A 1BR is the most expensive room type

Did they stop? I’m still hoping akv adds it during ongoing refurb. Have there been recent ones that didn’t add when they could have?
RIV has the 5th sleeper in the studios, but PIT and VDH (I believe) do not. Not sure about refurbs and whether any have added the 5th sleep in the studios. BLT is the most recent, and I don't believe studios there got the 5th sleeper added.

Personally, I think 1 BRs should have the 5th sleeper. Studios should not. That really is just too many people in one room. That said, I know Caribbean Beach has 5h sleepers in some of their standard hotel rooms with even less square footage than most deluxe studios.

They did not add them during SSR rehab nor did they add them to CCV.

They didn’t add to PVB tower or VDH either…I actually think we will see studios go back to 4 but the 1 bedrooms have 5 and hopefully, continue the 2 bathrooms that PVB tower got.

I am not expecting them to change AKV but you never know.

Stayed in BLT 1BR in November. It had 5th sleeper.

A 1BR is about twice the space as a studio, so why is it the ‘most expensive? 1 br to 2 br only adds 50% more space. We do 1br’s not only for kitchen and washer/dryer, but also for king versus queen bed. And in the case of AKV Jambo and BLT, a second bathroom.

They were referring to adding the fifth sleeper to a studio. BLT has always slept five in the one bedroom, but it used to have a sleeper chair and now with the refurbishment it has the flipped down twin under the TV in the living room instead.

Technically a 2bdrm costs more.?

Studio x 2 = 1 bdrm
1bdrm + studio = 2 bdrm
Christmas night at VGF resort view

Studio sleeps 5 = 32 points
1 bedroom sleeps 5 = 64
2 bedroom sleeps 9-10 = 87

It takes 23 more points to sleep an additional 4-5 people when going from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom.

It takes double the points to go from a studio to a 1 bedroom that sleeps the same number of people.

Yes you could certainly grab 2 studios to sleep the same or 1 more than a 2 bedroom for 23 points less but the experience is nowhere close in my book.

Our family of 4 did 7 nights in studios this past July. I think it will likely be our last unless it's a short trip or less than the whole family. And, I imagine we will eventually just go for the full 2 BR villas as our kids get older. I like having the option of studios, but I don't think we would ever have bought DVC if that's what we primarily planned to use our points for. Sure, the kitchenette is a slight upgrade from the beverage coolers in Disney's standard hotel rooms, but it's nothing like having a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and separate sleeping areas.

Trying to think of good comparison. This one sort of works

Disney's standard hotel room = budget car, base model
Disney's deluxe studio = budget car, upgraded trim level
Disney's 1 BR villa = luxury sedan

Although even that isn't the best comparison because, at the end of the day, all cars ultimately do the same thing whereas 1 BR villas give you increased functionality.
Maybe flying is the best analogy?
Disney's standard hotel room = budget flight, extra fee for luggage etc
Disney's deluxe studio = budget car, free bags
Disney's 1 BR villa = first class

If we kept going idk what 2 br would be? A grand villa would be a private jet 😂

King bed + 6'5" DH = 1 bedroom for the win. I also get up much earlier than hubs and it's nice to have a place to make coffee and not wake him up. And do laundry if I only pack a carry on.

We're doing a big family trip in Jan with the adult kids and I'm already regretting only booking a 2bd (at RR). Our next upgrade will be GVs for family trips (on top of 1bds for couples trips lol).

How about Gran Villa being Etihad the residence and 2 bedroom etihad apartment? :)

All studios should be 5. All one bedrooms should be 5. Lockoffs 10. Each resort category should be that consistent. No more (BCV example) Dedicated two bedroom is 8. But Lockoff 9.

Families are far from the cookie cutter parents & two children, picket white fence days.

My brother’s family WDW vacations were parents, 3 children. Not DVC. It was always alligator bayou of Port Orleans Riverside (Dixie Landings). Resort has the hotel room 5’s!

On the points side, one bedrooms are the higher premium for occupancy count overall. Always will be. It’s all about the amenities of home included. It gets you to then just go ahead and upgrade to a two bedroom . It has a better point deal per occupancy count.

Long story short..studios across the board & one bedrooms should each hold 5. We are DVC…we deserve that consistency of room size occupancy.

Guessing you mean point per max occupancy or something. If you want to separate with a door then it is least expensive.

The recent refurbs that didn’t add were blt, ssr, and okw. My undesrsnding is blt is too small for the 5th sleeping surface. Okw is big enough but with the 2 real beds don’t think fits. Ssr is the one I think could argue had opportunity to add but didn’t so could be the new trend.

That said I’m hoping akv adds to the standard size rooms; all that was said was would add where they fit. Akv is bigger then the previous studios that added and would give more justification for point difference between them and the value rooms. To me the real reason they wouldn’t is I don’t think they want rooms that can truly sleep 10; others they previously added to kept 4 in the 1br.

Well, they seem to have gone the other direction…..

Me too. I've been known to stay in one solo. I did not get into timesharing to stay in a glorified hotel room.
In fairness, I will sometimes book a studio, but only for (a) a long weekend with (b) one or two people.

Before I bought my own points, I had a long run of using non-DVC timeshares to exchnage in to Villas, so I'd never done WDW in a studio/hotel room. My first purchase was a fixed week in a RIV studio. I thought maybe I could manage to pull that off for my usual week-long late winter/early spring trip.

It did not take me more than one night to realize that I was going to be flat out resentful at drinking coffee out something other than an actual mug each morning. And yes, I could put one in my OL, but that is NOT THE POINT.
