My very first trip report! Here's some background info:
Me: 24, first trip to Disney was when I was 22, loves Tigger, vegetarian who eats fish and will sometimes eat chicken or turkey
DBF: 25, went to Disney several times as a child, loves chicken and brownies
Our first Disney trip together was for our college graduation a couple years ago. We had no idea what we were doing as I had never heard of the DISboards, so we stayed offsite at the Marriott and paid way more than we should have for just about everything.
I then discovered the wonder that is the DIS and we stayed at Pop last December and got the dining plan and the room for a huge discount. We LOVED Pop so decided to stay there again this year and I managed to convince DBF to go in August and risk a hurricane in order to get all the chicken and brownies his heart desires FOR FREE. Needless to say, he was sold.
We always drive because neither one of us is a fan of the flying. The first year we drove straight through -- huge mistake. We stopped at 5am at some random McDonald's and must have looked like complete crackheads -- we had the red eyes, we were cold and shaky, hungry, it was bad. Last year we decided to stay over in SC instead and that worked out wonderfully (except for the drive home when there were suspicious bloodlike stains on the sink and I woke up with several bug bites -- even though I slept in sweatpants, a sweatshirt, and socks on TOP of the blankets and not anywhere near the pillows).
This year we stayed in the same area (Florence, SC) but at a better hotel (Marriott). Much better. There was a Target, Burger King, and gas station right across the road, and there were several other hotels right next door. We felt very safe and weren't up every 10 minutes to check the car like we were last time.
We left NJ at around 11am on 8/19 expecting to get to the hotel around 10 or 11pm. Yeah, well, we hit 3 hours of traffic in DE (which actually only takes 14 minutes to drive through without traffic), plus another hour in VA, so we didn't get there until after midnight. Quick check-in, polite staff, clean room.
We were up and out of the room by 7am the next morning.
More to come soon. It gets better, I promise
