9/28/13. Disney Wonder 7 night Bahamian out of Galveston.

The included gratuity covers your room steward and MDR serving team. It's considered customary to tip the room service staff separately.

You don't need cash, though my understanding is that its preferred You can add a tip to the slip they'll have you sign at delivery. That will get billed to your room.

Hi y'all! We're coming along with y'all to the Bahamas!!! This will be my 30th birthday trip! Me, DH, and DD (almost 5 at cruise time!) This is our 2nd Disney cruise. We cruised on the Magic out of Galveston in January. We are looking forward to a calm and easy embarkation, because our cruise was delayed by hours due to fog! Hoping for easier day of it this time! Despite that, our cruise was Ah-mazing! We are hooked 100%!! I have just started planning things, and realized I hadn't joined the group!! Can't wait to meet new friends!:cool1:

Ok got it thank you guys for the info :)

Thank you... What if we included the gratuity pre paid already does that count or should we still give something cash for room service?

You should still plan on giving a small tip for room service. Your prepaid gratuities are just those for your dining room service team and your stateroom attendant. The person bringing you room service won't be one of these people.

I'm not 100% sure how Disney's staffing works, as I haven't looked closely at it. On other lines the room service delivery job is often picked up as a "side job" in spare time to earn more money to send home. The job pays little to nothing, so they are working solely for the tips.

Can anyone tell me if there is a curfew on the adult or family pools... Can we do night swimming?

Know your topics already been answered, but thought I'd let you know what many do. We (and a lot of other Dis'ers) last cruise, just made sure we had quite a few $1. bills. They are great for tipping for a Mickey Bar, tipping for room service, tipping for extras, and having on hand for cabs/taxi's/ etc. And by the end of the week, with our already figured tips, we used more $ to add to our servers tips. It was even a joke among us..."Who's got a dollar?" :goodvibes

:welcome:And what a GREAT birthday present! It's our 2nd cruise also...and ours wasn't delayed, but had 18ft swells, they closed the port after we left, we felt like we were on the ark for 2 days...but what a WONDERFUL ark to be on! :goodvibes:

Can't wait!

I've looked at quite a few past Navigators, and the operating hours seem to vary a bit, probably based on cleaning and maintenance schedules. Generally it seems the Mickey Pool is open until 10 pm and the Goofy Pool 10-11 pm with an occasional midnight closing too On pirate night, the Goofy Pool closes at 7 pm. The Quiet Cove pool seems to be open until midnight pretty much every night. The splash area for toddlers seems to be regularly close at 8 pm.

Guys, let me know your thoughts on the FE sign up deadline. I was browsing other cruise threads and it appears many are closing 2 months in advance, some even more.

Do we want to close our list sooner? It sounds like some of you are making very personalized and/or crafty (time consuming?) gifts. I could understand one month not being enough time. I know some of my FE supplies aren't easy to get locally, not sure about others.

ETA-I'm also considering closing the list when we get to 30 cabins. After that, a second group could form and you would have the option of joining the second group in addition to the first if you'd like to exchange with more cabins. I'd manage that one too, if nobody steps up, but keep it separate from the original list. We are at 24 cabins right now.

:thumbsup2 Think you've got some very valid ideas! Thanks for heading all that up!

Glad I could help. Galveston.com really is a great resource for hotels and cruise parking. I always check there first since it is sort of "one stop shopping." You might be able to get a better price on the discount sites for the chain hotels, though.

Was able to get $130 room for $95. Not a bad deal. I do a lot of traveling in my job, and our company offers an employee discount with some of those chain hotels. Parking set hotel set and the countdown continues. Pre cruise list is printed and we've started gathering things for the cruise.

Hello I'm new to the forum. Just booked yesterday and so excited. My husband and our 7yr old princess will be on this cruise. Hoping to meet other travelers with a child around her age....?? She's an only child and would love to meet a few new friends on board. We have did Disney World the last two years in a row. So really looking forward to this. The gift exchange sounds like fun. Will have to look into it

Hope I posted in the correct place

:wave2:

I know you posted this a while back, but I was going thru all the post and saw yours. Our daughter will be 9 when the cruise kicks off. My daughter just loves to meet new friends and play play play. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

We did the FE in October. The list got large, also. It ended up being split into an A/B group so each had around 15-18 cabins depending on the number of occupants. Each group ended up with roughly 24 kids.
It was a lot of delivering and planning to make it special and not something someone would throw out before they left. Quality vs. quantity.

