DisneyVegas1 is our Captain, as in Captain Jack Sparrow

Wenches = women, Swabbies = men

Just bragging rights when you get a pirate, which is a 000 post (1000, 2000, 3000, etc). A mini pirate is a 00 post.

Lisa, lbgraves, is a moderator on the cruise board and she is also cruising with us. So we think of her as our own private mod.......and we keep her busy too....:rotfl:

Thank You - I felt stupid for asking but thought oh well - I'm curious and after all - don't we tell our children - the only stupid ? is one that is not asked?

Thanks all - have a great day - for those snowed in or with children to you - here's a little pixiedust: to give you loads of patience. Here's a :flower3: for you to help your day go by quickly!

Yes lets take one each from the screens now, a new DCL service you can put them out of the PC monitor fresh! Remember Willie Wonka and the chocolate factory transmitting Choc's by TV!

We saw an alligator/croc? in the canal in 05, while we were waiting on our turn in the locks. this was on the EB cruise

Is this just my imagination but I can actually keep up with the posts!!:rotfl2:
Is this the time to chat, during the middle of the day?:confused3
I just can not keep the pace up at night. :rolleyes1
I keep going backwards and forwards and forget which way I was reading. I guess my age does not help.

Forget about that WHAT ABOUT THE CHICKEN STRIPS!:scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:

They are the BEST. They had better not change them or I will cancel my cruise right NOW.

(ok, maybe not. but they are quite good.)

Anyone read popular Mechanics?

In the current issue they cited how ships transiting the Panama Canal can line up and wait for days sometimes to get through! Last August one ship waited a week for its' turn to go - plus the Panama Canal authority instituted an aution process where a ship owner could bid to move to the fron to f the line. The highest bid on record was $220,000 for an oil tanker to move up. AND in that case the total cost for the transit in this case was $just over $400,000! Than implies the normal fee for passage was $180,000! Daily operating cost for some ships was also cited as being as high as $30,000 a day. So the 7 day delay cost the ship owner $280,000! One of the 2 locks closed abruptly for unscheduled maintenance when all these delays occurred.

So... what do you suppose DCL is paying for our ride through the Panama Canal? If a tanker is $180,000... then what would the Magic cost... $150,000... or $200,000? And what if you had a little motor boat - or yacht? DO they charge based on tonnage or on a percentage of revenue the ship is running - if a commercial ship?

OK... enuf for goofing around... I gotta turn away for a bit... I'll be back...:thumbsup2

Interesting thoughts to ponder

Broke but will be happy two weeks this year and two weeks next when it all comes together, have a good one in the Med and DLP yourself.!
Thats right Im on the cruise right before you! Ill try an e-mail you a heads up!:chat: I have a feeling that it is not going to be as relaxing as the Caribean!:beach:

DisneyLand:cool1: :woohoo:  :dance3: :cheer2:

Wow...I knew it was far, but did not realize that long of a drive. And yes, it would be Napa I would want to visit. Need to think about this one a little more.

That is so true about the East Coast. Take RI, you just blink and you've crossed that state

I thought so. Napa is beautiful though. And I could recommend some of my favorite wineries....speaking of which, I need to order some more...or maybe take a drive up this weekend (I'm an hour from Napa).

Sometimes you can get Jet Blue roundtrip Long Beach to Oakland for $100 per person. Then hotwire or priceline a car. From Oakland, it would be a 1 1/2 hour drive to Napa. Let me know if you decide to check into things and I can make some suggestions.

Mine will 13 this month!!:scared:

The worst thing about booking so far in advance is aging your kids.:upsidedow

I know -- I had quite a bit of trouble with the math (remember, I am a simpleton) when Lisa asked for kids' ages. Did she want their current age? Their age on the cruise? And Thing 2 (DS-currently-10) has a birthday ON the cruise. So he will be (hang on, need to use fingers and toes, born in 1996, which I only remember because we were living in Atlanta at the time and SWMBO was very pregnant standing in the heat at the Olympics, +10 for 2006, +1 for 2007, carry the, well, no carry) 11 when we board and 12 by the time we leave.

Note to self: order cake for DS on his birthday night. or better yet, alert SWMBO since she will remember and I will not. (simpleton, remember?)

Lisa wants their ages at cruise time. You could say 11/12? ;)

I would be leary of using a soda machine that lets the can/bottle drop so you can get it. How long do you have to tap the top so that it doesn't explode when you open it?

Don't tap the top -- tap the SIDES.

You see, when a can is shaken, bubbles of gas form on the inside of the can. When you open the can, the pressure goes down and the bubbles expand, forcing out the soda. Tapping the sides all around dislodges the bubbles.

I learned this at a science experiment with our Cub Scout troop. The guy shook up a can of pop (born in PA, living in IL, so it is pop again) and had one of the kids aim it at his parent. He flicked the sides of the can all around with his finger and it did NOT explode.

Yes the number of ports and places to see it will be like the Disney theme parks day after day, the Disneyland hotel is in a perfect position, its actuallt above the entrance of the Disneyland park and has views right up main street. It looks very nice and a small walk from the train station nd downtown disney, everything is very compact there, not like WDW, more like DL cal.

Lots of additions this year to rides as its its 15th Birthday!

If you're talking Napa Valley wine country, that's clear on the other end of the state, either an 8-9 hour drive or 1 1/2 hour flight. You could do some of the Santa Barbara wineries, only about a 2 hour drive or so. Just an FYI - traveling to opposite ends of our state is very unlike the eastern side of the country. We drive for 10 hours and are still in CA. Back your way, you drive 10 hours and you've crossed 3 states!

We did this a few years back. We flew into LA and drove up the PCH, stopping in Monterrey for the night (nice hotel right on the beach) and then went to SF and Napa. You are right, it is a long drive and even longer on the PCH, but it is beautiful scenery, especially for those of us trapped in the flat midwest.

We loved Sonoma especially. Some of the wineries (Sterling in particular) were kid-friendly and had grape-tasting for the kids and coloring books.
