8 year old foodie on the dining plan. Suggestions?

My 5 year old DS is the same way. Things we have found that work well for us with the dining plan. Buffets work great for kids with larger appetites or kids who want more grown up choices.

Good counter service options
Sunshine Seasons
Les Halles in France
Sommerfest in Germany
Be Our Guest in MK

Great TS kids menu

I'm sad that so many restaurants' kids meals are so out of line with the adult menu. I GET making "safe" options for picky kids but can't there be more options for adventurous eaters also?
We've booked a lot of buffets for our upcoming trip. Seemed the best way to get some variety of food options.

I think they do this not just for the safe "picky eater" , because some adults would want the lower price "adult version" kids meal.

Wolfgang Puck has well prepared food albeit on the kids menu: I have ordered it for myself when I was not very hungry: real turkey with mash & Macaroni and cheese that was prepared with fresh ingredients...not premade.

IF Sleepy Hollow is on DDP, I dont think it has a kids meal, and the Chicken waffle sandwich is my favorite food item, (I know it's a bit silly,) from our recent trip.

We ate at Teppan Edo two days ago and my little foodie got as much food, if not more than, I did. Excellent DDP value!

We did lots of buffets and AYCTE, including most of the places you mentioned, not gourmet but he always found something to eat. The only item he ate on any kid's buffet table was a Mickey waffle or 6.

Splitting adult QS amongst us worked really well for us in the past.

Upgrade her on the reservation to a 10 year old.

How do you upgrade a child to be a 10 year old on our dining plan? Our son will be 9 but he also now eats a lot of the adult menus more than the kids menus. Do we just call WDW reservations and tell them he is 10?

We upgraded two of our kids' ages last year with the free dining promotion, and it was simply the cost of the child to adult ticket upgrade. This version of SPD is definitely different, though. I checked yesterday to see how much it would be to have them on the adult plan and it was a $300 difference. If they don't have enough food, they can share mine.
How did you check to see how much more it would be to upgrade his age? If you called WDW, how did you word it so they dont think you are planning on lying about his age? Or is there a way to check our currently booked reservation online to see what the price difference would be without having to call anyone.

You should cancel the plan and pay OOP

They don't care if you change the age and bump them up. No,need to be sneaky. It's more money for them.

Just call and ask for a price difference if you upgraded the kids age to 10 for the adult dining plan. People do it all the time. It's not a big deal at all. Only way to price online would be to go,through the special offers page and the discount you have, and if the exact same room type and such was available.

That's great! Thank you. I will call and see what the price difference would be.:yay:

Can someone PLEASE help me? I just called to get my daughter's ticket (6) upgraded to a 10 year old ticket so she can order off the adult menu during our trip. We have the free table service/quick meal dining plan.

The woman I spoke to had no idea what I was talking about and she was going to check to see what she could do, it was her first time doing this etc, etc. She told me I had to do that at the restaurant when I get there, which I know is not accurate. Then she said she would pull up my reservation and start "figuring it out". I pretty much panicked because I DO NOT want to lose all of our fast passes/reservations etc that are associated with our tickets right now. I told her I'd check with "my friend who's done this" (lol) and would call back another time.

Can someone please tell me very specifically what I have to ask for and can someone reassure me that it will not change anything in my reservation as far as fast passes etc?

I would really appreciate the advice! Thank you!

My travel agent said that there is no such thing as an age upgrade. Disney just puts down the age you tell them your child is. So you have to call and tell them that they have your child's age wrong in the reservation and that she is 10. Dont say anything more.

To be clear, you're simply telling Disney that the child is older than they have on record. That means you'll have to pay the adult price for dining and park tickets. If you have free dining, then you only have to upgrade the park tickets, which is a great deal. If you're paying for the dining plan, it's probably (almost definitely) not worth the extra charge. If you have a Stay-Play-Dine package, it's more complicated.

Exactly so by giving them the extra information you gave them i.e age upgrade so they can eat from the adult menu, you are creating more confusion on their part. Just keep it simple. Call, tell them to correct her age and leave it at that.

Thank you for the replies. Out of curiosity, is there a way to know how much it will cost to change her age/ticket before I tell them they have her age wrong? I am happy to do it if it's going to be a reasonable charge, but I don't want to say her age is wrong, have them change it and then find out that I'm going to have to pay hundreds more to do so. Do you know what I mean? But if I tell them it's wrong, then it's pretty hard to back down and say, oh not that's ok, leave her as 6. :)

We have the Magic Your Way Plus Dining package if that matters.

Thanks!!

For us it was only $27 total, which is nothing :thumbsup2
