WTH?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

The friggin' weathergoon was just on TV and they are forecasting potential BLIZZARD conditions starting tomorrow night!!!! :scared1: They are calling for 9"-18" of SNOW but since we live right next to the Palmer Divide we'll get the worst of the fronts from the north and south!:sad2:

Well, at least I'll get the day off ;)

Yikes . .please stay warm . . race to the grocery to stock up on bread and milk (Okay that's what happens in VA if they forecast ANY snow!). Don't feel too bad. Our baseball games were called on Saturday on account of the 1/2 inches we had! Most snow we've had in 3 years. May I send my DS10 to your place with his snowman building kit that his aunt gave him THREE Christmas's ago . . . he could build a nice snowman and then you could send him home

Rut roh Raggy.......

The EB Repo was too long to wait.....we were getting DCL withdrawl symptoms bad. So.......we just signed up for the Oct 6th Magic Western Carribean 7 nighter pirate:

Now there's two topics for me to ketchup with every night :rotfl2:

I've been wondering how I could convince DH that we need to do that again in January. He's got this crazy year of tests and studying . . . ummmm We need a vacation. Can't wait to head to Nags Head, NC for Memorial Day. We rented a house there last year with some friends. We're all going again.

Don't forget the eggs! Remember, blizzard = french toast

45 and sunny in Eagle River tomorrow

OMG!!! Do you have a school board that governs the school district????? I use to camp out at the school board when I did not like what was going on. I was a real pain in their ****side. Maybe it is time to stir:stir: up a little trouble and contact the local paper. Education is the key to all the doors of life.:flower3: I hope you wrote all over the little bubbles.:woohoo:

And also start tossing out the terms they fear most: charter school and vouchers!

DW and I thought it odd that several families back in NM were homeschooling...until we found out how bad most of the schools there were in terms of student performance! In fact, our old ST babysitter decided on her own to drop the local high school and do online self-study via a certified online school. You know things are bad when a ST takes it upon herself to find a better way forward for her education! Part of her reason for dropping too is that she didn't "fit" with crowd that the teachers paid most attention to: yuppie, clean cut, Buffy & Chaz types. Something to do with her magenta-highlighter hair, fondess of Goth etc. Mind you, she's a great kid and DS loved her dearly. But most were too quick to judge based on her looks.

Well folks . . gotta finish a bit of work and then it's time to sleep for me . . hopefully it will only rain enough to help the flowers, but not enough to cancel baseball . . see ya'll later!

Where we live is one of the largest homeschooling areas of the country . . . LOL We also have a huge number of private schools If I were moving here, I'd be questioning why that is . . . one of the nice things about homeschooling is that you can pick where you live based on the neighborhood and price, not just on the quality of schools (which many are forced to do here . . .)

Okay now I'm really going to get some work done . . .

It's that old dog, new tricks thing. First, I'd be too embarrassed to take the classes. Second, I'd be too scared.

Speaking of old and embarrassed...there were 3 of us in the class. In the next lane was a group of 7-9 year olds (the very ones I was afraid of being in a class with) and their instructor had them doing all kinds of things in the water! Like a bunch of otters they were! But they were cool watching us old fogeys give it a go!

Just remember, you won't drown! I haven't gotten over that completely but the fact that my instructor is an ocean-certified lifeguard, swims competetively, there are 4 other lifeguards roaming around the pool AND they have some fancy imaging system that monitors the bottom of the pool for people not moving, well, I figure nothing bad could really happen ;)

Too bad he had to go tend to his girls. I hope they are both feeling better this morning, Tom.

Actually,
I'm still limited to accessing the internet with my spouses' computer since MY computer is being fixed (ready fopr pick up on saturday when I drive by on my way home from Vegas). And my spouse usually takes her notebook when she leaves for work. The new coputer for the kids has a wifi antenna but I have not gotten it to work properly yet. I blame the new Vista OS.

Plus - I did take one of my girls to the doc today. He said it was a continuation of her earlier ear infection - so he perscribed a different anti-biotic. Something asuuredly more powerful than omnicef... I forgot what it was she is now taking.

TOmorrow we head out fer Vegas - and I'll be off the boards again tomorrow and this friday (the 13th) through saturday.

Oh well... back to my attempt at catchin' up... it's not so tough except my spouses' firewall keeps dropping the connection every 5 minutes... what a pain. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't and now it is doin' it.

Okay, since it seems like some of us (many of us) are disgruntled employees currently, how's about a funny work email I received:

I'm in HR? How about YOU??

Job Placement Aptitude Test

1. Put 400 bricks in a closed room.

2. Put your new hires in the room and close the door.

3. Leave them alone and come back after 6 hours.

4. Then analyze the situation:

If they are counting the bricks, put them in the Accounting Department.

If they are recounting them, put them in Auditing.

If they have messed up the whole place with the bricks, put them in Engineering.
 Hey now!!!!

