I bought tickets yesterday morning -- it took me 2 min and I had to take upper level!! How is that possible??? And it was the first 2 minutes of Presale!
The kids don't know. They would only allow me to buy 4 during presale so, dh is just very disappointed that he won't be able to go....

It's going to be a surprise for the kids (16dd, 9ds & 6dd). Dh said he'ld get us a limo so, that I don't have to drive at night.

We had a "glitch" in the system here in Oklahoma. Seems when the kids bought there tickets for the OKCity concert,they were sold tickets for a different state! I wanna say Virginia. And of course it's already sold out here.

With this posting I think I'm almost caught up - so I've consolidated most of my ground hog replies here to reduce my posting fluff a little

I want to thank everyone for your thoughts,wishes and prayers.
Life is a strange thing..one minute a family is happy....next sadness...

I look at my nana (my uncle's mom). Nana is in her 90's (she won't tell us her age-she says she 29!) and wonder how she could have the strength to get through so much in her life. Watched her husband go into WW2 and he spent nuch time in the service..she began raising her 11 (yes 11 includes 1 set of triplets!) for a good portion on her own. Buries her husban in the 70's and loses a son in the early 80's. She has been relatively healthy except for a stoke that lead to loss of sight in one eye about 2 years ago. Now she buries in one year a beloved daughter in law and now her first born son. That is what I call strength.

I don't know why I am telling this to all of you. (Maybe to-without embarrassing her-give an amazing woman credit) But you are all such wonderful people. You all give such wonderful support for both the good and the bad. I send you all the wish of good karma..you all deserve it.

Reading your story reminds me of the stories of struggle and sacrifice my parents and FIL + MIL had in thier days. My Dad sometimes speaks of how he met my Mom and getting married in China, then having WW2 bring terrible times to thier lives (running away from the invading Japanese - with some relatives killed by the invaders - then having to turn around and run away from the communists who had a sharp dislike for ex-property owners (My Grandfather on my mothers side had a restuarant in Canada - so sent considerable funds back to China - enough to buy significant land) - only to eventually escape to Hong Kong with a tiny fraction of thier resources, from which they immigrated legally to NY - following my Grandfather who had gone on 1st.

My Dad always reminds us of his first day off Ellis island - when he stepped onto the NY streets and had two immediate sharp realizations... #1) Look at all the cars... they're all new and so clean! ... and #2) Where are the soldiers with rifles and machine guns? And with that he felt he had finally escaped the terrible chaos of the past few years.

There they worked in the sterotypical businesses: the men worked in a Chinese restuarant and my Grandmother and Mom eventually ran a Chinese Laundry. In time my Grandfather became a partner in the restuarant then owned it outright. Which in turn led to purchasing an apartment building among other things in NYC. I still remember the old elevator in that place. Unfortunately, My Dad did not get along with his Dad - so he went to NYU and finished as a mechanical engineer. Then he eventurally followed the aerospace industry to sunny LA. At one point engineering dried up and my Dad grew tired of the relative instability of engineering... so he went into business for himself. First he started a used car lot then shifted into a general merchandise business with a little over 5,000'. This eventually stabilized as a furniture importing concern. He retired from that about 15 years ago after running it 20+years.

My FIL grew up in a rented hut in Thailand. His Dad passed away early and he and his Mom survived selling food stuffs from the road side in his village. I cannot recall fully how, but his brother eventually landed a job with the American Tobacco company and eventually rose to one of the senior managers/execs in Thailand wih ATC. Along the way, his brother paid for schooling for my FIL. He started later in life - being one of the older kids in most of the classes(feling out of place being older). However, through hard earned grades he qualified for admittance into a prestigious medical school in Thailand. Which in turn led to a surgical training rotation in Honolulu, where he met my MIL at the hospital. Then he went on to another training rotation of some sort in Buffalo, NY. About that time they married and started a family out there. My MIL has spoken of how she relocated to NY on the promise from my FIL that they would return o Hawaii (soon). That would not come to pass until 3+ decades had passed in sunny tropical Irwin (Pittsburgh)! At any rate, my FIL speaks of how little they were paid while being worked round the clock back then. Thier hourly pay worked out to a dismal fraction of the average wage then. Paying rent was a huge expense and they scrimped and shaved everywhere to get by.

