8 hour jobs.....

I started my first ever 8 hour job today...so I am not used to being home early, but I am sure going to miss my days off ( I used to work 12 hour shifts)....so what do I need to know about this change....i.e. doctors appointments....

What do you do with your extra time (can you tell I don't have kids )

I can't believe you have any extra time with 8 hour shifts. I work 3 12 hour shifts a week (4 once in awhile) and I think I'd die if I had to go back to working 5 days a week.

Reading your post reminded me of my first summer after graduating from college. I had to work my way through college at a job that had a minimum work week of 48 hours. I wanted to get out of school in 3 years so I took 12 - 18 semester hours. It was hell and I had no days off for the whole 3 years (day off of work was Tues and I had class).

When I graduated and moved down to FL all I had was a 40 hour work week and it was such a huge difference. As for what to do with all the extra time...I decided I was going to run a 5K and get in shape now that I had the time.

Good luck with all the extra time and don't use it to get in trouble.

I work 6-hr days now. Love it! I can go to the gym for an hour after work, before the kids get home. Or I can pick up ingredients for dinner and actually *cook* the dinner and have it on the table by 6pm. I can schedule doctor appointments, get my hair cut, or take DD16 to Target for last minute shopping.

I worked a lot of 12s on the night shift(I'm a nurse.) You couldn't pay me enough to go back to that. On 12s I had no life, was exhausted all the time. Sure, I had more days off, but what's the use of that if you're too tired to do anything?