(Words of advice: I know people were well intentioned but I didn't keep homemade foods, things needing refrigeration, glass items, small candies, tattoos, things made with cheap magnets that fell off the door and wouldn't stay on even when the door wasn't even moving, oriental trading mass produced type crafts my child has to put together, cups from the dollar store with our names written sloppily on them in sharpie that the lids leaked... Etc)
I don't want to sound ungrateful but how many times have you came home with fast food kids meal toys, chuckee cheese prizes or goodie bags from birthday parties that break or lose interest in? I hate to see their money wasted.
The things that worked out the best were items from their hometown (bottled & sealed hot sauce, Canadian coins / sticker books about Canada), leather string necklaces made out of washers into Mickey icons, key chains with our sail date and character on it, strong magnets attached to decorated mini photo frames, cd with disney music, cd with surfer music, cd with popular music from that year, glow sticks, bottle cap necklaces with characters, bottle cap magnets, dry erase boards that had good magnets or could hang, reusable bags, earrings made with shrinky dunks (somehow) and a ship in a thick glass bottle that had little charms related to Disney and nautical items in the sand.
The lists were sent to everyone, so if you wanted to do both A/B cabins, you were welcome to give to those on the opposite list, also.

Either way, I would post a closing final date to sign up very soon so that there is no confusion on how long the list will be available to join.
IMO, two months is a reasonable deadline to sign up because I also ordered things to make my items personal. I had other things to line up in the last month leading up to the cruise.

Hope that helps :) not meant to offend anyone, just thought it was a good live and learn experience from our trip. :cool2:

Right now we have a 1 month deadline. I know some have already started personalized gifts for those on the current list, so I really don't want to split the current list apart. We are now at 25 cabins.

Is anyone opposed to splitting the list NOW at 25 cabins? 26 is likely, we have one long time poster on this thread that hasn't decided yet, so I'd like include her if she wants. (ETA-this could be true for more than this one person, she's just the one I am aware of. I'd give those already participating on the thread some time to decide. Not NOW as in today, urgently, lol).

Everyone likes different things, so I'd encourage everyone to give what they want and not stress too much about it. Just have fun. Some may not like tattoos, but my kids love them and I'll even wear the pirate ones on pirate night. We don't take toys on vacation so my DS' favorite item from our last FE was a cheap pirate rubber duck from Oriental Trading. Off course we love the bottlecap items and the magnets (that work) too.

On our cruise, we gave away the items we didn't like or want on the last day. The crew liked the candy, and some of the cheap toys were given to other children. My philosophy on FE is "share the magic."

Welcome! What a great birthday pressie! We hit a fog delay on our Feb cruise on the Magic out of Galveston, but not as bad as yours. :scared1: I think we left at about 6:00 pm. Like you, we still had a great time though! :woohoo:

Did I sign up for the FE for this sailing? We have several dates booked, and I thought I did...but I don't see our cabin on the FE document.

We are booked GTY, outside cabin. Just me and Annabeth, my 4 year old daughter. Could we please be added?

EXECUTIVE DECISION ABOUT FE GROUP:

I've gotten quite a few opinions on here, on our facebook page, and by PM. Using these opinions, I'm making the executive decision to close the first FE group (GROUP A) group in ONE WEEK on Tuesday, May 28th OR at 30 cabins, whichever comes first. If you've been thinking about joining, this is your warning to join the first group.

I will organize a second FE (GROUP B) for those joining our meet or deciding to join the FE after this date. Those participating in GROUP A will have the option of joining GROUP B if they desire to trade with more than the original 25-30 cabins.

Hopefully this decision suits the majority of our group. Thanks, and I hope everyone understands. :)

I put in my 2 cents on the FB page, but just copying here too. I think close either now or at 30 and split is a great plan! Thank you for organizing the FE!

We're now at 28 cabins in the FE list after adding a few people that have been participating here and on facebook but hadn't signed up yet.

2 more spots and Group A will be closed. :)
