8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC Part 4

We're still late and I think we will be keeping it unless my wife commands otherwise. We did early for the first time in December and I didn't like rushing back to change for dinner (we had 5:30! seating and that is much earlier than we dine at home). I also liked going straight from dinner out for a drink after sending the kids to the clubs vs. dinner-then-photos-then-show then feeling tired and wanting to go to bed.

With us it is pictures > dinner > pictures > show > pictures.

I am officially writing to say Hello!!! I swore to myself, " Self, you can't post until you have read all the posts so you know what you are talking about" Today I told myself "the H E double toothpicks with that because the thread moves to fast that by the time some one reads what I write it won't matter if I don't have a clue what I said"
Now that I have totally confused myself, let me introduce myself.
My name is Laura and my husband Mark has just booked us on this cruise. I am sure that he has posted that we booked but darned if I can find where it is in the multitude of wonderful discussions going on here. His screen name is Disneypilots, in case we ever get to post again.
We are traveling with our DD who will be 17 and an entering her senior year the week after the cruise and our DS who will be 15 and probably wanting us to drive to LA so he can get in his miles to earn his Drivers license. Also, traveling with us will by my MIL and FIL.
Can't wait to meet all of you wonderful pirates and wenches, swabbies too. I do have to say that I am looking forward to meeting Todd as he has claimed the role of "THE" Pirate for this cruise, however, my DH has been calling himself Pirate for years now and will all ways be the true Pirate in my heart. I guess I will have to make us costumes. BTW I have two live parrots if someone wants to figure out how to smuggle them onto the ship for their costumes. Can't guarantee you won't need an eye patch afterward however.
I started to read the posts and read 250 yesterday and was heading for more today but real life keeps interfering. Hate that.

Here's my recap info.

Met DH at a wedding....long story.
I would be Doc if I was a Dwarf because he tends to mix up his words and I spend half my typing time doing corrections.
There was discussion on Lego's. Love Lego's. I coached a Lego Robotics team for 5 years. Even won a few 1st place trophies.

was desperately in love with Leif Garrett, gotta love Tiger Beat mag.
Love motorcycles, DH has a Anniversary Harley Softtail. I think that might have been a discussion I missed but saw it in the recaps.
Love Crashes pictures and Andy's smilies.
Can't get enough of Target and gotta have the sales at Wal-marts too.
We have been to Aruba and will gladly give you directions to the bars. Or you could just take the Jolly Pirates cruise. The best time.
Be glad to bring some batteries or maybe just the rum.
Don't have a tattoo but would love to see others, to get ideas of course
I don't care much for lime green but would gladly be tagged with a bracelet. Will need to read more to figure details on how to get those.

Think that Todd has an awesome talent for graphic designs. Very impressive.
My screen name comes from the fact that my dream job would to be The Fairy Godmother. Gotta love that wand!!!!!

We were on the Western last week and the CC reception was on Monday at 11 - I was mad because I had a massage scheduled that morning and didn't want to miss the reception since it was our first one - had to see what it was about. Free sodas, OJ and teas, mickey krispies and that was about it! They handed out a brochure with some questions and you could get them answered by mingling with other cruisers and CM's. We each got an entry to fill out to win a raffle prize, and we each got a free pen. They gave away 10 Clocks and then it was over (of course we didn't win) I didn't have to cancel my massage, but the whole time i was worried about what time it was

One other thing I HOPE they will change before we cruise again is SHUTTERS! I was so angry with the lady at Shutters by the end of the week that I just ended up cancelling my package and getting 2 pictures and paying dearly for them. I was so irritated with her - she always seemed to be there too. She was not working with me at all and I was being nice. I HATE all the pics that they take and put tacky borders on them - some are fine but I wish it was optional. The times I asked to have a photo changed or have the border deleted, she got pushy about us buying more than one package and adamant that if i continued to stack my photos that she would have move them and I would have to search all over again to find them. I am sorry but these photos aren't cheap. I wish DCL would do something similar to what they do in the parks so we don't have to suffer the wrath of even being in Shutters on the last day of the cruise - which is when most of the pics we had taken were up anyways. Half the cruiseship was in Shutters at 5pm on Friday - YIKES!! It would be nice to not have the hassle of searching (some photos all look the same and you are trying to find one out of 1,000). Okay I will get off my soap box now........thanks for reading!

