]Good Tuesday Morning:surfweb: fellow mateys!!pirate:

Hope everyone has a "great" day.:thumbsup2

I wonder how the people are enjoying the tranatlantic trip. I am so jealous of them. Can you imagine 6 days at sea crossing the Atlantic? I am sure they are all having a "MAGICAL" time. I wish I were with them. You can never get enough "Disney"!!!

My name is Karen and I am a Disaholic and proud of it!!!!

Well Karen...

... in case you hadn't noticed some of us run a regular "sprint" for thye 1000th posings. We call it the 'pirated posting" or... rather.... those who attain the 1000th postings gain mild notariety. AND those attaining the 10,000th postings gain "Pirate" status. It's all fun an' games with a sprinkling of silly whimsy. And as such we have a 1000th posting drawing near. At this hour of the morning there should not be too much competition. In fact I am almost never up at this hour - but here I am... :confused3 ... lurking in ambush... <chuckles>

I am working on getting the 1000th post! I hope I can get one before TOAL!!

Karen(Disaholic)

Good Morning all.

Yes, I am in the office. Yesterday afternoon turned in to the Monday from HE**. Constant interuptions. Why do people who have Ph.D at the end of their name turn absolutely stupid at times? (Sorry to those you of you here with your doctorates. You're fellow pirate: and have some common sense and exceptional good taste. ) I never was able to finish the report I was working on. So at 5:15, I surrendered and went to the gym. Then last night I got an e-mail from my Sister. She's coming up for a weekend next month. I'd rather take a Friday off and spend the day with her. So, here I sit.

DWTS- great show. I think the judges were smart in letting the viwers decide who stays/goes. All four were great. I thought Apollo was the best.

Crash - your wife is not too far from me. I work in the New Brunswick area.

Ok, I have got to finish this report. I'm also waiting for DVC MS to open. I decided to take a long weekend and do F/W.

Be back later.

Good Morning all. I have been very busy planning the 9/8 cruise. That DIS group is not as large as this one. But we continue to grow with newcomers showing up all the time. After we get back in September I will have a little more time to play on this thread. I just can't find the time with work, family, and trying to have a social life here. I do continue to read a few post here and there. Just don't have the hours to stay caught up at this point.

Hope all had a wonderful Mother's Day. Later, Lois

Morning all. It's good to be reading close to the 24 hour mark for a change this morning. My Mother's Day was pretty nice even though I wasn't feeling well. The kids woke me up with chocolate chip pancakes & OJ. They were giggling at the idea of me eating breakfast in bed since food is taboo upstairs. LOL! They gave me a pretty Mickey card and a nice Mickey watch with Mickey heads inbetween the links. :goodvibes

Scary thing is, there are parts of New Jersey that don't have indoor plumbing and have bears in back yard.....

Same thing here in NC. :rolleyes1

As long as you can honestly answer that you are not changing your name for fraud... no problem...

Noone even THOUGHT the word fraud! They are changing their name to be on the TOAL! :lmao:

We're Iowa-ish, Juneau is South Carolina-ish.

See what you can learn on the Dis?

I had no idea! That looks a lot bigger than TX or CA in size. Learn something new everyday!

WOW! I grew up in Bridgewater and work right down the road! My parents and sister are still there! I live in Hillsborough, which is only 20 minutes south. Small world!

Really small world, I'm outside Trenton, another 1/2 hour south, plus there's a bunch of other current and former "Jersey'ans" on this thread.....

Hi.. before I go off to ketchup on the last 100 or so pages..

I am thinking of adding DDP to our trip this July-August..

So anyone have experence to share with -

Kona Cafe
Wolfgang Puck Cafe
Concourse Steakhouse
OHana
Coral Reef
Boma
Mama Melrose
Le Cellier

Thanks be back soon

We have only been to Boma. FANTASTIC FOOD...and I am a picky eater. If you aren't, there would be even more for you to choose from. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I second that, totally amazing..........:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

This is the first season where the final 4 have been so good & scored so high! I wish that we could just keep watching them dance every week...especially Apollo and his partner. :cool1:

I haven't read that book, but I know enough about it to agree with the general premise. We have a nice house, I have a nice car (saved $12,000 by buying 1-year used & we drive them until they die!). I even have nice clothes, I'm just not into labels. I won't buy clothes at WalMart (wait, I don't buy anything at WalMart!), but I'm not terribly impressed with designer labels, although I will pick up the bargain big label jeans at Costco!

