Okay, I'm finally caught up. I need to get some sleep now. Good night everyone. I will try to read more tomorrow.

Are those Lisa rules or Pete's rules?:rotfl:

I don't know. As soon as I hear rules it is followed by blah, blah, blah.

I don't do rules on vacation. Well, except for my dress code - no tops with sleeves, no shoes with toes.

Hey Crew, I'm back! What'd I miss over the last week? Wait - I know - just go read the summaries... :rotfl2:

Many thanks to Enna for covering for me during my absence.

And without further ado, here is the Pirate Joke of the day. This one is in honor of the day we all (or most of us) got our cabins. (Sure hope Enna didn't use this one already...)

pirate: pirate: pirate: pirate:
Long ago, when sailing ships ruled the waves, a captain and his crew were in danger of being boarded by a pirate ship. As the crew became frantic, the captain bellowed to his First Mate, "Bring me my red shirt!". The First Mate quickly retrieved the captain's red shirt, which the captain put on and lead the crew to battle the pirate boarding party. Although some casualties occurred among the crew, the pirates were repelled.

Later that day, the lookout screamed that there were two pirate vessels sending boarding parties. The crew cowered in fear, but the captain calm as ever bellowed, "Bring me my red shirt!". The battle was on, and once again the Captain and his crew repelled both boarding parties, although this time more casualties occurred.

Weary from the battles, the men sat around on deck that night recounting the day's occurrences when an ensign looked to the Captain and asked, "Sir, why did you call for your red shirt before the battle?". The Captain, giving the ensign a look that only a captain can give, exhorted, "If I am wounded in battle, the red shirt does not show the wound and thus, you men will continue to fight unafraid". The men sat in silence marveling at the courage of such a man.

As dawn came the next morning, the lookout screamed that there were pirate ships, 10 of them, all with boarding parties on their way. The men became silent and looked to their Captain for his usual command. The Captain, calm as ever, bellowed, "Bring me my brown pants!!

Enjoy! I'm off to read the summaries...

Anyone heard from Judy? I haven't seen her on today.
I was wondering where she's been... as I read all the pages trying to catch up this evening! I hope everything is okay...

Hi Shelley....I'm heading off to bed but how is your DH feeling???

Good Night Friends.........until we meet again....smile a while..........
Aw, thanks for asking. I think he's doing okay but I am going to call the dr tomorrow (because she said to call if it was still hurting after he went thru the 6 day medrol dosage pack). His shoulder started hurting again about the 4th day when the dosage pack had him down to 3 that day, then 2 the next day and yesterday only 1. So we'll see what she says. He's still taking a vicodin at night to make sure he can sleep instead of waking up in pain and I'm wondering how long that is going to last. I thought that was supposed to be a short term thing but I think he's getting a little dependent on it. It really worried me the other night when we got home at midnight, he took the vicodin and then 4hrs later they called him in to work! He really isn't supposed to work with vicodin in his system, his job is dangerous enough without that!

I think I've got early Alzheimer's. The brain is not functioning. I made baked steak....the kind with brown gravy, not tomatoes....and I forgot to make mashed potatoes! We sat down to eat and the boys were just kind of looking at the table.....

I'm losing it, I tell ya.:sad2:
LOL
I've done things similar at times. I usually notice before we sit down to eat but like if something needs to cook longer or takes longer to prepare and I'll forget to get it started FIRST... so everything will be ready while I'm still preparing or cooking the item that took longer... I hate when that happens- then I have to warm everything else up, everyone is waiting for dinner, etc.

Um, no, I am practicing at being a pirate, and I am this close to becoming one pirate:

No offense, but I seriously think we need to make a new rule about the pirates that they only count for those that are actually going on this cruise. that is after all what this thread is about... and no fair stealing from people going on this cruise! We need to make either the one before or the one after count if someone not on the cruise comes along just to post to try to get the pirate. Just my opinion on the matter. Just doesn't seem right to me... it's something fun for us to do on this thread- not for everyone to come in and snatch them. :confused3 :rotfl: (why people would want to is beyond me too... just saying) I mean one time it was purely by accident and a real post- but just trying to become a pirate on a cruise thread that you aren't going on that cruise? I don't get it...

