:cloud9: Wow, I just made it through to the end of posts. I have been reading since Wednesday, LOL. Wanted to say "Hi" and introduce myself. We will be on this cruise with all of you. This will be our second Disney Cruise. We went last November on the Double Dip. We were hooked! Myself, DH, DD 10 and DS 3 (at time of cruising). Look forward to "meeting" all of you over the next 18 months.

Welcome aboard!!:welcome:

DW is planning out the door sign/banner/billboard  and wanted to know about door dimensions. I figured someone here surely must have stateroom door measurements?:confused3

Here are a few photos...

.... they are fabric hangers which go over your fish. The fish is a metal piece which has a slot behind it for holding a couple of letters - as in invites/reminders from Palo's, spa or ship bought shore extenders, captains' reception for CC members, etc. Of course, for getting lots of mail or 3D goodies it is useless. So long ago an enterprising chap/lad conceived of the FISH extender. Who... I don't know. At any rate, a certain amount of creativity may apply in the creation of your fish exender.

On my last sailing - the 11 nite southern in 06 one very kind and industrious soul offerred to hand make a fish extender for anyone on our sailing who PM'd her... for a token fee which just covered postage and maybe a a dollar and a bit for materials! Here are some photos from that sailing which have some home made ones plus the ones made by our generous contributor. Litterially, there seemed to be dozens if not a hundred of her hand made door extenders on the ship!

Here is a link to see a few FISH extenders from our last sailing: http://www.dotphoto.com/Go.asp?l=nma4cnc&P=egt3q4&AID=4286301&Show=Y

BTW... everyone one came with a zip tie to secure the fish to the hanger. It discouraged pilfering from tricksters.

OOOH...will she be joining us for the Friends of Lisa G. OCPD metings?

There are several ways to tie dye a Mickey head. Here's the one we used: http://www.graenit.com/tiedye.htm. This makes a more "abstract" head. But uses only rubber bands and is pretty easy to do.

You can also trace a Mickey head on the shirt (using a paper plate or something), baste around it, andpull the threads up very tightly (like a drawstring). This makes a more "perfect" head. But requires needle and thread.

There's also a swirl Mickey head - it's referenced on the thread we got the link to earlier.

Once you get comfortable with how to use dye you can start to do different sorts of things. Here are the shirts I did for our Aug'06 trip.

This is one is a two step process where you die the shirt and then remove the dye to make a pattern.

Oops. There I go again. Um, I'm just a little passionate about wearable fabric art. It's probably way more than you really want to know. I'll be quiet now.

:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

How beautiful! You are very talented!!!

Hi everyone. I have made my deposit and will be sailing with all of you. Though I still have a dummy reservation that DCL has refused to give me the discount and OBC for and my TA from AAA and DCL are trying to work out. But no matter what happens we still plan to cruise. So right now I have a GTY Cat 8.

It will be myself and DH. We are friends of Jeanneg and it will be our 8 DCL cruise and my third with Jeanne and her DH.

So can someone let me know how to get the banner.

Nancy

:wave:Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

If it hasn't already been posted, you can go to the first page of this thread, that's where you will find the links for the different size banners that can be placed in your siggie.

For our cruise last year, we left WDW and told the kids we were, "Going to go look at the ocean since we're this close." We happened to find the ocean near the port, where I promptly announced that I needed to use the bathroom....maybe Disney would let me use theirs since I still had my t-shirt & ears on from WDW. As we sat on the drawbridge near the terminal, I flipped down my windshield visor, and a note from Tinkerbelle fell saying, "You are going on a Disney Cruise" with the date. The kids were in shock all the way through the check-in process, picture with Minnie & walk through the ear tube. The blank look last through lunch, and the giggles started at the Mickey pool.

While they were swimming (DH supervising) I went down to the room to unpack quickly. I wasn't gone long enough for them to notice. When we went to the room after swimming/for muster drill, they found their clothes (princess dresses, priate costumes, etc.) in the closet and it was at that moment that it sunk in that we were really going to be going on the cruise.

We're going to do our best to keep this cruise under wraps for a while. As much as I'd love to show up at the port, I think it will be more important to have the kids make some DIS friends and learn a little about the geography, cruise ports, etc. prior to getting on the ship this time. Still, if you can pull this off as a surprise, it's worth it for that big WOW.

That's sweet!

We tried to keep a WDW trip secret from Joe when we was 6 - we were going down for a long weekend, staying at AKL. We told him that we couldn't afford WDW but would go to Holy Land Theme Park - to make a long story short, the night before we were supposed to leave he fell and broke his elbow. He was in surgery when we were supposed to be on an airplane - TG for trip insurance!

How on earth would we explain THAT plumbing problem to Guest Services?

knife_fork.jpg

Well...

... you could try carving it down to flushable chunks with a fork and knife? <eeeewwwuuu!> You wouldn't want to send Andy the ships' plumbers' bill on account of your neighborly kindness in allowing a verandah visit for verandah man? <chuckles>

Ok, all caught up and it doesn't seem to be moving too outrageously this morning. I think it will be safe for me to go fix breakfast now.

Seems Tina is slacking on providing the morning treats.

On our first DCL trip, we were without use of our potty for more than 12 hours because of a major plumbing problem. Apparently, some teenager on Deck 2 decided to flush a T-shrit, just to see if he could. Our room was next to the plumbing closet, so we had workers hammering outside of our door all night long.

Just the thought of being without a potty for that long again gives me the heebie jeebies.

Now there's a problem that Draino can't fix!

How does the Paolo brunch work on this cruise? How many are there? I (oops WE) would like to do dinner but the dining is fun with others-so brunch is what we will do! Or if there is a dinner to skip out on which would it be?

Way to early to be thinking of this!

We have 7 offical sea days and PC day will also be a sea day (we won't be getting off the ship), so theoretically there will be 8 chances to have brunch since they are usually on sea days.

Thanks for the great list of tips Andrew.
Do you recall how much the photo packages were in 2005? Any idea how many photos are included?

This is just :scared1: !

Poor plumber who gets sent to fix the problem will come in looking like this:

Andrew, you hit a lot of good points. We sailed in August 2005 through the Canal and found the back of the ship a great spot. Great views, and less crowded on the back of the ship. We were so lucky with the overcast day - all the hats and sunscreen I packed were used more in Curacao than on Panama Day.

I noticed a lot of people staked their claim in chairs but honestly, you'll probably go back in air conditioning from time to time. I enjoyed hitting all of the different decks throughout the day.

It's pretty humid in August going through the canal so prepare your cameras accordingly. Wrapping the cameras in a towel or bag and slowly exposing them to the heat helps cut down on fogging up the lenses. .

The camera issue is a valid point do not keep them in a cool place say under air conditioning then take them out, i knowin Manzillino mie didnt work for about 45 mins.

You will need to refesh youself from time to tome in the aircon I dont think anyone can last all day out there without getting a migriane.

Yes agree the back of the boat has just as good views and nice to take pictures, just people like to see where they are going rather than where they have been so naturally stake out the front of Deck 10, very early indeed. and shuffle deckchairs around to protect heir space.
