9th grade Pre AP Biology Science Fair Project--Need ideas ASAP!

Not here. Honestly, it seems to vary from school to school. Here, Pre AP Biology is the hardest class you can take as a freshman. It's that or regular Bio. There is no AP Biology. Next year, she will take Chemistry and I think that jumps to as high as AP.

The way it seems to work is that 9th and most 10th grade classes can take regular level or Pre AP. Once you hit 11th grade, you can take AP, take a test and get college credit if you get a high enough score. Pre AP and AP courses get one extra grade point. So an A in regular Bio is the same as a B in Pre AP.
.

You would think with the whole "common core" crap that it would be the same from school to school but here you take pre-ap in 8th grade and then in 9th grade my daughter took AP Bio and AP World- this year she is in 10th and in AP Chem, AP Statistics, AP World (its a 2 year course) and AP art history. If the kid doesn't get into AP Bio in 9th then they can finish off 3 years of science and take the AP Bio as a 12th grader. So looking at a $350+ AP test bill this year!

Why on earth should I have to do a science fair project? :confused3 I took high school biology and college biology years ago, so my work is done. True, I didn't have to do a project then, but it wasn't required.

She chose to take Pre AP Bio knowing there was a science project. She could have always taken the on level version. She selected a project yesterday, turned in the idea and it was approved. Only one of us needs to do this project, and it's not going to be me. Sorry to disappoint you.....You can always do one if it makes you feel better.

ETA: Thanks to the poster who suggested flowers and the effect magnets have on them. She didn't use that idea, but it made her think about various projects she could do with plants and she wound up going with one of those.

It was a typo. Let her do her own project, including finding the topic. That's what learning is all about.

I guess that makes more sense. LOL! I thought you were making a point about me not being required to do a science project in high school. They just weren't done that much when I was in h.s. I got off easy.

I'm not about to do the project. I didn't last year. Of course, she dodged a major bullet last year. :lmao: I'm not counting on that happening again.

aprilgail2...There really doesn't seem to be much consistency. Some schools have "honors." Some have Pre AP/AP. Some have both. It's like calling something a deluxe hotel. Not all deluxe hotels are created equal. Some schools have a 4.0 scale with advanced classes getting a 5.0. Some have 5.0 as a base with advanced courses getting 6.0...no 4.0 scale at all. :confused3

So far, we have had no bills for Pre AP courses, although drill team is eating our lunch financially. The yearly fee was bad enough, but the out of state trip looks like it will cost more than actually being on the team. I was fortunate enough to attend a school that paid for everything. Your sports and band uniforms, band instruments, cheer uniforms, all entry fees, you name it. Which was nice, because the poorest kid in town could be in any activity they wanted and the lack of money would not stand in the way. Those days are gone in Texas, and probably most places.

Don't know if this is too simplistic but when I judged a Science fair, the winning project was about which product removed blood stains best. The student said it was hydrogen peroxide because it works on blood proteins.
