to know if her college student card would be okay as it has her photo and date of birth etc on it

sorry if ive posted this in the wrong place

I doubt it will be to be honest.

Last I went to the US in November 2008, I'd just turned 21, and had trouble getting places to accept my photocard driving licence so ended up carrying my passport around with me.

However, this year I'm planning to photocopy my passport instead as alot of people here seem to report this being accepted by most places :)

I found on my recent trip to California that either passport or provisional driving license (I don't have a full one) were fine and accepted everywhere I went.

The photo on my license is 8 years old and does not resemble me AT ALL, but they were still happy with it :thumbsup2

Myself and DBF used photocopied passports as our ID. The couple of times we were asked for ID they accepted them no problems.

Passports and/or drivers licenses will be accepted. College ID's aren't "official" enough. I am surprised that places to hear that places were accepting photocopies of the passports. My cousin bartends and he would be fired if he accepted a photocopy of the passport as proof of age.

We found the opposite in California. In Universal's CityWalk we were told in Hard Rock Cafe that they weren't allowed to accept anything less than a passport :confused3

Admittedly, after that we didn't try our driving licences again and just kept our passports on us. Found we got IDed less in Vegas than LA and so didn't need it as much. It was a bit of a nightmare and I was constantly checking my bag to make sure I had our passports!

I'm surprised that some places accepted photocopies too. I always carry my passport with me when I'm planning on drinking alcohol anyway (both at home and abroad- I always get asked for ID!).

I was always fine in LA with a college ID (but it was fon an american school) and fine in Las Vegas with a regular pink driving license.

We never got IDed in WDW, but I somehow assumed my KTTW would be enough as it had all our details. If not we just wouldn't have drunk.

You are very lucky to have booked already for April next year! How did you manage that? I can't find flights yet anywhere.

I think you would need to show a 'government issued' form of ID e.i. driving licence or passport.
Nobody questioned my driving licence last year.