It's a matter of personal priorities. I spend money on the things that are important to me. We go on a nice vacation at least once a year, we save a pretty high % for retirement, our kids will be able to go to college without student loans (at least that's the plan so far). We go out to dinner. We go out for a really nice ($$$$) dinner a few times a year, I don't drink cheap wine or beer or coffee (but I make the coffee at home), I don't use a cheap camera, we spend roughly a gabillion dollars on hockey each year, I buy excellent quality kitchen items, because those things are important to us...OK me! Getting my clothes from Nordys isn't important to me.

If I get to be a millionaire someday because of it...cool!!!!!!

(although I'm not holding my breath!)

ITA that you have to have your priorities straight. We have never had a new car but also have 4 vehicles and a 19' bayliner. I can now say that we not only don't have a car payment...we also do not have a house payment. The CC is paid off every month. There are a lot of things that we could have or do but we choose not to. I have been struggling on PB&J and Mac & cheese in college putting myself through school and do not want my kids to have to experience it to that extent.

The book cites how the average millionaire in the late 80s/early 90s was typically "so and so". And usually not a flashy "so and so". Also, it went on to describe the likely occupations, background and the habits of them. Also, it suggested the usual amount of savings adujsted for age and varying income could suggest who was on track to join this group. I think it was citing the average millionaire had something like $1.6 or $2.5M and was in their mid 50s and married over 20 years. Vaguely I recall they characterized them as "prodigous accumulators of wealth" or "PAWS". And to be a PAW you had to have double (or more) of the average expected of someone in your income bracket and age. To find this "average" - simply take your gross income (before deductions) multiplied against your age divideed by 10. So ... if you were 45 and grossed say ... $75,000 then the average "index" was $337,500 of savings which was expected of someone with this background. And to be considered on track your savings (excluding primary residence) had to be = or greater then double this - or $675,000. And to be a "SUPER PAW" you had to exceed this significantly!

What I also found of interest in the book was how they broke out ethnic backgrounds in citing some groups (cohorts) as more likely to be millionaires. And some groups were well represented. While curiously, some groups were totally absent. In particular... I noticed how there was NO DATA on Asians, African Americans, or Hispanics. I guess thier surveys were not deisgned to compensate for ethnic variences or mayb e thier clients were not trying to market to that strata of the market. Which seems kind of dumb given the size of these markets and thier obvious financial power. On the other hand - I cannot see many Asians pausing to respond to thier surveys on personal finance. I think of my parnets and how reserved they always were. They came to the US after escaping the ravages of the WW2 and the civil war in China with the victorious Communists PURGING the wealthy and educated masses. Not a good thing if your family were land owners with western based business interests... as mine was. So - having arrived and reestablished themselves after a hard fought journey - ANY immigrant family is likely to be cautious. Thus - responding to a survey (for a crisp $100 bill) is pretty silly.

On the other hand... "I" was invited to participate in an automobile focus survey for $100 and I gave up an hour to earn my money. They had me look over a Mercedes 300E, Lexus 300ES, Volvo (?), BMW 5 series, Cadillac Cimmaron, and an Audi. I did a test drive on all of them, walked around with queries on what I thought from every angle on each vehicle... inside and out... then at the end of the survey they asked me if I would give them another 30 minutes to answer more questions on color panels and texture samples... if they paid me another $50. I figured the before tax value was so-and-so ... and I had time as my office was just a few hundred yards away... so I stayed. <chuckles> This survey was sponsored by Audi as I recall... as I noticed there was a slight emphasis on some queries which seemed to exhibit slightly more intense attention on the Audi. Of course, I could be wrong and it could have just been a "red herring" thrown in to conceal the true sponsor of the survey.

