A 1BR is the most expensive room type

Based on dozens of board posts, articles, and YT videos I have seen, nothing has separated Disney fans from their money more than making the mistake of staying in a 1BR. It's the same thing every time - "I can't go back to a studio!"

Anyways, I'm just waiting to see the new round of incentives come out tomorrow. We are ready to buy 150 points direct to start, and I honestly hope we never get offered a free upgrade

I certainly wouldn’t call it a mistake. We still stay in studios every once in awhile but we certainly prefer to make ourselves at home in a one bedroom. We are able to enjoy things more when we are not on top of each other plus we need space for my drying rack :)

Yep. 1 bed is so much better than a studio. And the point spread from studio to 1 bed is huge. The spread from 1 bed to 2 bed is much smaller but can’t justify a 2 bed for 2 adults and a kid so I’m stuck coughing up 1 bed points.
I hate to say that we have a BW GV for our 2 adult 2 kid family on our upcoming trip because we really wanted a BW view, 3 bathrooms, and the full dining/living room…. My wife’s a little jealous that each kid will have their own bedroom and bathroom and she’s stuck sharing with me! 🤣

Our family of 4 did 7 nights in studios this past July. I think it will likely be our last unless it's a short trip or less than the whole family. And, I imagine we will eventually just go for the full 2 BR villas as our kids get older. I like having the option of studios, but I don't think we would ever have bought DVC if that's what we primarily planned to use our points for. Sure, the kitchenette is a slight upgrade from the beverage coolers in Disney's standard hotel rooms, but it's nothing like having a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and separate sleeping areas.

Trying to think of good comparison. This one sort of works

Disney's standard hotel room = budget car, base model
Disney's deluxe studio = budget car, upgraded trim level
Disney's 1 BR villa = luxury sedan

Although even that isn't the best comparison because, at the end of the day, all cars ultimately do the same thing whereas 1 BR villas give you increased functionality.

This is not exactly breaking news...

DVC and Disney Hotels in general are a terrible use of money. Yes, studios are the best deal... but the All Stars ( to say nothing of many off-property options) are an even better "deal"... Look at cash rates at Vistana for example!

1 BR compare the least desirably to cash rates. But my same VGF trip would cost me about 80-100 more points in a 2 BR... that I don't really need. How does that make any sense to spend the money on something I don't need and wouldn't impact my trip positively?

On the other hand, 2 studios are a better "deal" with my VGF points than the 1 BR, but I would much rather stay in the 1 BR with the kitchen, W/D, etc. than 2 studios...

1 BR units make me happy and most economically meet my current needs and my desire to stay on property within walking distance of 1 or 2 parks... Using my points is still more economical to stay in them at VGF than paying cash. So I will continue to do so.

Now, if I am there for one night, maybe 2, we will squeeze into the studio. But I am not doing a studio for 6 or 7 or 8 or 9 nights.

I’ve only stayed in studios and 2 bedrooms. I find the cost per night for the 1 bedroom tough to swallow, but I think it would be great when we travel as a full family of four and my preteen and second kid can have their own space and bathroom (ideally) away from mom and dad. I really think they will appreciate that. The 2 bedroom is NICE. Going back to studios after that was hard.

Now that I’ve gone DVC, the idea of a normal hotel room breaks me out in hives. I only want to stay in timeshares or studios with more separate sleeping spaces like DVC now.

The additional wear and tear of people cramming 5 people into a studio is likely why they STOPPED adding the under TV fold down bed in new studios.
Did they stop? I’m still hoping akv adds it during ongoing refurb. Have there been recent ones that didn’t add when they could have?