If they are arranging the bricks in some strange order, put them in Planning.

If they are throwing the bricks at each other, put them in Operations.

If they are sleeping, put them in Security.

If they have broken the bricks into pieces, put them in Information Technology.

If they are sitting idle, put them in Human Resources.

If they say they have tried different combinations, they are looking for more, and yet not a brick has been moved, put them in Sales.

If they have already left for the day, put them in Marketing.

If they are staring out of the window, put them in Strategic Planning.

If they are talking to each other, and not a single brick has been moved, congratulate them and put them in Top Management.
:thumbsup2 Agreed!!!!

5. Finally, if they have surrounded themselves with bricks in such a way that they can be neither seen nor heard from, put them in Congress.

Management v. Engineering

A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost.

He reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted,

“Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am.”

The woman below replied, “You are in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You are between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude.”

“You must be an engineer,” said the balloonist.

“I am,” replied the woman, How did you know?”

“Well,” answered the balloonist, “everything you told me is, technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I am still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help so far.”

The woman below responded, “You must be in Management.”

“I am,” replied the balloonist, “but how did you know?”

“Well,” said the woman, "you don't know where you are or where you are going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault”.

OK, can someone please help me out here, as there is NO way I can read ~50,000 entries - I was looking for some info/feedback on this cruise. We'd be interested in taking this cruise (submitted a quote request to DU) - is it too late for a decent cabin, or is it more that most of these posts from the same group of people "sharing"? I have to say, this thread is rather intimidating for someone interested in joining in on this cruise!

NO! You MUST read them all!

Those who fall behind get left behind! ehhh me maties? pirate:

 Seriously, don't be frightened, we don't bite...much.

But if it's any consolation, welcome aboard! :cheer2:

I'm in Finance Management. We sell 200 of the bricks and tell Engineering they still have to build the same structure under the orginal cost estimates ...... in half the time.

Easy peasy! Build it, if it stands, take the credit and move on to the next project. If it fails, pull out the REAMS of documentation and blame marketing ;)

Thanks fwe the B-day wishes. I DO appreciate your congratualtory thoughts! And on the winner having the most T-shirts.... well... I got a long way to go before I can compete with ANYONE on that front. The last bike race I was in was a fund raiser for MS - a 200 mile bike ride from Orange County to San Diego. I got HIT by a car at the 87 mile point and broke my left hip and right wrist. Plus a $$$+ bike was wrecked! I don't regret riding to raise money to help others - I DO have regrets at being hit by someone who had been in an accident only 60 days earlier - and had no insurance. Fortunately, I had a little uninsured motorist coverage which paid me a maximum claim - which was enough to cover my medical bills and leave some consulaton funds for my lost time.

YIKES!!! Glad you were OK...eventually.
We have lots and lots of trails here. One parallels the highway for about 15 miles (at a same distance from the road). The only catch is that I can't ride my racing bike - too much muck and slush, so I'm riding my mountain bike. Not ideal for speed. Yeah, that's it, I can blame the bike.

Well...

... it took about half a year before I was cleared to work again. In the final month of recovery I took 3.5 weeks to backpack through some of Europe. I hit in the order visited... London, Madrid, Lisbon, Barcelona, The French Riviera (Nice/Monaco), Geneva then Paris via TGV train. Even though I was maybe 90-95% recovered fro the broken hip and wrist - I went with a 4000 cubic inch backpack. I did even splits between youth Hostels, Pensions, and regular hotels. I was still pretty youthful 20-21 years ago when I did this - so I still "fit in".

So from my accident I still have slight pain from my wrist (I don't like to bowl much anymore)... and I have a large titanium bolt and washer buried in my hip with some loss of feeling on the leg due to the surgical incision cutting some nerves which never recovered. Aside from that... I have full range of motion and no real pain... and NO... I don't set off metal detectors at the airport... but I imagine the bolt might show up on the new backscatter X-ray security scanners being installed in airports now. I used to ride a Vitus aluminum bike (French) with a full Shimano DuraACE Gruppo, and my wheels were Mavic Sew ups. I was one of THOSE riders with clipless pedals ... as THAT was the latest thing then. As was the Bell V-1 pro helmet. That helmet saved my life too. I was hit perpendicular while in a descent going about 40-44 on my pedometer. As I was hit I thrown diagonal off my handle bars (broke my hip) and into another car waiting to turn (that broke my wrist and helmet I think). I was IN the bicycle lane and in a long line of riders that spread out a bit in the descent. The guy that hit me was a young idiot who tried to CUT ACROSS the stream of riders to enter a driveway. I was the one unlucky rider out of 1600 in the ride. We had motorcycle escorts watching at the intersections in loose escort of the main pack - but NOT at driveways.

At any rate.... I'm alive today and nominally functional. I could have been a vegetable or worse.

Hey Captain Crash...

Hope it was a good one!

