Good idea, although I'd think states have guidelines about what temps the homes HAVE to keep the facilities at, it would be a good idea to make sure they actually follow those guidelines!

You may want to check on seniors in their own homes, too, and make sure that they set their own thermostats high enough to keep warm. Many may lower them too low for fear of bills they can't pay for.

I agree about checking in on them, regardless of their housing situation.

I know my GP were stubborn about turning on the heat or AC when they really needed it.

Remember what someone posted in an earlier "what to give for Christmas" thread? The idea about helping pay for a loved one's heating bill this winter could really be wonderful thing.

I work in an Assisted Living and our temp is always around 74-75. I will have to keep an eye out to see if they lower it.

Nursing facilities are actually mostly federally regulated, while assisted living is state regulated. Either way, though, there are standards for the safety and quality of care in the facilities. The more vulnerable individuals are actually those living at home, whether receiving in home care services or not.
