That's great! Wish I could just get mine paid off...I think it'll probably take me until May...LOL

I figured out that if I make monthly payments I'll have it paid off by April 2008. This way I also won't have a heart attack by taking all of it out of our savings at once...

Congratulations Andrew!:)

Hi everyone, hope your all staying warm.

Hope this post isn't considered nonsense to.

Got a question for those of you that are experts at this stuff and know what a good rate is versus a bad rate. Sorry for the subjective question as I am pretty new to cruise vacations in general.

Is $12,806.20 (No transfers, no insurance) an okay price for a Cat 4 (2A, 3K) on the 2008 EB Repo Curise?

Thanks!

:dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

You can get 100 points for that! Harsh, but True but I wouldnt say it!:happytv: :dance3:

Folks around here suffer from a similar condition. When people new to the area ask for directions, they tend to hear things like, "Make a left where the Lowes used to be..."

Oh, that should be helpful!!! :lmao: :lmao:

Not sure if it is or isn't beacuse we don't know the ages of your kids
We paid 9672.86 for 2 adults, 2 kids age 13 & 11 in a cat 4

Congrats Andrew! With the exchange rate being in your favor now, this could potentially save you quite a bit of money!

Thanks, yes the saving my worry is by next year it could have swung back in your favour, so I do not want the risk, plus the UK>USA flights are going to cost a bit in September, and I have to ask DU later to book Disneyland resort, although I think that is pay on arrival not in advance like WDW.

Anyone read popular Mechanics?

In the current issue they cited how ships transiting the Panama Canal can line up and wait for days sometimes to get through! Last August one ship waited a week for its' turn to go - plus the Panama Canal authority instituted an aution process where a ship owner could bid to move to the fron to f the line. The highest bid on record was $220,000 for an oil tanker to move up. AND in that case the total cost for the transit in this case was $just over $400,000! Than implies the normal fee for passage was $180,000! Daily operating cost for some ships was also cited as being as high as $30,000 a day. So the 7 day delay cost the ship owner $280,000! One of the 2 locks closed abruptly for unscheduled maintenance when all these delays occurred.

So... what do you suppose DCL is paying for our ride through the Panama Canal? If a tanker is $180,000... then what would the Magic cost... $150,000... or $200,000? And what if you had a little motor boat - or yacht? DO they charge based on tonnage or on a percentage of revenue the ship is running - if a commercial ship?

OK... enuf for goofing around... I gotta turn away for a bit... I'll be back...:thumbsup2

Here is the breakdown that I got from the CM at DCL when I transfered my resie.

Per person non commissionable fee: $353.24 x 5 = 1766.20.

My wife is very upset after hearing what you paid for your cat 4. She thinks we over paid.

:faint: No wonder this cruise is costing an arm and a leg (and another arm...:lmao: )

Our cat6 is costing us $9,019.72 (w/out ins) for 2a and 1 13 yo.

This is when I say to myself "Trip of a Lifetime...trip of a lifetime...tripofalifetime"

Peter, don't you just have 4 in your room, though? They have 5 so that would account for most of the difference...plus probably another tier higher.

I hope it's not tier 2 :scared1: We booked online at 5:20am for the exact configuration CAT 4 2A 3K 15,15 & 12 and got the same quote as UVAWahoo. I thought we did good

They probably got in on tier 1 pricing from being on a TA or being lucky enough to get thru to DCL before the pricing started going up. I was looking online and 5 minutes before I was able to book on the phone, the price for our room went up $800. :(

Firstly the DM would have paid a bit more for a guaranteed slot both ways booking well in advance, I read they charge by the effective floor space on the ship, ie inc all decks etc and it has a set price, ships can wait a long time outside you will see them wating, also at each lock, but they pay different levels if speed isnt an issue.

If you're talking Napa Valley wine country, that's clear on the other end of the state, either an 8-9 hour drive or 1 1/2 hour flight. You could do some of the Santa Barbara wineries, only about a 2 hour drive or so. Just an FYI - traveling to opposite ends of our state is very unlike the eastern side of the country. We drive for 10 hours and are still in CA. Back your way, you drive 10 hours and you've crossed 3 states!

Wow...I knew it was far, but did not realize that long of a drive. And yes, it would be Napa I would want to visit. Need to think about this one a little more.

That is so true about the East Coast. Take RI, you just blink and you've crossed that state