Eventually, things become much better for both families - but there were many years of thankless toil - and we all have come to apppreciate the sacrifices that are made to enable the next generation get ahead or otherwise. Oh well...

So - when I read of parents or grandparents making sacrifices to get by or get ahead - I sit up and pay attention. It reminds me of the great opportunity we have in the USA - and the VALUE of it - as well as the respect that should be accorded to our elder family members regardless of their actual contributions. MY POINT - I think it's tough all over for nearly everyone. And hence, we have a responsibility to be good examples for those in the family who went before us to get us where we are today.

In some ways - its' tough for even the likes of Paris Hilton... with the shadow she has to walk through as well as what I would consider the humiliation shes' endured recently. I mean - a billionaire yes - and look at what she's cultivating (some kind of reputation?) only to have wrecked it in some ways? Really I have to look upon her current perception to the public and I think shes mostly the laughing stock of immature misconduct among those with money. SO... I think few can truly count thier existance as a perfect cake walk - and to them I nod simple compliments.

At the opposite end of the rainbow from a billionaires' position .... I've paused to chat with a panhandler at our local market - for whom I went back into the market and bought him some hot food from the deli. I eventually tried for years to give him easy work doing things for me - and I tried to help him acquire public assistance - and boy oh boy did he have a messy personal history - and he had complex health problems too. Once I even posted a modest bail for him to get out of jail - and fortunately he showed up for his date in court and the bail was refunded to me. Eventually he seems to have moved on or ??? and it seems I was unable to make a lasting change in his life. So even for those in a situation 180 degrees from Paris Hilton with billions ... it is an imprefect tragic existance. One which persists vitually in our backyard sometimes.

OK... I think I've said enuf fer now ...

All packed for the cruise ship - all my sexiest dresses and make-up.
Really excited.

DEAR DIARY ... DAY TWO
Entire day at sea, beautiful and saw whales and dolphins. Met the
Captain today - seems a very nice man.

DEAR DIARY .. DAY THREE
At the pool today. Also some shuffle boarding and hit golf balls off the
deck. Captain invited me to join him at his table for dinner. Felt honored
and had a wonderful time. He is very attractive and attentive.

DEAR DIARY . DAY FOUR
Won $800.00 in the ship's casino. Captain asked me to have dinner with him in his own cabin. Had a luxurious meal complete with caviar and champagne. He asked me to stay the night but I declined. Told him I could not be unfaithful to my husband.

DEAR DIARY .. DAY FIVE
Pool again today, got sun burnt, went inside to drink at piano bar for
rest of day. Captain saw me, bought me several large drinks. Really is
charming. Again asked me to visit his cabin for the night.Again I
declined. He told me if I didn't let him have his way with me he would
sink the ship.

I was shocked.

Yes, for me its a tight schedule kids go back to School Wednesday 3rd, we get to PC September 1st, so fly out that night arrive September 2nd, I need that flight, I have already booked Disneyland from the 13th, and we have both booked holidays at work so its generally complete,Flight > Disneyland>Cruise>Flight.

In our case - to say it's tight is an understatement since we're missing several days of classes - I think. Or maybe we're just missing a little. Anyways, it's a mess for our schudule to make this "flly" too! Alas, it was judged to be our best compromise.

I wanted to thank everyone for the 9/11 stories the other day. When I started reading them that morning it reminded me I needed to take down my Ohio State flag from our front porch, and replace it with The Stars & Stripes. As proud a Buckeye fan as I am.....The American flag is much more important.

At least you remembered to switch the flag out front. Normaly I would have done so - as we have a flag which is employed for the usual occassions - memorial day, veterans day, etc.,... however, I messed up on this one and missed putting our flag up.

I keep saying we're not doing anything else till the TOAL, but then we bought annual passes in August so how can you NOT use them right? Aaaaand to top that off, NCL is launching their brand new ship the GEM for the first US trip out of Boston on Dec. 15th. It's only a 2 nt cruise to nowhere but also only $786 for a family of 4 for 3 days of all you can eat, drink & be merry fun! This new ship has a bowling alley, 11 bars, 12 restaurants (you get to choose when & where you'd like to eat) and includes an all night cafe.

