OK, now I think I might be flying to DC at the end of the month. I can schedule 3 real interviews with people I've had good phone interviews with, & I might be able to narrow our house hunt down to an area or two by driving around.
I can stay with friends & I can get a down-right bargain basement $500 flight, which I am totally justifying by figuring if it gets me a job a few days earlier, then it has paid for itself. Plus, I can't figure out how to go to job interviews this summer while to kids are home with me & I really don't want to pay for day care until I'm actually employed. Life just keeps getting more complicated doesn't it?
We've decided (at least this week) that we can't really look for a house until I know where I am working. My kids are in school, but I have no interest in both of us being 1-1.5 hours away from them all day.
Oh and I think I really, really, really want one of the jobs I am going to interview for while I'm there...
I still say if you wait that nice white building with the pillars and the lawn downtown D.C. will have a vacancy next November.
I guess you're different than my wife and I -- we only feel safe if we are at least an hour away from our children. Makes it real hard for the school to call say "DD has the sniffles, can you come pick her up".
Good luck with the interviews.
