My daughter turns 9 in two weeks. We are having what started as an indoor luau and is now a flip flop themed party. I have cute boxes to decorate and powdered sand candy, but I was looking for a few games to play with them. There should be a total of 8 girls. Besides the limbo and pass the coconut, does anyone have some fun games that don't require a lot of space for running around. BTW, we live in the Northeast so outdoors is out of the question.

Any ideas for fun finger foods too? I was going to do fruit skewers and frozen drinks, but I need some help with lunch foods. No milk or nuts because of allergies :flower:

TIA

you could make a big punch bowl of blue jello and put sweedish fish in it. You could serve lemonade, smoothies, and other tropical drinks. Fruit salad, popcicles, shrimp, You could serve the food in beach pails, beach hats, frisbees, and big tropical leaves. You could also make the food table look like a tiki bar.
Guests could decorate flip flops with fake flowers, rhinestones, ribbon, etc. or they could decorate sunglasses or beach bags. You could have a scavenger hunt to find the goody bags.
Decorate with lots of beach balls, sea shells, towels, beach chairs, beach umbrellas, lanterns, etc.
You could fill a kiddie pool with sand and have a sand castle building contest. Another fun activity might be a hula hoop contest.

I'm a big party planner

I dont have a game at the moment but if you give me time I can think of some but when I was ready your post what popped into my head was what if you bought seashells and had them decorate them with glitter, foam shapes rhinestones etc. when my son and I go to the beach we collect seashells and decorate them or make something with sea shells. flip flops remind me of the beach.

I just found these

CAKE:

Sand Cake

Be sure to pile this cake into a beach bucket and serve with a plastic
shovel!

This project is rated VERY EASY to do.

What You Need

2 Packages (3.5 to 4 oz. each) vanilla-flavored instant pudding
4 cups milk
1 container (8 oz.) nondairy whipped topping
1 box (10 1/2 oz.) miniature chocolate-chip cookies
2 cups vanilla-wafer cookie crumbs, divided
Shell and or pebble shaped candies

How To Make It

Prepare pudding using the 4 cups milk, according to package directions.
Using rubber scraper, fold in the whipped topping, then fold in chocolate
chip cookies.

Spoon half of the pudding mixture into a clean (preferably new) 2 1/2 quart
plastic beach bucket. Sprinkle with half of the vanilla cookie crumbs.
Repeat layers. Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours to soften cookies.
Decorate with candy shells and pebble candies. Refrigerate until ready to
serve.

When placing on table put sand, sea shells, and plastic fish around the
bottom of bucket for a cool centerpiece.

For food you could do teriyaki chicken skewers. Those are easy to prepare and make and good finger food. Those would go well with the fruit skewers, too. Hot dogs are always popular, or pigs in blankets.

If you go to Familyfun.com and look around, they have great party ideas.

Thanks for the suggestions, I bought blue jello and sent my daughter searching for hula hoops. I just donated all of our beach toys (thought the kids were getting to big for it), but I do have a few buckets and such left to decorate with compliments of our last Disney cruise.

If anyone has any more suggestions please post, we're always looking for new ideas !

DD had her luau birthday in October (she also turn 9). We received a lot of compliments. DD's friends didn't want to leave... the party ending up being over four hours long. Here are some of the highlights:

1. Welcome: DD welcome her friends. She handed each guest a lei and asked them to sign her hula bear (we bought from Oriental Trading Co.).
2. Toss the coconuts: DH made a stand with three bars out of PVC pipes. The girls had to toss two coconuts on a rope at one of the bars.
4. Arts and Crafts: The girls then made their own hula bracelets. I also bought the kit from Oriental Trading Co.
5. Hawaiian Dance: We hired a Polynesian dancer (an acquaintance to one of my coworkers) to give the girls a 45 minutes Hawaiian/Polynesian dance lesson. The lesson ended up being over an hours. One of the songs she showed the girls was the theme song from Lilo & Sitch. At the end of the session, the lady interpreted each of the girls name in Hawaiian.
6. Limbo contest: I made two palm tree stands out of painted Styrofoam cups. It sound really tacky but they turned out really good.
7. Tacky Tourist Relay: We live in Florida so there were plenty of places to buy stuff of the game. Items we used are T-shirts, long shorts, big straw hats, out dated sunglasses, knee highs, big straw purses and terry cloth flip flops. :rotfl2:
8. Coconut Broom Relay.
9. Piñata (also bought from Oriental Trading Co.).

My mom was a huge help with the food department. She made 100 homemade spring rolls (we end up with only 8 left after the party). She also made homemade fried plantains. We also had Fried rice, shredded pork and various fruit.

Good luck with the party.
