I have a close friend who is planning a surprise for his wifes birthday at WDW. He has come to me for advice.
This seemed like a pretty good idea at the time to both of us, right up until he asked me his very first question. I am such a big help, I cant even answer the first question.
But I have 70,000 close friends.
So, I need your help, and with my track record in helping him out so far, I will need your help again later. This will be just between us though, let him think I am brilliant Disney planner and not a grasshopper-fearing dingle-ling.
Now the question is would she like a spa treatment as part of her surprise?
My initial reaction to this question was complete horror. According to this reaction, I am going to have to assume that a spa treatment is NOT something I would like at all.
But that is me and my reasons for not liking the idea of a spa treatment are simple.
First, my kids arent as young as theirs and I wouldnt want to go do something by myself. I havent seen my son in a year, so where ever he is, I will be, with the exception of the bathroom.
Ill be waiting just outside the door.
However, their kids havent hit double digits in age yet, so maybe she would enjoy the break. When my kids were under the age of 10, if someone had asked me if I wanted to fly to Florida strapped to the wing of the plane with bungee cords, I would have jumped at the chance at some alone time.
Hang on; is it possible that bungee jumping was thought up by a mother of kids under the age of 10 that was looking for a few seconds of personal time? I bet Im on to something with that.
So, if you are a parent of younger kids, would you like to bungee jump from the wing of a plane, or would you prefer a spa treatment?
Another reason I have for not being able to answer this question is that I have never had a spa treatment. From what I have seen on T.V, it seems to involve a certain amount of disrobing. Had someone done this to me on our last trip, depending on the day, there is a possibility of the spa treatment person seeing me in soggy man panties.
They are probably not paid enough for that.
The closest I came to any kind of a treatment was the one and only manicure I ever had. The girl drove wooden sticks into my cuticles and my fingers throbbed the rest of the day. She really only hurt a couple of my fingers, the rest of my fingers suffered sympathy pains. I found it to be unpleasant.
Then, of course is the touching part of a spa treatment. I have issues with skin-to-skin contact as it is, I cant imagine paying someone to do it. Maybe its a different experience when the person doing the touching isnt all clammy, sticky and sweaty.
Maybe his wife has gotten used to being touched by little people with peanut butter on their fingers. Maybe being touched by adults that smell like flowers would be a welcomed change.
So my friends, what do you think? If your husband was planning a surprise for you, how would you feel about a spa treatment?

You asked:
How long will they have at WDW? If it's going to be rushed, then it may not be worth it.
He said:
You asked:
Have the kids been to WDW before? If no, then she may not want to miss a moment
He said "Yes, several times."
You asked:
How long would she have to travel to ge to the treatment?
He said "Not far."
I couldn't directly quote him without giving too much away.
Thanks again for your help! LY/MI!!

I was planning on a gift certificate, so she could choose her treatment. Cost right now is not a problem. I just have to plan for it. I'm thinking she wouldn't go for the touchy-feely massage thing (Well, maybe the "tired legs" version), but would do a ped-/man-icure, or a facial.

We're going to be there for 7+ days, so no worries there. I was thinking about 1/2way through the trip, so day 3 or 4, I'd take the kids to blank or blank while she went to the Spa.