Awww...bummer about the cruise! Jay has a chance to go to Utila with our dive buds, but he doesn't think he should leave work. I told him it would be good for him. (Just makes it a little easier for me to get away with the Moms!;) )
I may have to just look into DH going diving over the weekend, but it may have to be next weekend before I can find out info on that or get things planned. He'd lose any overtime they usually offer on Fri-Sun but that's better than trying to take a whole week off, if they would let him anyway!

Oh and I know- Jeff wouldn't go after a woman but if she was with someone he would probably start out with something to the effect of you better get your WOMAN to get her hands off my baby... and it would progress from there- probably (me and the little woman would be having words- verbal words ofcourse. LOL). Atleast I'm imagining it that way... nothing like that has ever happened but fortunately no one has ever assaulted any of our babies in that way! I mean really. The lady that thumped a child on the head, the other that snapped a baby's headband on her head, and another that was going to cut hair off a baby- would these people do this to other adults? Or is it just that they think children aren't people so it's okay for them to manhandle them for whatever reason they want? ugh

For those planning a visit to NYC, don't forget the other boroughs (Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx).

I finally get all ketched up and everyone is in bed. Hmmph.

Guess I'll go too. I'll probably dream about throwing mashed potatoes on baby touchers and subway freaks.

Uuuhhhh....sweet dreams Stace??

Good evenin' pirates.

I'm heading back for ketchup, but I wanted to share my excitement with you.
I sent out my first 2 resumes on Friday & I actually got a call from one of the organizations today! 50% return rate so far! I have plans to talk with/meet folks from this group this spring, so things are in the works.

I've got time, we won't be in DC until July & I don't want to start working until Aug., but it was nice to get at least one response quickly. I did some hunting today, so I need to get another 25ish cover letters written. Oy!

Gotta get a job to pay for TOAL!

Awesome news! Good luck!

Yes, there is one TKTS in Times Square and another near the South Street Seaport. You'd be suprised at the shows you can snag for half price.

I was there on Feb 10th (a Sat nite) and many good shows were avaialble (Phantom, Mamma Mia, Beauty and the Beast, Color Purple).

TKTS in Times Square only sells tix on the day of the show. The Seaport one also sells tixs one day in advance for the following day's matinees.

And finally I have been thru waverly.. and Elmira... and Corning.. and the rest of the Southern Tier... I went to Binghamton for undergrad!!!

I can personally recommend Slava's Snow Show. I was in NYC (overnight) last year on business. It was a Monday, and this was one of the few shows that wasn't dark - but it also came highly recommended by an acquantence. It was AWESOME.

Slava's Show Show is to clowning what Cirque is to circus. G rated. And with a cast of only four - a yellow clown, and three green ones. There are no lines, yet you'll laugh, cry, and smile through out. It's great for kids. Try to sit on an aisle.

Hey sk8ingmom -
I think we're the last two left. And I need to toddle off to bed.

Say - can you check the website? I just went to my link for it and I'm getting some strange "coming soon to this site" message from tripod. Is it me? Or is there a problem?

TTFN!

Site is down temporarily. Lisa (& someone else - sorry I forget who) are moving it to a secure site, so only cruisers will be able to get to it with a password.

Be sure to tell Lisa how much you miss the site tomorrow!

temporarily schmemporarily.
(LOL@sk8tingmom getting more people to tell Lisa how much they miss the website! I do miss it........)
There, that's my obligatory daily reminder of how much I miss having the list/website.
I finally get all ketched up and everyone is in bed. Hmmph.

Guess I'll go too. I'll probably dream about throwing mashed potatoes on baby touchers and subway freaks.

I'm not in bed! If no one is posting I'm not going to sit around posting by myself until you catch up! LOL If I had esp maybe.. cause then I'd know you were reading and about to come post with me. LOL
Oh and btw, what's up with the link thingy that is always in your posts? I suppose I should click it sometime and see what it's about, eh?