As such... I have never been tapped for a "Millionaire Survey".... awww shucks... that must mean I fail to meet the criteria for one of "them".... <chuckles>.

Oh yeah... on your replies above... ITA as well! I drive an "old" Lexus (the modest sized 300ES) which was bought used at a bargain price... it was my spouses' personal fleet car (she won it in a sales incentive challenge) ... and its' now 9 years old... and running well. Plus the home we live in is a nice neighborhood. Nothing too ritzy (no live guard gates) and nothing fancy in my opinion. Plus the size and age of the home is nothing fancy... at 2100 feet and 30 years old. Plus, we've resisted the temptation to step up to something newer, or bigger or better located. So our cost basis and mortgage levels (yes we have a mortgage... we're in California... remember?) are relatively modest. I wish we did not have a mortgage ... but that's not for a few years, yet.

And for dining and material pursuits... I think we are "active" in these catagories - but we are also very frugal in using coupons, buying on sale and usually deep discount... and we try to pursue quality in substance - and not subjective quality as in "name" brand alone. As for travel... we used to be more active without the kids - and now we've slowed down considerably. Otherwise - I think we're like most folks.

So... I am not shy about standing on a soap box and proclaiming - being frugal is a good thing! And DISNEY CRUISES are a total BARGAIN!!! .... given what we get! Now don't go and tell the DCL management of finance people that otherwise they're likely to go and shave us a little closer with the next round of cruise fares!

Here's a wikipedia link on TMND http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Millionaire_Next_Door Enjoy the ride...

The big question for me is.....will we wait until the DVD comes out this time?

I bought my tickets for Thursday night already....(8:00pm);)

and you guys could dress up too ...see what a good time you will have
pirate:

DH is being difficult with the dressing up. I may have to have him walk the plank.

My nail polish lasts about 3 weeks(I use my own OPI colors)

I love OPI polish.... Totally worth the $7 a bottle.... I can buy the cheaper stuff but when i do i end up have to touch up or repolish every 3-4 days so it's kinda a waste.

With OPI i can get a week easy...

Good Morning all.

....

Crash - your wife is not too far from me. I work in the New Brunswick area.

...

Well...

... if ya spot someone looking like my spouse (image below) in one of your local restuarnts or hotels then wave and yell... "Hey Mighty Mouse" (a childhood nick name on account of her BEATING UP some bigger boys who might not have deserved her thrashin' 'em).... or just say "Hey"... <Alicia>...

And if ya spot her doing any POWER SHOPPING in any local malls or department stores - yell "HEY! ... your husband says go buy some <more> luggage so you have enough carrying capacity for that junk!!!"

I love the names they come up with for the polish. My two favorites are Not So Bora-Bora Pink and Cabo San Lilac(which they don't make anymore). right now I am wearing Far East Fuschia.

Hey, I just looked and noticed your town! I drive through Pennington to get my son at TCNJ all the time! Nice area!

Here are a couple pictures from DS's first communion...even though the priest said no photos. Sorry but we got there way early & others had their cameras out and we were in the front row. I turned off the flash BTW & held the camera low so he didn't even see it. ;)

Somehow DS got in the front and center position for the group picture...surrounded by pretty girls.

Okay ...I have to ask ...Is "Ducky" gay ??? I mean the matching cumberbund and skirt half to be a hint ...I am not saying this is a bad thing , I am just asking :confused3

pirate:

wondercruise2006326.jpg

Geroge (Ducky'sfriend) is wearing the kilt. They met at a pub in Scotland years and years ago. They became best friends. Ducky is not gay and has a wife and children. I do not think the wife travels with him.:confused3 Ducky usually has his own entourage with him.

How about two of these?

Hey Crash that would be a good start. I really do not like the heads or bodies on them. :sad2: I am drooling right now with a little dish of melted butet.:woohoo:

I think they are all good but Apollo and his partner are the best.:thumbsup2 I think they deserved perfect scores yesterday. The cha cha was best!!!
