Maybe before the end of this school year, you can talk to their teacher and get something arranged they can work on before the trip. Sometimes they will work with you and it doesn't hurt to ask.:)

We don't get teacher assignments until early to mid-August. I may not even know which teachers my kids have before we leave for DL!

DH will speak to the principal about the trip. This one is his job since I handle all of the day-to-day school stuff. ;) The only problem is that he's too chicken to tell the principal!

That sounds like my DH:rolleyes:
I always did the important but awkward phone calls in the past, but with my hearing going he has to make them now:confused3

His father never made phone calls:lmao:

We were visiting with the prinicpal on Monday during the Open House. Seriously, just VISITING with her, and he was still to chicken to mention the TOAL.

Are they really strict about vacations during school time:confused3

Ours here are pretty understanding.

Yes. I think the kids can miss 5 days in each 1/2 of the school year. Vacations are not excused absences at all. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that my kids don't need a sick day 'til February next school year.

We haven't told the principle yet (the old one last year knew about it, but she retired) but I am waiting for the school schedule before diving into that. (it's OK -I won't rant again about that! :rotfl: ) If we are starting before Labor Day (particularly if it is 8 days before!) I am going to make a fuss this spring about getting his teacher assignment early. They usually only post them (on the door of the school) 4 or 5 days before school starts. That means we wouldn't even know who his teacher was until we got back on Labor Day - if they start really early, the list might even be down by then!

On the plus side, the principle does somewhat know us and is aware that we are VERY involved with school stuff since I am co-president of the PTO this year and DH also comes to all the meetings and helps out at all the events. Hopefully, we will have a little "pull" and can get an early teacher assignment. If I know who the teacher is, then I can contact them in advance and at least let them know WHY he isn't in school for the first few days!

Has anyone else seen this! :lmao: :rotfl2:

I have DH bidding on a tiara for me at eBay (all of you have inspired me to get a new one!) and he ran across this. He tried to convince me it would be "better" than the one I've picked out :rotfl:

Just search on "pirate tiara".....

Pamela

Pretty neat! But it doesn't look very comfortable. :headache:

My sister sent me a copy of the receipt for the canopy tour in PV she booked through puertovallertatours at Los Veranos. It lists our time as 11:30! Isn't that in between everyone else? Maybe that's just when we leave the office? I just sent them an e-mail.

Age makes a big difference in how strict they will be, too. Attendance issues are really big deals at the HS level.

And they'll probably learn more on this trip (about the Canal and Mexico etc) than they would in the missed school days:rolleyes:

The principal has made it clear to everyone that she needs to turn in ALL incidences of excessive absences (more than 5 days/semester). From there it is up to the truancy officer to deal with the situation. Somehow, I think our absent note will read something like, "Please excuse Little Enna Jr.'s absence last week. He was unable to attend school due to a transportation problem. He couldn't get a ride from Colombia." (transportation problems are excused absences)

Ok sorry for the long post but I was just sent this one and had to post it - somehow does #3 reminds y'all of anyone? ENJOY!
Sixteen Things It Took Me Almost 50 Years to Learn:
by Dave Barry, Nationally Syndicated Columnist

1. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

2. If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be "meetings."

3. There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness." (:lmao: :lmao: :rotfl2: )

4. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.

5. You should not confuse your career with your life.

6. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance. (This one is very important)

7. Never lick a steak knife.

8. The most destructive force in the universe is gossip. (:scared1: NEVER!)
9. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time.

10. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment. (:headache: DUH! )

11. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age 11. (Seriously????? :rotfl: )

12. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status, or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above average drivers.

13. A person, who is nice to you, but rude to a waiter, is not a nice person. (This is very important. Pay attention it never fails.)

14. Your friends love you anyway. (:lovestruc :flower3: )

15. Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic.

16. Thought for the day: Men are like fine wine. They start out as grapes; and it's up to the women to stomp the crap out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.

Obviously, the kids will have more valuable learning in the days from Cartagena to Port Canaveral than they would in those same days in the classroom.

Got home from work and a package was waiting for me....mt tiara!

What no smile..... That looks like my passport photo.

I got our taxes done today.

I was going to remind you about the child thing ending but i see you've already been hit. They grow up so fast....

Way to go Andy. I'm still waiting for one more W2 from the Disney Store (and it's for all of about 25 hours of work last year.)

I've got all my stuff now...Got the church statement and the 1099G today...

Does anyone else feel it's unfair to tax us on our state refund from last year?

Debi,

We just finished watching the Mr.____ ______ Contest from Angelina's high school. The judges were the school's lunch ladies. I thought of you and I knew you would have enjoyed this. The boys kept going down to the judges table and was trying to bribe all the judges with gifts and flowers. The whole thing was a RIOT!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I would have Loved it Andy! ;)

I am confused. I am trying to log in to the weekly chat. I have not been to the chat for at least 2 months. I am sure that I am doing something wrong because it does not like my user id. Can someone please tell me which user id I should be using????? Should I be logging in the same way that I log into the DISboard? This is what I am trying to do but it won't let me in.
Thanks
Jennifer
