Can someone help suggest what I should buy for a 9 year old boy birthday - a brother of a friend of my 7 year old daughter ? I am trying to keep it under $20.00. He has some expensive toys in his room already -a 22 inch flat screen HD tv and a wii in his bedroom.

All things LEgo and Nerf are the cool toys for my son and his group of friends.

Lego is the way to go!

Also, if you're near a Target, now they have the gift cards out that come with a little lego Target dog to build. You could put $20 on that and he could pick out his lego set.

This is what my oldest (9) just got from his friends for his bday:

Game stop gift cards
board games, star wars trouble, lego board game (not sure what its called but he really likes it)
Nerf toys
Remote control truck
Teck deck

Remember to give gift receipt. it was actually funny, he got 2 of the star wars trouble, one w/receipt, one w/out. as he was opening the 2nd one the one who gave him the receipt commented, "that's ok, I gave you the gift receipt so you can go and change it for something else"

I concur, anything lego.

The big "go to" gift when my ds turned 9 this past spring was iTunes gift cards and anything lego. Target gift cards are also always welcome.

Nerf..anything Nerf. They will play with them for years.:thumbsup2

I agree-all of the boy cousins bring their Nerf guns for Christmas and spend a lot of time shooting each other :lmao:. They range in age from 18 down to 3 with a lot in the 9,10,11 age.

nerf, lego, soft tip dart board (target has these for around $20 I think, I got my nephew and my son each one last year and they were huge hits!), or board games.

My son just got Beyblades, which are dueling tops. Also, Hotwheels RC (radio conrolled) was pretty neat.

My DS just turned 9.
Lego, Nerf, Beyblades, the new TRON Legacy toys, those are among his favorite things.

How about a Marshmallow Shooter? A couple of years ago I bought them for my nephew and my cousin (another boy closeto the same age as my nephew). I gave them the shooters and several bags of mini marshmallows each and they had a blast with them in the yard.

If you don't like that, then Legos or something Nerf is definitely a good gift for a boy that age.

Legos definitely.

There is always the gift card route - maybe find out his interests and get a GC specific to a place to buy things he enjoys (Lego store, Best Buy, etc.)

I can't believe Beyblades have made a comeback. I saw a little boy at Target a couple weeks ago buying the arena with his obviously saved money. If felt like telling him he should return it and I would gladly give him the one in our basement collecting dust :lmao:.

my 9yo ds did the lego thing - I wish he still loved them, but really doesn't.

he also has had EVERY type of nerf gun ever made - he still likes them (the few we still have around) and plays when other boys are over.

he likes some of the 'spy' stuff (spy gear?). Some of it is for younger, but some is ok for 9yo's. He likes any type of locking box, cool flashlights (like a tool type flashlight), swiss army knife type things, etc.

I have a son who is turning 8 on Saturday, but he has a nine year old friend. I'd agree with Legos or Nerf, but also, those little nano bug things are a huge hit here. Even my 17 year old likes them.
