A 5 yo in Oceaneer's Club?

We'll be on the 4 day wonder in July - 2 weeks after my DD turns 5 - and I was wondering if they allow 5 yo in the OC? In looking over the activities, it seems like the OC is more "girly" with snow white and tinkerbell and ariel activities - she would LOVE that.

Didn't know how strict they were with the ages...

We just cruised in Feb '03 with our 3yr old DD and 5yr old DS. We asked the Oceaneer Club counselor who was checking-in our DD if our DS could join his sister in the 3-4 yr old group. The counselor responded no, and that DS would have to register for the 5-7 yr old group, and noted that the 5-7 yr old group would join the 3-4 yr old group at night during Movie Time. I was kinda surprised by the counselor's response, as I've read previously on this board that they're usually pretty accomodating about this. So, rather than argue with this particular counselor, I let her register my DS in the 5-7 yr old group, and then returned to the Oceaneer Club about 30 minutes later and asked a different counselor if it would be a problem to switch my DS from the 5-7 yr old group to the 3-4 yr old group, and was told that it would be no problem at all.

My DS really enjoyed participating with his sister in the activities and events of the 3-4 yr old group. IMO, the activities and events for the 5-7 yr old group did not seem age-appropriate for a recently turned 5 yr old.

Thanks - Her brother is 6 and she might enjoy being with him some of the time - but it seems like the younger activities would be more suited to her....it helps to know asking different counselors may yield different answers!

It depends on the child. My son turned 5 a few days after our Magic trip, and I had him in the 5-7 year old group with his 7 year old brother.

My almost 5 year old would have been bored to tears in the 3-4 age group, as they stay in the Club most of the time and don't move around the ship very much.

Even though he was in with his brother, they were never playing together when I picked them up.

Great question - I was wondering that too - it seems that the younger group has all the princess stuff, but then the 5-7 group is more action/boy-ish (toy story, etc). I have a kindergartener who will be 6 in May, but she'll be more into Princess stuff!

Yeah, I was wondering whether the pricess events in the 3-4 yo group would be girly too, but that was not the case at all, IMO. On our cruise, 2 of the events had Wendy Darling and Alice, and these events featured stories, games and interactive fun that the boys seemed to have enjoyed as much as the girls. They were among the highlights of the cruise for my kids.

Once you have moved your child, you will not be allowed to move them into another group. They are strict about bouncy back and forth no matter who you asked. Just to let you know.

But moving them back is not totally out of the picture...MY 10 yr old son was placed in the 8-9 because his brother was 9 and I thought he would have more fun...and his sister was 11 and I thought they might not get along....well after the 1 st day I kept looking up his activities and was looking under the 10 year old group....( his sister was sick for 3 out of 4 days and never participated in the clubs) on the 2 day he finally asked to be switched and they let him do it without me present....so, while they may not want it to be done ...doesn't mean they won't consider it...

When we went in October, my daughter was 6 years and 2 months. Her brother was 3 years so she staid with him in the 3-4 group. YES, she was MUCH bigger than all of the other kids but she loved all of the princesses, "trashing the camp" with Tarzan, story time with Alice etc.

My husband thought she might not like such "babyish" things but she had a blast. Because of his concern, I even gave her a choice and read to her the activities in each of the age groups. She said she thought the 3-4 group activities sounded like a lot more fun so it all depends on what kind of child you have as well
