My 8yo son is very prone to motion sickness. He gets sick easily in the car and has gotten sick in airplanes as well.

Of course, I'm very concerned about the cruise! Sure don't want him spending the whole time in the cabin. Some of the trip reports have scared me!!!

I understand that there is free sea sickness medication dispensed onboard? Is this ok for kids to take?

Or is there something better that I should bring along from home?

Good question Zeke, I'd like to know this too.

My dd gets starts to get motion sick on a regular playground swing (after like 6 swings). She also complains she feels like she is going to throw up while riding in a car driving down semi-windy roads. She has flown w/o a problem though. I was thinking to ask the peditatrician if there was something for her...

Hi I'm not sure about the free medicines but alot of people use seabands and say they work well , they are elasticated bands with pressure pads that can be used on anyone and don't contain any medication so no side effects, they seem to be really popular and i know we;ll be taking them, you wear them for the whole trip.
I'd still see your Dr though and see if they can give you something for the trip, most Chemists sell chewable tablets specially for kids seasickness.
Good Luck

I just talked to my pediatrician last week and he said to use dramamine (not sure of the spelling). We have three kids ages 16, 13, and 6. He said it was okay for all of them.

Yes, the seasickness meds are offered for free on board the ships outside the clinic. However, I would not wait till I got on board to start the meds. We started taking them a day or two before boarding. I am extremely prone to seasickness and did not get sick, and we had very rough seas.

There is a children's dramamine on the market. It warns of drowsiness, but for our DS6 it perked him right up. You could tell exactly when it kicked in. He had never flown or cruised before so we wanted to make sure. He adapted well and didn't need it after the first day. I think the free stuff is regular strength Bonine.

We used the chewable Dramamine for our DS9. We gave him half a tablet after breakfast, and the other half after dinner. After the first couple of doses, it didn't seem to slow him down any. I would strongly advise starting to give him whatever you decide on, a couple of days prior to the cruise.

We had some very rough seas on the 4/17 eastern and a lot of people didn't feel well. DS was sick the first day (20 ft waves, 50mph winds), but felt fine by that evening after taking the Dramamine.
