Diane...

this is one of my older daughters' FAVORITE songs from West Side Story!

That was a great deal!!!!:woohoo: Yes United is asking for extra fee for baggage but we bought before the new rule!! :yay: I could not imagine 1 suitcase for 15 nights.

flying.gif

Cheryl,

Maybe your husband flies enough to have some flight status/preference? Alicia flies enough to have a little preference on Uniteds' frequent flier system so we get to check 2 (or more?) bags. We'll be booking our fares today it seems on UAL rom MCO to LAX. A paltry $180 to gain a few miles with our flight to boot.

Well today is urber busy.. got lots to pick up for the ceremony and making dome of the food.. I have a meat trayplus fruit and veggie trays, so i thought I'd do a pasta salad, and jello mold, and then a bean thing so my vegatarian ( sp) sister and BIL can eat..Then i want to make lemon squares, picking up the cake and cookies, but I think I'll do a chocolate oatmeal peanut butter thing too and brownies and if I have time between the cooking and cleaning and laundry I'll do choclate covered strawberries..

off to start the marathon.. talk soon..

Good Morning All :surfweb:

Susan - you are cooking all that in one day - you are SuperWoman!!!

So, I just ordered a couple of books off Amazon. On of them was "Get Out of My Life, but First Can You Drive Me and Cheryl to the Mall". That title just about sums up, in one line, where DD's head is at these days. I really need help understanding why everything has to be so negative and stratagies to deal with it, 'cause I just don't get it.

That is a cool name for a book . ..LOL My DS is only 13 and we see much of the lack of self control with his mouth. Instead of the mall, it's drive me to YET ANOTHER baseball practice or to CAP (civil air patrol). These are great activities and will produce good things for him latter in life. IN the meantime I wish he could learn more about speaking a KIND word to someone (especially his little brother).

I've heard some friends say that you just hold on and pray while they're teens. Hopefully all the things you have instilled in them will come back them again once they hit their 20's :)

Have a wonderful day!

Funny I was on Amazon this morning ordering my Passporter now its in stock in the UK, and a Disneyland book.

HI folks --

Does anyone know if we can return our rental car at Port of LA?? Which car rental place is closed and has a shuttle back? I know in Cape Canaveral, we always use Budget b/c it is closest.

DH is beginning to concede that we're going to have to rent a car. My little sister lives in Venice, just bought a new house, and I think she'll be LIVID that we're only 1 hour away and not willing to come see her. I know it's a lot of driving, but it will be worth it so I don't have to hear for the rest of my life that I was so close and didn't come to see her (even though she was only 2 hours away from me at Christmas and didn't come by! - trying to sow some good seeds . . .LOL)

Thanks for your help during this family crisis . . .LOL

Have a super day!

G'mornin' pirate:s

So the down side of getting up at 0:dark30 during the week is that it happens on the weekends too...

I'm all ketched up & every one here is sleeping. Guess I'll go for a run.

If it's any consolation, SK8INGMOM, it works the other way, too. If you stay up late and get up late, you do that on weekends, too (and more so).

Enjoy your day!

Your books sound like they are more fun to read than mine :rotfl:

I used Enterprise. It was the only option for me with office at both Long Beach airport and San Pedros. The 6th Street location is open 9-Noon. THey also charged me a $40 drop off fee. They do have a free shuttle to the port.

I had to buy a Norton security upgrade for the PC, and I thought, well adding the Disney books gets free shipping, so basically they paid for themselves.

Then the Mrs, said she wants a book so I added that to the order as well.

Have to keep her happy,:worship: part of an early Birthday pressie.

I got "Panama Fever by Matthew Parker" last week and will be starting next week. It was just released a couple of weeks ago and I am hoping that it is a good read.

Parker begins this engrossing narrative of the construction of what Theodore Roosevelt called one of the great works of the world well before the 20th century: everyone from Benjamin Franklin to Goethe was interested in a trans-isthmus canal, and one of the most arresting sections of the book chronicles the failed French efforts, in the late 1800s, to build one. Roosevelt then called for the building of a canal in his first address to Congress. The project faced countless challenges, but Parker is especially deft when addressing the racism that magnified already appalling working conditions. Those in charge didn't want to hire white American workers, who were too expensive and too unionized (though later, whites were hired), and the discussions about workers became racialized. The native Isthmian was too indolent, but black workers from the British West Indies were viewed as cheap and expendable. U.S. authorities discriminated racially, paying workers unequally and trying, in general, to prevent the intermingling of the races. This is not a narrow history of mechanical engineering but a well-researched and satisfying account of imperial vision and social inequity.