- we had been laying low on the travel thing to prior to the PC TOAL... but it seems we've now got some trips and diversions scheduled now too. We got the bargain Costa cruise in December and maybe another one my ad wants to take us on in October (?!?!?) or more likely in February next year.

Quick question... Do any of you use a Palm organizer like the Z22 or Tungsten E2? I'm thinking that I have barely managed to keep track of what we are doing when as things curently are and this new PTO responsibility is going to involve a lot more organization. I did some quick searches on the net today and I sort of narrowed it down to these two, but I would love to hear a first hand opinion.

Did I forget to mention I had my 15 minutes of fame??? I am still not sure why but I volunteered for the Indian Jones Show and was picked. It was a full house and something made me stand up. Poor DH didn't even know as I was heading down towards the stage. He took mostly videos but maybe you can still tell it is me. He is still in shock as this is really not me. I just thought why not. I am the one with the blue hooded costume.

Thanks Cheryl. She is doing okay. Got the okay to start driving. She also got the news that her sports career is pretty much over. She has always been on the schools basketball and track teams but the doctor told her no more sports that involve running. EVER! So she is bummed to say the least. We have tried to convince her to take up golf. Even swimming is out they say.

I am saddened to read your news here. I can only hope for the best for your young lady. Golf is a great sport - as I used to play somewhat a number of years ago. One day I hope to take it up again with my spouse as I figure its' something we can do for a long time together outdoors!

It was great to meet you too!! I look forward to spending some time with you next year. We did find the perfect house in Eustis. It was a 3100 hundred square foot house. The same house closer to Disney was $140,000 more. I am hoping the developement will still be there. It is projected to go for 4 years.

Glad to hear your hunt was successfull. Eustice is not too far from us, about 40-45 minutes (I think).

Well now... 3100 sq feet sounds like a nice sized home to me. We've only got 2100 feet or so - and a 3100 foot home is 50% larger and usually 50% more money than our humble place.

Plus, may I add that Congress considering an amendment to our tax codes which would reduce or phase out the mortgage deductability on properties of 3000' or more? I only heard or read something brief about it... so be aware of this potential penalty looming on the horizon. AND - might I add that I think it more likely it will be a graduated effect ... IE, at 3100 feet ou lose a small portion of deductability... and with a 6000 home you might lose all of the deductabilityon any mortgage for the home.

No guarantees though... do your own due dillengence investigation on this if it matters to you.

I just dont see this law ever passing.

How does one measure square footage (which is a hot topic in the NYC apt market)? Is it from the outside dimenstion of your house, inside dimesions, how about basements that are finished or attics?

But like many tax laws... the politicians always talk about tax simplification, but they just keep on making it more and more complicated.

Keeps demand high in my field!

I loved your family's story. It brought tears to my eyes. I am a third generation American. My father's family came over from Germany. My grandparents didn't speak english until they started school.

I find strength in how strong our (everyone's) ancesters were -- to leave the *known* for the *unknown*. And in some cases to leave horrific situations. To do this to improve their families life -- not just for themselves but, for the betterment of everyone's life.

HOLEY GUACAMOLE!!! I had no idea she was that popular!!

From all the concerts that have gone on sale so far she has sold out in Presale -- from pots that I have read about people trying to buy tickets. One woman posted that she tried 45mins after Presale opened and they were sold out at her venue! Dh joined the Miley fan club just to be able to get a presale code! LOL!

I bought tickets this past Wednesday as soon as presale opened and ended up with Balcony seats -- My tickets were officially *bought* 2 minutes after Presale opened. And that's the best I could get!

I have been on stage twice in my life and both were Disney!!! Last year I was on stage dancing on the cruise. I guess i like making a fool out of myself only with Disney.

I think my dd has pics of you on the cruise..... I'm sorry I never got out to the *bars* and missed all of that! LOL! Michael got hold of Katherine's camera and deleted the pics and video of him on stage!
