Too bad you didnt have a friend who could use the room so you could spread the pixie dust. These things can get complicated though.

what a great idea!

I've seen this mentioned a few times, that Disney will cancel a reservation if a room is goin unused, I really doubt it, why on earth would they care? They have your money already.

Deluxe rack rates are hideously over-priced though.

I'm not sure whether Disney does it but once they've cancelled the person's reservations who booked the room originally they would be able to book it up again and make more money. Just a guess- but I am sure they are aware of people doing this :)

OP-I am still a little confused. You book the disney hotels just so you can get deluxe dining? I am assuming it's during free dining? Wouldn't it be cheaper to just rent off site and just eat at the signature restaurants and pay out of pocket? I am just not sure that paying for the hotel room with an upgraded meal plan would be worth it.

I also agree that deluxe resorts are waaaayyy overpriced but obviously people are willing to pay the prices they charge.

Have a great vacation OP.

I hear you now, as for you not liking text speak, don't read any of my posts this way u won't have to get annoyed by me, okay? Sorry I assumed u were typing to me. P.s. I'm on my IPad, that is why I am text speaking. If I were typing, I would not, I the like the wind except on the IPad. I see ur points! I loved the poly view too but just won't pay that any more, poly needs a make over big time!!! GF can use some updating too!

I'm confused.
Does the $7,300 just cover the 3 bedroom house, or does it also cover the AS room, the campsite room, the park tickets and the deluxe dining plan for 5 people? I'm just having a hard time seeing how all that adds up....
If the $7,300 is just the house (which I doubt, because I know you can get great deals on off site homes), then what's the total when you add in all the dining, as room, campsite and park tickets?

In my experience it depends on what you eat. If you look at OP she mentioned that she checked menues. If she did what I did then she knew how her family ate and looked at the prices on those menues to create a budget. When we had DDP we told kids start with the most expensive thing and work your way down:cool1: instead of keep it around $. My family, especially DS is very adventurous so we saved ALOT compaired to what the plan cost us. If that is how your family normally eats and its all adults I can see where it could get really expensive. The days we went off DDP dinners averaged $150 and two of our kids were still disney kid priced although DS would add alacart to his meal or share some of ours for variety. Just dinners alone for 13 days would be 2000 without tips. Then add lunch and snack which we always maxed out by keeping a link to the snack thread on our phone and its expensive! Disney counts on families doing what they always do. Most familys eat high some nights and low others many live on burgers and pizza no matter what. Ours looks at vacation as our chance to eat expensive and we really make out with the DDP and that was when we paid full price with the DDP and discount on our room. I can see a day with 5 adults where it may be cheaper to pay 500 rack rate for a room then pay full rate for meals. If you need more than one room forget about it you gotta get creative.

We saw these kind of things on the cruise too. It was cheaper to rent a room for a night at atlantis and get all the hotel perks than to go on the DCL excusion.

I believe the $7300 covers the AS room, the campsite and the off-site home.

Sounds like the OP booked the room and campsite at Disney to get the free dining and the other fishing excursions, etc. and will not be staying there, but in the house off site.

:confused3 Why didn't you just book the Campsite to get the amenities you wanted Dining and Fishing; Why the All Star Sports too? We like the value resorts b/c we do the parks from AM to PM. No pools, etc....We only stay 3 or 4 days. That is just us, we love the parks not the hotels....Well have fun at your rental house and fishing trip!

Typing on an iPad or iPhone can suck..I hate auto- correct because it always throws in words that aren't even close to what I wanted to type. :rotfl2:
But it's still no excuse to use text-speak. The keyboard is large enough to type complete words. Heck, even most 'plain' phones come with complete keyboards now. There are only a couple of explanations for typing in text-speak, but the Moderators have asked us to be nice ;)

I agree!! you paid for your freakin vacation pkg! why would disney care if youre not using your room?
Especially during a popular promotion like the Dining Plan Free, Disney cares because someone who wants to stay onsite and will spend their discretionary funds (extra food, adult beverages, souvenirs) at WDW now can't - because someone not using the room reserved it. And the guest themselves, the one who's wanted to stay at All Star Sports? Nope, no room at the inn.

I'm sorry, but this really bothers me. For some people, the only way they can afford disney is a value resort or a campsite. I think it's rude to book a spot or room you won't even use.

Yes, I guess technically disney allows it. Whatever. I don't think I could do something like that with good conscience, knowing somehow there's a family out there that couldn't get a room because I'm abusing the system.

I'm sure I'll get jumped on for even saying this, but I doubt I'm the only one thinking it.

No free dining at the campground.

The more I think about this it's not that bad of an idea if you really want dining plan (Deluxe can save a LOT of money if you want it to). I don't have any issues they aren't using the room. They could always shove a suitcase in there I guess if they really wanted too I guess.

are you kidding me? Im sorry, but is it against disboard policy to text-speak? Is the OP breaking any rules by using it? I dont think so. Anyone who is offended by it can simply click on another thread. Its amusing that this is even an issue.

But again, the vacation and room is paid for. Disney wont go to great lengths to investigate whether or not the room has been used in the week. If the OP doesnt have a problem with it, then theres not a thing anyone can do about it to be honest. I see your point but I dont think what the OP is doing is terrible. Thats just me.

No one said it was against Disboard rules to use text speak. However, if you wish people to read your posts and respond, then it is wise to post in such a way that people can easily read and understand your posts. To do otherwise (e.g. use text speak, fail to use correct punctuation, etc.) is to invite people to make assumptions about your intelligence or level of education that might not be accurate.

But in regards to the issue of having an on-site reservation and be staying off-site, it is within Disney's purview to cancel a reservation if it is apparent no one is staying in the room. They would generally try to contact the party before doing so. Disney is particularly sensitive to this when people are using promotions such as the free dining.

Also, it is considered rude to take up a room and/or a campsite when someone has no intention of staying there. That prevents someone who would like to stay there from being able to get a reservation. People doing this is the reason why the free dining promotion is not available at the campsites.

I totally agree with you. For me, it falls into the category of "just b/c you can, doesn't mean you should."

No, I didnt say that. I said two different things in consecutive sentences. First I said it's not necessary to type in text-speak when using an iPad, especially given the size of the keyboard. Then, after and separate from that I said I wasn't going to comment any further on the issue because the Moderators asked us to be nice.

The individuals who have no problem with text-speak will gladly read the post and offer suggestions and opinions. The individuals who dont like it dont have to post. its quite simple.

As for disney policy re unoccupied rooms.....if they attempt to contact the OP before cancelling the vacation then there shouldnt be a problem. OP has done this before (last yr i think) and it hasnt been an issue. Whether or not you and i think its morally wrong or against the rules is besides the point. The OP will do what she thinks is best. There's nothing we can say to change that.

I think I'm with you on this one. There was a similar thread last year about someone else who pulled something like this. Didn't like it then, don't like it now. Definitely not something I would want to boast to the world about.

Btw on an internet site why would anyone, such as the OP, care what other posters think about her?? how or why is that important on disboards? To assume someone isnt intelligent because they use text speak is quite disturbing to me. Just wow.