You did NOT forget ... a it was I who neglected to notify LISA... and I have been technically challenged with my regular electronic "ride" sidelined with a failing hard drive.

Just the same... Thank You for your "Charming" ... (get it?) animation!

<chuckles>

And thanks again MICMSE2003... It's always nice to get a HAPPY B-Day wish - belated or otherwise it always feels good. Cheers!...

I am so sorry we did not know!!!:sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

Happy Belated Birthday!!!!

I didn't know what pork roll was either, and from the way Theresa made it sound, I thought it might be like a pizza roll only filled with pork. Maybe because I make pork potstickers that are to die for if I do say so myself. Anyhow since I love googling so much here is what I found:

Taylor ham is the common name for pork roll, a food developed by John Taylor of Trenton, New Jersey, late in the 19th century.

Taylor is the brand name for pork roll made by Taylor Provisions, Inc., of Trenton. Taylor also manufactures pork roll under the Trenton brand. Trenton by Taylor has been an advertiser on the outfield wall at Mercer County Waterfront Park in Trenton since it opened in 1994. Other companies making pork roll include Kohler Provisions and Loeffler Gourmet.

The product is generally eaten sliced and grilled, like Canadian bacon. A slice fits neatly on a round roll, and it is frequently eaten as part of a breakfast sandwich, most often also including egg and cheese.

Pork roll generally comes in one-, three-, and six-pound sizes, as well as six-ounce boxes containing eight single-thickness slices or four double-thickness slices. The product is seldom available for retail or restaurant sale outside of New Jersey and adjoining areas like Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. However, a message board posting in 2004 showed that Taylor ham had been located at a supermarket in Valdosta, Georgia. There are also marketers selling pork roll on the Internet and shipping it around the United States.

As far as I'm concerned, pork roll is a step up from scrapple and tied with Spam! What's scrapple you ask? Well, you know what goes into a hot dog? Grind up the stuff that's left over and viola! Scrapple!

Here's a great story.

My middle DD was in the Middle School Chorus. In order to get an "A" in that class, you only had to be in school and at chorus class every day. She had a solid "A". It was time for the Christmas chorus program. DD was sick, sick, sick. She had strep throat, fever and was also sick to her stomach. I kept her home from the concert. Her teacher gave her an "F" for the ENTIRE course!
I called the teacher, and was told that it was an "All or nothing" grade. She said if they didn't show up for the concert, the "rule" was, they got an instant "F". She went on to tell me that one girl and her father got into a car accident on the way to the concert, and that girl also got an "F" for not being there!:headache: :headache:
So my reasoning was that the kids could not show up for class all year, but show up for the concert, and still get an "A"?????
Of course, I called the principal, gave them a note from Jordan's doctor, and the grade was changed to a "C". I still wasn't happy, but they wouldn't budge any further than that.

Wow...

... nows that's kind of annoying in a petty way if you ask me... or so it seems... :confused3

So THAT'S why you're called captaincrash!!! :lmao:

And what happened to the Shleprock doofus that hit you? Slap on the wrist? Better yet, did the driver sue you for causing damage to the car? :sad2:

bike_crash.gif

Actually...

... my "old' nickname of CC was from another "incident". And... the fellow that hit me was judgement proof - so my counsel says. I've had an asset search run and let himgo without incident. I don;t know for sure - but he hit someone else just a couple months before he hit me... so he already had no insurance. And I don't know if he had insurance when he hit the other guy. Nor do I know whether any injury was involved - however I know it was a significant accident.

So no... he didn't try to sue me. But this reminds me of another story ....

My Aunte was assaulted one Christmas at the shopping mall. The asailant knocked her down - siezed her car keys and tried to drive off in her Acura Legend. However, my Auntes' loveable 130 pound pit bull saw the whole thing as he was in the back of the car! The would be thief was immedietely siezed by Buddy and held and bleeding IN the car right there. AND... would you believe it if I told you Buddy was raised to be gentle as a lamb with people but he really hated other dogs? So - you could sort of trust Buddy around people all the time - except on THIS occassion he made an exception in his conduct. And to Buddys' credit - he did not KILL the assailant.

So... this thief tried to sue my aunte. She went to court where the judge abruptly threw it out of court. However, now-a-days I don't know if our liberal Democratic skewed judges would throw these kind of cases out. As - they might want to HEAR it - to see if the defense knows it's legal dances.... so to speak. Can you tell... I tend to have a conservative view on things - with a couple of "liberal" exceptions? I'll leave it at that for now to avoid raisin' a ruckus. :surfweb:

Good morning Neighbor!

I am peaked with interest about Brophy Bros! In all our years we've never noticed this place before and it sure sounds exciting to try! So we'll have to give it a swing some time soon!

That looks amazing!

Well...

... What I think is REALLY amazing is the size of this whopper of a 5+ pound lobster - and the fact that my size ZERO PETITE spouse ate the whole thing!