Good Morning Roger!

Here are a couple of hot "local" tips for ya,

On T.O. blvd they have a Ferrari Mondial - 1981 in white with only 18,000 miles - across from the FedEx/Kinkos for only $40K (asking) ... which I'm asking Alicia fer for my birthday - which is looming on the morrow. And regretfully, I'm not getting much sympathy from her even though the Mondial has 4 seats - enuf fer the kids.

affordable exotics said:
Although the concept of an affordable Ferrari sounds unlikely, there are a number of models that can be had for the price of less prestigious sports cars. New Porsche Boxsters, BMW Z-4s and Honda S2000s sell in the mid-thirties to low fifties, and there are used Ferraris that can be had in that same range, or even less. However, repairing or restoring any Ferrari re-defines expensive, and can be many times that of a Corvette, Mercedes or Porsche. A simple rebuild on a Ferrari V-8 can quickly exceed $12,000, while a V-12 can run double that or more, so leave plenty of extra cash in the bank for unpleasant surprises. Here are some of the best buys (along with a few models to avoid). .. [ed]...

Ferrari Mondial (1980-1993)
Although criticized for its bland styling and modest performance, the Mondial cabriolet is one of the cheapest Ferrari convertibles, plus it has four useful seats. The Mondial was a sporty 2+2 for the country club set, decried by Ferrari traditionalists, but popular with more sedate drivers. Mondials shared engines with whatever two-seat Ferrari was also in production at the time. The first Mondials (1980 to 1981) had the anemic engine also used in the 308 GTBi/GTSi models, but was far heavier so performance can best be described as tepid. In 1982 the QV engine perked things up some and in 1985 the 328 engine made the Mondial almost adequate. The final evolution was the Mondial t (1989-1993), which used the muscular engine from the Ferrari 348 to make the Mondial come alive. More cabriolets were sold than coupes, with a total of 6,104 Mondials of all types sold. The high production numbers and lackluster performance have kept Mondial prices in the thirties, with the Mondial t selling in the mid-forties.

And tip #2... next saturday is Colonial Day at the Reagan Library. As yet we've not atteneded one of these funcctions - and don't know if or what special things will be given out. As ya kno in the past we've picked up Magic Mountian passes and nice embroidered basball caps with the CVN Ronald Reagan on it. Those caps were not cheap versions either - but the real McCoy with nice quality. Of course, aside from any free things given there are also a wide variety of activities for the kids and usually family oriented entertainment. Last year one of the functions featured a really good magician.

At any rate.... hope everyones' saturday shapes up into something nice! I gotta go start breakfast goin' now...

HI Folks --

I had been reading earlier posts about receiving your cruise kit so I want to throw my hat into the ring with those that HAVE. The two boys were fired up and read it cover to cover . . .LOL

Have a super weekend all!!

I showed the book to my kids & said "Here read this" & they looked at me like I had 2 heads! Nope not interested! :confused3

My DB lives in Burbank, but I told him we wouldn't have a car so I bribed him & DW to come to DL & we'd buy them dinner. Beats driving in the LA area! That would just freak DH right out! He really doesn't do great in the car when in unfamiliar territory and it certainly doesn't help when I drive. Even though I'm an excellent driver, he can't relax. That's why WDW & cruises work so great for us...no driving required!

I had to buy a Norton security upgrade for the PC, and I thought, well adding the Disney books gets free shipping, so basically they paid for themselves.

Then the Mrs, said she wants a book so I added that to the order as well.

Good advice Andrew! Always keep the wives happy! Hear that DHs!!! :goodvibes

I'm going to buy "Mistaken Identity" because there was an episode on Oprah the other day about this & it was quite an interesting story. I kept wanting to know more, but of course they keep you wanting more so you'll buy the book!

"Meet Laura Van Ryn and Whitney Cerak: one buried under the wrong name, one in a coma and being cared for by the wrong family."

When is Susan's birthday, Andrew? Is it near yours?

That sounds really interesting, Roger -- I will have to check it out.

Yesterday on chat, someone posted a link to the MAY Repo page.

They had a cool ship map with DIS Member cabin highlighted - you could click on the cabin and a box popped up with the member's info. Anyone more computer literate know if we can do that? Obviously, once the majority of us are not GTY. :rotfl2:

That does sound cool. My DW knows how to do it, but I know she doesn't have the time (she's working on her PhD and 3 adjunct professor positions). I'd be happy to see if she can give me pointers to do it if noone else knows.
