London is really great worth at least a week.

We were considering the "Adventures by Disney" trip that does London and Paris, but it spends far more time in Paris than London. My wife and I have both been to Paris (and she's going back in December) and don't think there is as much there to captivate our kids as London, so now we're looking at other options for London.

I'm pretty comfortable in foreign countries, so I could manage London without a guide (once I get past the language barrier), but we did like the idea of having some of the things managed for us just to make it more relaxing.

That language barrier can be tough. Ask a simple question, such as "Where is the elevator? or Where is the bathroom? or Is this where I line up?" and they get all confused and start speaking foreign terms like "lift" or "loo" or "queue"..... can be positively scary. :lmao: :lmao:

My first time in the UK, a long time ago, visiting our office in Swindon, I told the cab driver I'd get so lost on all of the roundabouts, so he asked me if I wanted to see the "Magic Roundabout". So he took me around it. No way I could ever drive it.

My kids were impressed I'd worked in a building (also in Swindon) that was once in a James Bond movie, though, so that's something.

Roundabout-why?

London is so easy to get around so much to see and no language barrier!!

Yes, the first time a colleague asked me if he could borrow a 'rubber', I knew I was in trouble.

Well, I took the plunge. Just purchased the return flight from the cruise. Paid $30 more than the lowest fare, but the trip home is 2 hours faster! It was worth it.

Still waiting for SW to come out with their summer fares. :bored: (actually, what I really wanted was a smiley with tapping fingers.)

I read on one of their sites that they are planning on opening up thru May 9 on Nov. 8. So hopefully the summer rates will be open by January. I am patiently waiting also!

At least he wasn't trying to bum a '***' (ok, so I can't put an English term for cigarette in)

I do pretty well with staying on the left side of the road until I get to roundabouts. My natural tendency to go right takes over.

I know you do not have roundabouts ove there, the one posted is a be question mark though which way to go around, most of ours are normal.

Disney and Bank of America to donate money to help fire recovery effort
Oct 25, 2007

Mercury News- BURBANK, Calif.—The Walt Disney Co. pledged Wednesday to contribute $2 million to restore burned areas and help victims of the Southern California wildfires, while Bank of America pledged $1 million in aid.
Starting Thursday, Disney said it would provide $200,000 in donations to the American Red Cross for immediate relief efforts.

The rest of the money would be distributed later on a case-by-case basis to groups for rebuilding and restoration efforts, which might include replanting trees or replacing burned parks and community centers.

Disney also planned to distribute packages of toys and books for children who have been displaced by the fire and said it would send Disney characters to shelters this week to cheer up youngsters.

Meanwhile, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation announced it would provide $500,000 to the American Red Cross for immediate disaster relief efforts. Another $500,000 will be given to local nonprofit groups to deal with specific needs in their areas, the bank said in a statement.

We had many here in Southern New Jersey, but we call them circles. Luckily though, many of them have been replaced and many more will be replaced in the coming years!!! We have two circles, nearly side by side, about 10 minutes from our house, and I can't stand driving through them.

I am impressed with Disney.:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 While working in the Disney Store, we had to destroy slightly damaged merchandise. :sad2: Disney was afraid to donate as a lawsuit could take place.:rolleyes1

It's what my Doctor is currently billing me to get rid of this nagging cough I've had for three weeks.

No, wait. That's a DEcongestant charge. Never mind.

I hope you are feeling better JR.:flower3::goodvibes The older you get, the harder it is to get rid of illness.:rolleyes1;)

And no one knows how to drive on them, lots of horn blowing....

We have many here in Mass too, but we call them rotaries. Go figure? And as far as I know there are no plans to replace them. None are as busy as that major roundabout in London, but we do have a few with about 4 or 5 exits.

The biggest recorded roundabout in the whole world is in London, or rather around it, ..

Called the M25, the London orbital road is one big roundabout, however in the Guinness's book of world records it was actually recorded as the largest car park in the world.

On a good day you can go around the whole of London either clockwise or Anticlockwise, its your preference, on a bad day its a nice place to have a picnic.

At least out there you guys know how to build them right. They are starting to put roundabouts around here and they make them so small you can hardly drive 15 mph through them. They wanted to put two of them on a fairly busy highway where traffic usually drives 65mph (speed limit is 55 mph) with slow downs to 15 mph to go around them. What a nightmare  Glad I work at home :goodvibes

Thats what they do here, mini roundabouts are used as traffic calming, to slow down traffic in built up residential areas, often motorist drive ''over'' them.

Hi all! Just back home from two weeks with the grandkids. Looks like you have been busy -- over a hundred pages -- no way I'll ever ketchup. Had a great visit with the little ones and an even better week before at Food & Wine with both daughters and my 4 year old DGD. This was her first F & W trip. She really enoyed it. Tried so many different foods I lost track. She even liked the culinary demonstrations (and the samples they served even more). DH saw the Four Tops there on Tuesday and reported that they put on a great show. Well better get back on track and start tackling the piles of work and laundry. DH is off tomorrow so if the weather is nice (60% chance of rain) we'll try for another F & W fix. If not, I'll see you in Chat.

Never drove in London, usually took the underground. The traffic looked terrible and I hate to drive even on the right side of the road (or is that the wrong side of the road :confused3 ). I did love the Brit Rail tour we took. I would like to do that again. We took a week and went from London to Edinborough(?) Scotland. My girls were impressed that we went to Paddington Station. I had to bring them back a Paddington bear. That was a few (well maybe more than a few) years ago though. I am not sure what happened to that bear. I suppose one of my girls still has it. I wanted to bring back a cement hedgehog, but my then DH wouldn't let me.:sad1:

Best not to drive in London unless you have to, Taxis are good the tube is generally good to get around.
