Does anyone else on the board feel that it just happend yesterday. To this day I watch Tiger cruise on youtube every year.

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't stop to remember those who lost their lives, those who lost love ones on September 11th. It does feel like it was just yesterday at times.

Thank you for mentioning that movie, I hadn't seen it before, just watched it on Youtube and it should come with a warning about needing half a box of kleenex. But thats true for any footage or media about September 11th I do get quite emotional.

We live in NJ. There was one area where I sometimes drive, if it was a clear day you could see the Trade center. I always get sad when I drive it now. It is one of those days where I can remember exactly what I did that morning.
I do remember the day it happened. At first they thought it was a small plane. I heard that on the radio in the car, looked out the window and thought how the heck could anyone not see those towers?? it was such a beautiful, clear not a cloud in the blue sky type of day!!

Never more than a minute from my mind. Was on one of the last PATH trains in on that day, after the first plane hit. Continue to work 2 blocks from the WTC, commuting in on the PATH train every day and seeing the pit and construction.

The sky was so brilliantly blue, I always remember my commute to the city that day.

(and trying to get back home that afternoon)

Tiger Cruise??? never heard of it??? is it a movie

and yes its a day i never forget..... both my sister and dad worked on wall street... my sis was on 1 wall street... she was there at her office when the planes struck... we did not find out till that evening that she was okay... longest day of my life.. I have tears in my eyes just remembering....

Seems like yesterday and a hundred years ago at the same time...........:sad2:
I feel the same way.

I'll never forget that day.

I remember that DAY, sure, but I'll also never forget the drive to work the NEXT day. It seemed as though everyone bought an American flag overnight. They were all over cars, taped to the windows, hanging in rear windows, being flown on antenna or from the windows... all of the "America" songs on the radio at the same time. It was such a sad time, but we all came together for our country.

Definitely one of those days where you remember exactly where you were -- defining moment in history. My two guys were toddlers then, and it was surreal attending to them, sitting at their little purple table eating snacks and chattering away happily, while hubby and I (who was recovering from surgery) watched the events on television.

I remember the sky was so blue and there wasn't a cloud in it. I distincly remember that against the ashes that were raining on everyone. It was hot that day...like between 89-95.

I watched the movie United 93 and it brought on a whole bunch of emotions. It'll even be harder now because DF lost his aunt and uncle in the 2nd tower. :(

I'll never ever forget. And yes it's hard to believe it's been nine years,

I am from Northern NJ and was able to see the World Trade Center Towers on a clear day on a street driving outside my neighborhood. Have friends, family and neighbors who worked in the towers and surrounding buildings. It was just so much a part of our lives. I lost a friend I went to college with and a neighbor on the street I grew up on. And many more friends, family and neighbors who were affected by it in one way or another. It's a ripple effect...9 degrees of separation.

Also, at the time, I was living in Northern Virginia, in a small community outside of DC. Many of our friends and neighbors there were military. Almost all of the teachers in my DS' school at the time were military wives. They locked the schools down and teachers were not told what happened at the Pentagon as not to create panic since the schools were on lockdown. Many children's parents at the school worked at the Pentagon. Two of our neighbors who are dear friends are Marines, came knocking on our doors later that afternoon trying to talk about a plan if things continued to get worse. They were shaking and crying....one of the most vivid memories I had of the day, to see the strong, leaders of our nation who we looked up to so, so shaken. They were so wounded that this could be happening to our country.

We have many more memories of the day, but it is something we really do live with often, almost daily. We don't see toooo many beautiful blue skies, like on that day, in Virginia, but when we do, we always say it's a 9/11 sky.

The thing is, we are not from Ohio, so (sorry, no offense Ohioans) but we are always amazed at how many houses fly Ohio State flags (house after house!) compared to the American flag on a holiday. We always have an American flag flying in honor of that day.

Yes, it still seems like yesterday...

Yes, it does. I also remember exactly what I did that day, and I couldn't tell you what I did yesterday! Living in NJ, it was really scary. I was freaking out cause DH worked 2 blocks from there, but he was stuck on a bus on the NJT watching it happen, because I let him over sleep (boy was he mad at me..at first).

I had lots of friends that worked down there, since I had worked there 2 years before. I was making phone calls making sure everyone was ok, and if they needed me to pick up kids. The whole day was surreal. It was also DD first day of kindergarten, and my first day back at work after maternity leave.

My town and all the surrounding towns all have memorials dedicated to the people in their towns that were lost.

I will never forget that the night before, I couldn't sleep. Didn't go to bed at all. Watched the movie "Memento".
I'm not saying I couldn't sleep because something was bothering me, I just couldn't sleep on the night of 9/10. I figured I would take a nap the next day. That didn't happen. I was glued to the tv and the internet all day. It was almost 50 hours before I slept.

I remember when my girls got home from school, (6 and 7 yrs) they told me that the teachers were watching the coverage on tv in class until the prinicipal made them cut it off because the kids were getting upset.

They had ballet on Tuesday nights, so I got them in the car to take them to class. I was trying to find some music on the radio for them and there was none. This was around 6pm eastern and there was still nothing but news. No music on any channel. And HSN and QVC went off the air (not that I watch them, I just noticed it).

And like the PP said, the next day, there were American flags everywhere. It's kinda sad you don't see them anymore. I don't have one on my car, but I have one hung on my house.

I can't believe it's been 9 yrs already it feels like it was just yesterday' such a sad day for all America

It would be nice if we could ALL be patriotic like that EVERY day, not just on the Fourth, or on days like that...

on 9/11/01 I lived in Manhattan ( i mile north of ground zero) and work in Brooklyn ( directly across the East River from ground zero).

As I walked to the subway and then down the 1/2 mile hill to work I remember marveling at how incredibly crystal clear and brilliantly blue the sky was. It was the kind of sky that NEVER happens in NYC. The day felt bright, fresh, clean, and full of possibility.

I worked with developmentally disabled adults and we were bringing them in off the buses when the first plane hit. We could see it from our building....which was right underneath the Brooklyn Bridge. It was surreal.......

It was even more surreal to see the second plane hit, and then to see the world collapse around us. We were told to keep the TV's and radios off and to keep the program running normally. It was one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do. Our 94 clients knew that something was radically wrong, but we were not allowed to talk about it. We kept our buses on site and made arrangements to turn everyone around and get them back to their homes. Many of our direct care staff rode on the buses with them, so they were able to get home.

A co worker and I decided to walk across the bridge to get back to Manhattan. We packed a snack, water, and masks...as the air was incredibly foul. At the last minute we decided to try another subway line that did not go directly under the site and lo and behold it was open and had just started running again. It took 2 hours to get back to Manhattan as the train went VERY slowly and there were many stops and starts, not even connected to the regular stops to let people on and off.

When we got out of the subway, several miles from both of our homes the entire area was in chaos. Everyone wanted to know where the hospital was. There was no traffic on the streets, except for emergency vehicles. My part of town, the West Village was in the zone that was closed to vehicular traffic for days to allow emergency vehicles free access. It was also the part of town that was protected by the national guard. It was SO strange to see tanks and other armored vehicles on street corners.

It took months before things were even remotely "normal" and for me it took an entire year before I was able to go anywhere close to the site. To this day I cannot look at images or video from that day without getting tears in my eyes. I was lucky, I did not lose anyone that fateful day. My heart and prayers go out to all who did.

May we NEVER forget.