I'm with you about Shutters!!! That was the most stressful part of our trip. I think there is a lot of improvement that can be made there!

I agree. Last time, DH was in line 'til after 11 pm on the last night. I was afraid that he would still be in line at breakfast time!

Actually, you bring up something I was going to ask, has anyone gotten their mailed confirrmations from DCL yet? I've already requested a detailed breakdown from my TA but haven't gotten anything yet.

On the 29th, I called DCL to increase my deposit for the dummy booking to cover the $$$$ required to book this cruise. Yesterday I rec'd that confirmation in the mail of the additional monies put down. So I am thinking tomorrow or Sat I sould receive the confirmation of the transaction on the 31st

I was assuming a swabbie was anyone who was NOT a pirate or wench... so are all females wenches? OR to be a wench does a female have to qualify with a mini or full "000" posting?

I'm with you about Shutters!!! That was the most stressful part of our trip. I think there is a lot of improvement that can be made there!

Definitely a lot of room for improvement there. I can't figure out why they haven't fixed this issue a long time ago! Do they not realize what a pain in the rump it is? Do they not realize they'd sell more pictures if they did it differently? And also save money too... geesh printing all those photos for nothing.

During our cruise I thought I wouldn't buy any pictures so I only glanced while walking thru for AP dinner and occasionally caught a glimpse of some of our photos- for instance the photos they took of us on CC (the first time) but I couldn't find the one that I would be most likely to purchase (all 3 of the kids in one picture at the beach). I don't know if that photo didn't come out or what but I never saw it.
Later in the week after formal night I went to look- those were gone. At the end of the cruise I rummaged thru boxes and boxes of photos trying to find photos of us to decide which ones I'd want to purchase and my choices were limited. I don't know if they threw away the pictures from CC or what- but they were nowhere to be found (and we weren't sitting on the beach all day on the 2nd trip to CC so we didn't have pictures taken on the 2nd day there).

Would have been so much easier AND less costly if they did this some other way. Many ways they could do this. For instance they could give you a number like they do here at Six Flags and then your pictures grouped together by that number for you to peruse later (although theirs are on computers, not printed out) or they could do the photopass like they do at the parks. Seems like such a waste on pictures we can't even find to purchase them!

(oh and btw, I'm not exactly keen on the idea of photos of myself and my children, but mostly myself LOL, being put on display like that for everyone to see. It just feels like an invasion of my privacy to have photos of me displayed for everyone to see on the cruise- I try not to even THINK about how people could possibly BUY photos that aren't even their family. I wouldn't be surprised if it hasn't happened before, it's highly possible. They don't only sell to those in the photos obviously- because you could have just one child or family member in the photo you're purchasing- so there is no way for them to know if the person is purchasing some stranger's photos. There could be photos of kids at CC/etc. in the hands of someone they don't belong with. That bothers me- almost enough to tell them NOT to take photos of us- except maybe in the case of when we're fully dressed for formal night or something like that)

I hope DS is feeling better. Of course you talking about getting your license renewed had me and pulling out mine Guess I've got a few years on you because I still have 3 years left on my DL before renewal.

Well, moving to NC made me get a new license earlier than I would have had to in VA, then I got married & got it changed.

Thanks for the info. DCL said pay no attetion to the boards when I told her people were starting to receive room numbers. DCL said people just make up their own stories. I am happy with a CAT 5 but if DCL would like to give me a CAT 4.

I have a GTY Cat 4 - you can certainly have mine if they bump me up to a Cat 3

I got a confirmation from DCL in the mail today... however, the prices did not reflect my OBD ... nor did the 2nd cabin I booked show up. The 2nd one is for my in-laws.

Don't get me started on Shutters - to late! The only picture I wanted on ou cruise was a pic of the three of us in front of the Christmas tree on dress-up night. So we wait in line for 30 minutes, and the photographer takes two pictures of us. After dinner I make my way over to Shutters to check it out, but first wait on line to find out if there is enough time for them to make up the Christmas card package, which the lady behind the counter finally agrees there is time. I go to get our pictures and the are both absolutely awful - DH was wearing his glasses in both the flash was reflected on them, and they had him is some weird pose where his head was practically all the way back. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. I figure on this one we will have many more opportunities for photos and hopefully will get a good one of the three of us on one of the formal nights for Christmas cards in 2008.
