Caught up on the thread again:

Thanks! It is Marriot rewards so I will have to look into the other hotels they have. I was kind of splurging with the points but if there is a lower category with a shuttle that would be a plus.

I drove from the "entrance" on Harbor Blvd of DLR to the Courtyard today, I was curious to see how far it really was, it's .8 of a mile. So on a map that should help with distance of other hotels. The Anabella is .4of a mile of the Grand Californian.

Still no stateroom assignment for us.

Still no assignment for us either.

Hang in there! There are a lot of cruisers on GTY, I posted a while back in my own opinion that wholsale room assisgnments would not, occur for a long time, and gave various reasons. I did say a few where logical will be made.

  • If people are in groups and staterooms come available together.
  • If that Cat level is not 'overbooked'
  • Some maybe underbooked other cat lelevels overbooked.
  • If T/A's had 'returns' rooms assigned and then no deposit.

Now apart from above it gives DCL lots for flexibility with GTY's

They will not allocate all of these as

  • They do overbook knowing x% will cancel.
  • They might be overbooked in your Cat Grade and currently penciled in for an upgrade. They will not tell you that now, as you/ others might pay for an upgrade.
  • If as you say some people get assigned others will say, why not me?
  • If they assigned your room, you then might block, a mutliple room request if others around where the ones to cancel.
Hold in there, do not worry!

Thanks Andrew, reading this makes me feel better. :flower3:

Dont know if this has been posted overnight, as I have just got up, but main board has posts that a CAT 9 stateroom for 2A 2C was available overnight, now gone, but should stop people worrying if DCL can sell more!

We have a Chevron station that we are going to have to reimage to the new standards in the next year or so. I will say that Chevron has badly needed this for a long time. But it is very expensive to update your facilities to meet the corporate demands. We had to do this at our Shell location in early 2004luckily my supplier paid for the bulk of it. But at least they don't take royalty skims........we just have to pay top $ for the gas we resell.

To be a purveyor to a virtual captive audience - we have to often be a client to a bigger fish who is also a purveyor in a captive audience (you). I've seen some service stations change brand from say Texaco to Mobile ... and even some prime real estate trade from being a gas station to mixed use retail and office space. I used to muse over the radical change in use. As... I thought the hugh traffic site was better suited for something like a gas station. But I've heard the EPA and environmental requirements can ake rennovating or updating older stations unfeasible or impractical from a ROI POV.

I've sometimes mused over the ROI potential for something like a gas station. Recently I was noting the lifetime counter on the gallons a single pump had on it. It only showed regular and the mid grade... the figures were 609,000 and 250,000 respectively. One pump out of 12... so... this one pump had 859,000 gallons... times 12 = 10,308,000 gallons at say an average of $2 over it's life = $20,616,000 in sales excluding premium and tangible concessions. No car wash was at this station. What are the monthly averages and margins? I don't expect any sort of answer from anyone - but I would guess the margins must be 6-12% NBIT. Premium gas should have sweeter margins.... and I would take a wild guess at sales being comparable to the mid grade... as nice cars never say fill with mid grade... they just say "premium only". So add another 5,125,000 to gross sales and shift the margins to 7-13% NBIT.

What am I saying? A dedicated used for prime RE for only 2.5KK if we have a 10% NBIT? Is that enough? Maybe with the added revenue from concessions? And it would ake a huge difference what the time frame was we're talking about here.

At any rate... my local station is singular and unique, I'm sure. It looks to be fairly LOW volume to me. And wih top dollar for your inventory - all i can say is one of my best friends has a spouse who works for one of the major refineries. And - no doubt about it - the oil companies have a nice gig!

Say...

... I don't know if anyone else has noticed yet - but the DCL web site is listing catagory 9 as available to book. The price for 2 is $6500 and if you add 2 kids (in my case 4 and 7) it becomes ... let me take a 2nd glance... $9,569.96.

The only thing is I can't advance past the initial quote page to actually book it.

Should make people on this thread worry less if there is some availability

pirate: I have no idea where the conversation is now because I'm still 75 pages back, but I had to announce that I'm coming out of lurking for good!!

I GOT A CABIN!!!

I've been religiously checking the DCL website and miracle of miracles, tonight there was a cat 9 that popped up instead of the error message. So I immediately called the Castaway Club and saved my spot!

Let's not even think about how much I'm paying for only 1 adult at this point. It'll all be worth it next August. Besides, maybe I can persuade someone to come along with me by then.

Anyway, now I'm really glad I've been "wasting" at least an hour a day of my life for the past 2 weeks lurking on this thread so I don't have to go back and catch up on everything.

Can't wait to meet everyone and to get to know you all personally in the next 18 months!!

WELL DONE AND WELCOME

I wish that I had more time to post. But it seems I just lurk a lot. Have a good night. Talk to you all tomorrow.

Paula...

I used to look on these DIS threads with huge curiosity and post sparingly... now that I've got a couple sailings behind me and the kids a little older ... LOOK WHATS' HAPPENED TO ME! Maybe you're better off lurking more than piling up a posting number... <chuckles>

I wouldn't sweat it none. Just get in on the lists for inclusion on the fun stuff... toss in the ocassional remark and the whole thing will take on a life of its' own ... with YOU. It has nothing to do with having to post a certain number of remarks weekly or daily.

Cheers!:thumbsup2

I wuz waiting for someone to post this again... now you know... we're gonna keep an eye on you from now on...

:sail:

I do hope y'all don't mind my 'attempts' at humor. I do not want to offend any of you, if for no other reason than I will stuck in close quarters with you for 15 days, and having been on more cruises then me, you probably know all the good places to hide a body.

My body would probably be there too...I've worried more than once that an attempt at humor may offend someone. So far, assuming there are no Amish on the ship, I think I'm ok.:duck:

We now stand at an astounding 199,815 visits over the past 30 days, 7 hours and 26 minutes. That is 30.31 days which makes for a daily average of 6,592.38 visits a day.... or 274.68 visits an hour .... or 4.58 visits a minute... or one new visitor every 13.10 seconds.

wow...that's a whole lot of time spent here...:flower:

They're just hits... 19,300+ posts in 30.31 days is a big number. That works out to 636.75 posts a day... or 26.53 an hour... or one new posting every 2 minutes and 15.6 seconds for 30.31 days straight. Thats' a lot.

LOL
Since I have clearly stated I meant fluff as in "nothing" posts... there can't be such a thing as thick fluff. You can't post too much to make something become fluff- since fluff means posting NOTHING (basically). Ya silly.

On ocassion I've had it conveyed upon myself that my posts WERE a lot of "nothing"... <chuckles> ... so I started adding pictures. <LOL!> That sort of chamged the direction of everything until the bandwodth started getting clogged. THAT was unintentional on my part. :confused3

Hey look! He's wearing a rugby uniform!!

Good thing I'm not a RUGBY fan - otherwise I'd be simmerin' fer some kind of response (hint - hint) .... not that I'm goading anyone - or adopting the role of an "instigator"... seein' as someone else has claimed that nobel title...

So... this is a rugby uniform? I didn't know they needed ... scales to play?

Oh yeah ... fer what it's worth I thought that was kind of poetic and like... charming the way you have so many of your favorite things all rolled into one on the sailin' with dinner, smells an' all. I guess - all that's missing is to start your SO playin' rugby with a sorcerers' cap and a fistful of cash and airline tix on flight #57 to Athens and it would become a 7 point sweep!

 Good Morning Crew
