I called the resort and asked the CM if they check the ID of the person using the So Cal hopper. He said "NO" Do you think this is true or up for grabs? My sister lives well within the zip codes authorized to use them so my friend Lisa CAN purchace them. I have heard sometimes the gate CMs ask for ID which would be a problem because sis is not coming with us. I have an AP. Is it worth the risk? I think it is for that price but just don't want to have my friend embarassed.

any inside info (or best guesses)
thanks

This is often discussed. What I have always heard and been told over the last few years that Disney has offered the So. Calif. resident specials is this: the tickets say (on the back) that they are for So. Cal. residents and I think they say you must reside within the So Cal zip codes. BUT, I have always heard and have called Disney myself and they ALWAYS say you must be a So Cal resident to buy the tickets but you can share them with family and friends from out of the area.

I know many people who have bought them and given them to people outside the area and they never had a problem. If a CM were to ask for id at the gate, you would want to tell them that your family member who lives nearby purchased the tickets and was told she could share them with you.

I would like to know about this, too. I'm going to visit my brother who conveniently lives near DL :) . I wouldn't want to risk having him get the tickets though and not being able to use them. He is NOT going--he's sick, sick, sick of Disneyland, he says. We're going to DL just in the mornings till it gets too crowded, then doing family things, so I would like to not spend too much on the tickets.

If you are over 17, you have to be a California resident to purchase or use them.

If you are under 17, you have to be a California resident to purchase, but not to use.

One person can buy up to 8 with one ID, but nonetheless, everybody that uses them must be a California resident.

They do not, however, check ID at the turnstiles when it is busy - it would create huge inefficiences. They do often check ID at the turnstiles when its not busy (i.e. after 12PM).

If you get caught, you will be able to apply the value towards a regularly priced ticket.

I think that Disney is inconsistent with how they respond to people asking about the So. Cal Hoppers and that is why there are inconsistencies in this thread about how they can be used.

Last month I e-mailed ticketing to ask them about this, as my sister offered to buy our tickets before we went.

After a day of waiting for a reply, I got impatient and called ticketing. The CM on the phone told me that if we are asked to show ID and are not a So. Cal resident, the CM at the turnstyle will have to confiscate our ticket without refund. She said the only option would be for my sister to meet us at the turnstyles to show her ID there. San Diego is an hour away, and my sister did not like that idea!

A day later I got a e-mail back from ticketing who said it would be no problem using them as long as it was a So. Cal resident who bought the tickets. I printed out the e-ticketing receipt with my sister's San Diego address just in case they asked (but they didn't).

Again, it seems like it comes down to the CM you are talking to. I felt comfortable using the tickets after printing out my e-mail and confirmation. I recommend doing the same, just to be sure that the CM at the gate won't confiscate your tickets.

I was in line to get my AP in January when I noticed this lady havng a huge blowout w/ a cm over Aps they had bought. Apparantly, someone bought them for them but they weren't with them. They wouldn't allow them to activate the APs. They said they would allow them to upgrade. And they wouldn't give them a refund either. I wouldn't risk it. They argued the whole time I was in line and were still there after. (And the lines were long!) No higher ups would intervene. Pay what you need to pay and do it right. It's not worth it to save a few bucks.

ETA: Oops sorry I thought you were talking about the So Cal APs, not the hopper. Never mind. A friend had another friend who lives in So Cal purchase their hopper tickets and they got in fine.

These So Cal resident tickets have been sold for years now and I have NEVER heard of anyone being asked for id at the turnstyles. I have called many times and always received the same answer, "you only show id when you purchase them".

I don't see it as a risk at all.

I see it all the time on my very frequent visits. When the turnstiles are not busy later in the afternoon, the CM's actively check since it won't back-up lines.

What is frustrating with this answer, (not that I don't believe you I do) is when I called and asked if I would be required to show proof of address the guy said NO. Where does it state that one must produce ID, or at the very least one must have the zip code person with you?

I believe it says on the back of the ticket that you must reside within certain zip codes. It does not say you will be checked for id at the turnstyles anywhere on the tickets.

My guess, Disney does not mind a local to buy tickets and share them with friends/family. They do not want locals to buy them then sell them on ebay to those who are not local. If you go to ebay you will probably see people selling them. I know they did last summer.

If you are ever questioned, you tell them your relative bought them but he/she is not joining you that day, and you called Disney and were told you were fine to use the tickets. There will be no problem.

I was told by a CM that a resident from So Cal can buy it for me as a gift to take advantage of the $99 deal.

This must be why there is a limit of 8. If they had to be used by the So Cal resident, you'd think it would be a limit of one per person. It looks to me like they want to encourage people to get their visiting families to spend a few days at DL if they're going to be visiting relatives.

I just got off the phone with someone in Guest Services and got a definate answer.

You must show ID to purchase them but you DO NOT have to show ID to come and go at the park. AND if they give you any LIP tell them you spoke to (Mary Smith not her real name ) IN guest services and they said no ID required to come and go. So I will get the ticket for my friend and stand my ground if hassled in anyway.

Ok, first of all, a So Cal resident must purchase the AP. Its easy to get through the gate but you have to remember that you need to process the AP and get a card and photo. You will be required to show ID again especially if you are an adult.

As for a park hopper, they usually do check for an ID but if they gate is backed up, they might not. I wouldn't risk it though nor start a confrontation with any gate CMs.

Ok first of all I am NOT attempting to purchase a So Cal AP I HAVE a deluxe AP I just got last week doing the Costco thing. My friend Lisa is not attempting to purchase an AP at all. We are only talking about the $99 So Cal resident parkhopper. My sister lives in Los Angeles in the 90041 zip code. I am agonizing over getting bugged by the gate police if they nag her to show ID to get in. According to Guest Services as long as they are purchased by a So Cal resident (which they will be) it is NOT a problem coming and going. :dance3:

How does one prove that the ticket was purchased by a So Ca resident? It is my understanding that anyone can purchase the two for tickets. For i.d. is not asked for by the check out clerks.

It is clear and light as day that the ticket can only be used by a SoCal or Baja California resident in the zip codes. I can't believe cast members are giving out blatantly false information.

Again, I see people turned away all the time. It's almost a common occurence if one walks through the gates between 1PM and 4PM. You'll see somebody arguing with a CM.

Hopefully Disney reminds CM's what the rules are.

How can it be clear? These aren't even available yet, and from several people's reports, they've been told that they can be purchased for friends and family. :confused3

These tickets are sold every summer, although this year, for the first time, they are being sold at Disneyland instead of just local supermarkets.

The ticket rules, state, clearly:

Summer Fun Pass is a 3-Day Park Hopper® Ticket valid for Southern California residents within ZIP codes 90000-93599 and Northern Baja California residents within ZIP codes 21000-22999. Proof of residency required for admission.

It does not say "proof of residency required for purchase."

Hopefully Cast Members will be cleared up on the rules, because they are giving out false information.
