Reading "Disney World for Grown Ups" today and it stated that if you made a ADR didn't cancel it and didn't turn up then you would be charged $8.

On this board i've read the exact opposite that Disney doesn't charge for not canceling ADRs and that some people take advantage of this by having ADRs in different areas at the same time, to avoid having to be restricted that day.

Which is correct?

As long as you haven't provided a CC # to hold the reservation, I don't see how they can 'legally' charge you. With that being said, I believe it's courtesy to cancel any reservations not needed.

Some of the restaurants (e.g., CRT, HDDR, etc.) require a credit card confirmation when you book. Those charge a penalty if you do not show up. All other restaurants do not have a penalty if you don't show up. Essentially, if a credit card is required to make the reservation, there is probably a cancellation penalty. If no credit card is required, then there is no penalty for not canceling/showing up.

We had an unfortunate emergency our last trip that forced us to leave early. In all the chaos, I forgot to cancel a couple of reservations. I was never charged anything and since I was staying on site, they could have easily charged back my room.

And the no show penalty is often more than $8 dollars per person.