Gee - got a chance to ketchup as Matt's flu or whatever includes "upchucking" and I've been changing bedding all evening. It's late here in CA & I just finished remaking his bed again so goodnight & I hope I'll get some sleep tonight!

I should make notes while I read the posts as I had some thoughts to respond and now they're gone - wish I could blame it on the flu but ....!!!

Have a wonderful Tues. everyone!!!

Chris

I used to have the same problem when catching up, until I learned the joy of multi-quoting. :)

I'm so sorry Matt is feeling so bad! I hope he's well soon! NOT fun cleaning up "upchucking". :(

Well after our four days in NYC over a week ago, I am finally caught up.
I've read (okay...okay...skimmed) every single one of the 2273 pages on this thread. I think I have a disorder.

:) Created a signature. check

Re: NYC trip --> We had a great time with our DS9 and DS13 over the four day President's Weekend. We went to the Natural History Museum. We enjoyed the whole day there. We saw Wicked, Mary Poppins, and Rent. Wicked would be good for kids 10 and up. Mary Poppins 6 and up. Rent for kids 15 and up. My sons had seen the movie (Rent) and we'd listened and discussed the music for months in advance and they loved it, but it isn't for everybody.

Re: Pre-Cruise Planning --> In 2005 we stayed a few days in San Diego and enjoyed Legoland and the beach. Legoland was awesome for my boys. I remember finding cheap tickets somewhere -- I think Costco. We followed up with four days at the Grand Californian. I would recommend it if money isn't a factor. We only stayed there because of the AAA perk of unlimited fast passes. If that perk is still gone in 2008, we will stay at one of the recommended hotels across the street for a third of the price. We rented a car from the Long Beach airport and dropped it off near the port. We then got a taxi to the cruise terminal. It was easy and so convenient to have the car...especially with all four of us.

Re: growing up family --> My mother has been addicted to pain medications since I was little. She's gone through many a diagnosis over the years, but she will never make an effort to get off the painkillers. She's migrated from the milder drugs to the drugs people on the street would pay big bucks for -- MS Contin (a form of morphine). She hasn't/doesn't understand the impact this had on my life as a child and adult. She's never been a mother to me or a grandmother to her grandsons. She is so absorbed with getting and maintaining her fix, that she can't see the world around her. She never was abusive physically or mentally, but we were just ignored isntead. I was the fourth of five children and we basically had to raise ourselves. I don't know what I would have done without my older sister (5 years older) or my younger sister (18 months younger). We took care of each other. We now cruise together.

Re: occupation --> My husband and I both work for a large information technology firm. We've both have worked for the same company for 20+ years. We recently started working from home when the company decided to close the small office in rural Washington State. We love working from home, but miss the comradarie of working in an office. My husband is the techie type and I am the analyst who plans vacations on the side.

Re: proposal --> We picked out the ring together; but my DH proposed on a ridge while backpacking in the Olympic Mountains. I had no clue he had brought the ring into the wilderness. It was a beautiful moment. That was in 1989.

Re: Hawaii --> Our favorite place to vacation is Hawaii. We've now been 4 times with three trips planned in the future. We've been to Oahu (fair), Maui (great), Kauai (fine), and Big Island (favorite). We rent a condo and spend a week or two enjoying the beaches while snorkeling and boogie boarding.

Re: Cruising --> It only took this 15 night cruise to convince me to try cruising again. We really enjoyed the 14-night repo in August 2005, but weren't as thrilled with the 7-night last summer. I am slowly going to re-introduce the subject of cruising again with my DH. I hope by August 2008 he'll be convinced.

Re: Lurking --> I am primarily a lurker because I never seem to be caught up for more than a moment. I hope to get more involved with cruise activities once I am certain we are cruising. I have a huge project due in March of 2008 that could very likely get delayed and I wouldn't be able to go.

Lastly,

:flower1: Welcome to all those needing welcoming.
:flower1: Thoughts to all those needing comfort.
:flower1: Happy birthday to all those with birthdays.
:flower1: Smiles for all the great posts.
