84, wheelchair bound & Soarin

Hi

We are going with my in-laws to WDW on August 20, 2006.

Grandma is 84 and in a wheelchair. She is about 5' 3" tall.
She can walk for short periods

How does having a wheel chair work for the Soarin ride? Can you roll right up to the ride?

How high are the seats to get onto??? If they are too high does
Disney have a step stool to assist in getting on???

How does this work?

You can wheel the chair right up to the ride. She would have to transfer to the ride seat. I have never seen a stool available. Cast members are prohibited from touching a guest to assist; one can hold her chair steady and then move it off to the side afterwards. You should be able to get her to stand up and then assist her in getting into the seat.

DW and I have found soarin' to be one of the eaiser attractions to board. DW is in a similar physical state in that she can stand to transfer but can not walk too far. I imagine the 84 year old will absolutely love it!

We went on Soarin a number of times with DD. She can't walk at all, but can stand with assistance. My DD is 5 feet tall and was very comfortable. She used the strapm that goes between the legs for a little extra security.

You can pull the wheelchair as close as you want to the seat and there is lots of space in front of the seat. After she has transferred to the seat, the CM will move the wheelchair out of the way and park it in the 'aisle' where it will be out of the way.

Back in January my mother came to visit me. She was 91½ and went on Soarin', Living With the Land, Journey Into Imagination With Figment, and The American Adventure. Even though I "forced" her to use an ECV she was exhausted when we left.
