OH No ...Girlscout cookies ... you have found my weakness Stop!! Please Stop!!!

pirate:

OK, this is obviously an American thing, but I have to ask...what is a GS cookie & what makes them so special? :confused3 DD is a Brownie (guiding variety, not cookie variety), but there is no food involved there!

Celestine

No, I was more his type, than the other way around. Yes he tried to do a De Niro accent/scene for me as well.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: A De Niro accent because you are from London?:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Dream on, Andrew! Just because you had an attractive gay waiter in Florence doesn't mean mine was . . .

Julie, everything I have read says that is very safe there. But there are also some listings on the cruise critic board about a couple of guides that could be hired. Everything I have read too seems that you are approached more traveling in a larger group with people trying to sell you things. So I don't think it would bother me to go off on our own. Honestly, I don't think DCL would really stop here if they didn't feel that it was safe for it's guests. Of course I hope there would be some others that would like to come along, I'm not talking about going by myself.:goodvibes

I would feel safer with a DIS group. If I can't get a DCL excursion I'm going to venture out anyway:confused3 Maybe we'll join you:goodvibes

Julie & Paula,
Do you think we should check into organizing a private tour for some of us who like to tour independently - but prefer to be cautious while in Columbia?

I love history (was a History major) - and want to see the sites.

Hmmmm?

That's a possibility, Chris -- I have to look into what the sights are and what my girls would be interested in -- maybe a beach or maybe the other things . . . but it could work out.

I think it would be fun to go together & we'd be a smaller group than DCL.

I have no problems travelling alone - I did it again this summer in Paris & the repo cruise. I also took my 2 kids on adventures while they were young.- including a 6 week cross country trip.
I am "cautiously fearless" - how's that for a discription!!! :rotfl2:

What did you ask the emeradl man?

:thumbsup2
This history minor and poli sci major (no history major at his school) would be interested in that. We've never done a DCL excursion and I wasn't excited about starting.

Could we join any possible, potential DISer excursion in Cartegena? I really want to see the old city and historical stuff (and maybe a little shopping) BUT I am not a fan of big tour groups that so often seem to spend 10 minutes at the interesting stuff and 45 minutes at touristy shops. I have been really debating this stop since I wasn't sure I wanted to go off alone there with just DH, DS and myself - but also didn't want to do a DCL "city tour"...

I just saw the CNN special with Pdarrahs DH.It will be on again I think tomorrow. It is the last 10 minutes of the show and sadly after all the time he spent with the filming crew, they didn't showcase him too much. But the organization KIVA was given good marks. The default rate on loans was stated as less than 1%.

I missed it since I had to take DS8 to his Cub Scout Pinewood Derby - it came on about 2 minutes after we left the house. DH saw it and said they only used a small bit of what they recorded of him. He also said it was a good plug for Kiva, so I think he is happy with it. I'll watch it tomorrow and try and tape it (I'm not very good with the VCR - please don't laugh - I have a MS degree in Computer Science and can do all sorts of stuff with other gadgets - I'm just VCR challenged!)

Pamela (pdarrah)

My guess, they cant do that, well in its original form, as the problem was first said to be that when you access a long thread, it searches from post 1, to the current page. If we all do that at the same time it, slows the server. (Does pirates make it worse?)

Maybe an edited version, or out for a limited time, or to a few people?

But if the old thread was only being read on occasion, instead of being called up every time someone wanted to post currently, it might not be so bad . . .

It just feels like a piece of our shared history is gone this way . . .

Regina, thanks for the update -- and most of us had nothing to do with that poll!

As long as we can eventually read the old thread, I don't think anyone would mind having it locked for new postings. Could that be done and still have the server speed improved???

As someone else mentioned earlier, even reading these long threads causes the site to bog down. They will probably need to be split apart, locked and linked to the next 'chapter' so to speak. Again, this isn't just your thread, there are quite a few that they're looking at.

I understand that the poll was supposed to be funny, (at least I hope that was the intent.) However, it is bit hurtful to see the Mods used as scapegoats for something they had zero control over. It would have been remiss of me not to say something on their behalf.

Oh no, that means the food porn thread on the theme parks board could be on the chopping block.:guilty: That thread has been going since early 2005.

That's one of the first things I checked when I heard that threads with 10,000 posts were going to disappear. The food porn is only at 8K and change. It will get to 10K soon enough. Guess we'll just have to start over with new (or reposted) photos.

Honestly, Celestine, I don't get the opportunity that often and have only ever tried Thin Mints, but I've been unable to find a rival brand that tastes the same. Girl Scouts all over the US use the cookies sales to fund troup activities.

GS = Girl Scouts

They sell cookies as one of their annual fund raisers. Their cookies are obviously legendary over here. They've got several varieties and all are wonderfull. :cloud9:

Pamela, maybe they will post the part about Kiva on their board. It really wasn't that long.

Well, even though I did not post the poll, I will apologize to you and all the moderators on behalf of this entire thread . . . as Andrew said before, we all admire the work you do.

Thanks for giving us hope that the old thread can eventually be read again . . .

What if they did away with the images and left the text?

Could you make the poll disappear. None of us are too keen about it.

Was yours with the guide dog then?:rotfl2: Yes in London often we do that De Niro accent. So he copied

Regina has answered before I could

Regina, can you cut the poll, I think Crash ( as he does, -did it for fun) but hes not around and I am sure he would drop it now if he was around. He has a bad case of flu, and was up late studying for a Ski trip. He would go with the flow.

Regina - I think I speak for all, we would be ok if you wanted to remove it. I believe it was added late last night by a feverish, sleep deprived member of our cruise. His humor is sometimes taken the wrong way.

(Love ya Crash  ).

Pamela, I still have it recorded. Will try to get it on the computer for you. It really wasn't very long.

Yes believe me I want you all to have a good time, please do not go to this beach! I on the Med thread last year said do not do Capri, a few people came up to me after that day and said Andrew, you were right!
I feel strongly on this one, the beach in the city isn't nice.

I know you are a very independent lady and love to travel, on your own, and i did that a lot in the Med and have two lined up for this cruise, but in Columbia, its best to go with Disney, its safe in organized groups and in the approved shopping areas.

Its unlikley, but some Britions on vacation, were taken in past years, is generally safe in the approved tourist areas. I am glad to be going back, but will take care.

Crash has been unwell, but he has sent me a PM today so he is around.

This port and at the port entrance its bad, I only have seen worse in Egypt

I'm not a big beach lover (grew up on Long Island and went to the beach frequently as a kid). Passing on the Cartegena beaches won't be a big deal for me:confused3

I'm trying to prepare myself for the rush for DCL Cartegna tours and possibly not getting one. I would only go to the approved shopping areas and the tourist spots listed on the DCL tours, that's good advice:thumbsup2

I am expecting to be bombarded by people trying to sell things, so hopefully being prepared for it will lessen the impact (and knowing how to say "No Thank you, no money" in Spanish):confused3

BTW - I mentioned in Chat last night that the heavy rain here caused our garage/storeroom to flood and the emergency sirens/ermergency message on TV warned those near the creek in our town and the town next to us needed to evacuate.
So Update - storeroom is a mess - creek waters subsided - emergency over. However, more heavy rain expected tomorrow - have no idea how to keep the water out of garage.
Also, I'm delaying my trip to L.A. until this series of storms are gone. Saw a couple of bad accidents on the streets around here and am not going to take chances on the highways during storms.
