8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #15 /Life After the PC

My week home has been less then spectaculer.....

I've been sick (like so many of you) -- luckily it waited until the last day of our post cruise wdw trip to affect me! And one of my brothers told me this week (turns out he found out the day before I left but, didn't want to spoil my trip in any way) that his Lymphoma is back --- he was first diagnoised in 1998.
He came over yesterday to ask me to be his *person in charge of medical decisions*. He told me that he doesn't trust my dh or our mother to actually ever let him just die. ;) They would try to keep you alive forever no matter what the situation! LOL!
I guess our other siblings and our father were knocked out of the running for other reasons. :)
He also knows that I would care about his S/O's wishes.
.
I have the gift of not getting emotional when someone I love is hurt/sick, etc... I bawl like a baby during comercials but, I'm told someone I love is in medical trouble and I'm a rock. Dh on the other hand crumbles. ;)

We do know that wonderful strides have been made in chemo treatments -- last time db came close to dying because of port infections, not the cancer.

I know you will all think good thoughts and prayers. Thank you.

Stephanie

Steph,

We'll keep your brother and your family in our prayers. It's great that he knows that he can count on you to be there for him. Please know that your friends will be here for you too if you need anything!

nope, still no talks scheduled. :sad2:

Keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers too. Hope they can resolve this quickly.

I thought about booking an imaginary suite, so I could have an imaginary concierge, since the only way I could afford that is with imaginary money.

Yeah, but then the real bean-counters will keep the real money you plunked down on your imaginary suite. Just think how much money you would save by keeping that suite!

Woo-hoo!

Party in M's suite!

There probably are new treatments now. Hope one of them works for him:hug:

Ohhh Stephanie. I am so sorry. Looks like he has a journey ahead of him.
My parents are soooo extremely organized. They were telling me a while ago that one brother is in charge of theirl money, one is in charge of their assets, my sister is in charge of medical decisions except they chose me, and me alone, to decide when to "Pull the plug". Now, my sister is a Doctor and both brothers are very accomplished- why me to pull the plug I ask. Response? "We know you would actually make the decision where the other 3 would not". Not quite sure how to take that. ;)
I told them it would be sooner vs later and they said "It's up to you, we trust you".
If you ask me that is a strange way to sort things. I thought I was getting pity post since I am the youngest but I kinda got the most serious one.
My siblings and I are very close and we would make every decision together but odd none the less. :confused3

Okay so I have booked the Disneyland Hotel for the nights of 12th ,13th and 14th , So Saturday the 14th we will make the Date for the DIS meet , now we always go to Disneyland in March to celebrate our Birthdays , and I think Stace does too , so we hope that all that can will join us for the Pirates Reunion and also could be Future Cruisers meet as by then I am sure we will all probably be booked on other cruises after Oct 7th , Speaking of which

It does look like DCL is going to the Baltic so our plan is that we will do the last Baltic cruise and then do the Repo back to Port Canaveral , I am hoping that on the Repo that stops will include Ireland , England and France .. If they do we are so doing back 2 back ....I hope that many of you will be on one of these 2 cruises as I enjoyed many of your guy's company and look forward to seeing you all again ......

So , What say You !!!!

TAKE WHAT YOU CAN !!!!!

We'll be there in 2010

Whew! Okay, I may not be totally unpacked yet, but I just finished uploading all my pictures! Well, maybe only 99% of my pics - I left out a few that were horribly fuzzy (or incriminating). :rolleyes1

I have to say now that I'm really sorry I didn't try harder to keep up with the thread and post more before the cruise. Or at least come to chat every once in awhile. This was the most endearing and entertaining group of people and there wasn't enough time in 15 days to meet you all. The small percentage of you that I did meet were wonderful and I hope to see you all again someday on our reunion cruise! :woohoo:

Monica - I can TOTALLY relate. I shouldn't even be thinking about a reunion cruise at this point because I'm supposed to be job hunting as well. Granted, I left my job willingly (jumping for joy, I might add) to take a little time off before the TOAL, but the bank account is dwindling fast and I don't want to come back from Neverland. I keep clapping for Tinkerbell to come, but it hasn't worked yet. And since I've finished procrastinating with the pictures I have no choice but to start the search. Yuck, growing up is not fun.

Oh wait, wasn't I adopted by 2 different families on this trip? Deb... Roger... Was that just for fun or do either of you have an extra bedroom? :rotfl:

Although something tells me even if I was to move to a new family I still wouldn't have a stateroom host and 24 hour room service. Rats. On to Monster.com next... :headache:

In all seriousness (if that's possible), I was apprehensive about going on such a long trip "by myself" (because I intended to find a roommate 18 months ago) but this group of Pirates truly made this a TOAL that I will never forget. Thanks for everything!! :cloud9:

Kim

Lovely to meet you Kim

Stephanie thinking of you and your brother, my SiL was diagnosed with Leukemia 3 weeks before our trip she is still in hospital and the 1st lot of chemo didn't work she has just finished the second and our fingers are crossed we also heard today that a bone marrow match has been found so as long as this chemo has done the job things are looking up for her.

To all in Ike's path we are thinking of you across the pond

Ah...I had forgotten about that! No wonder she was so tired...the PC talk was the morning after the sleepover in the lab!

I'm so sorry, Stephanie. It is tough to come back from such a wonderful vacation and have to face a crisis so soon!

We are still awaiting Ike here in San Antonio. I have pretty much given up hope that this monster is going to miss us...it appears to be headed straight for Houston. It does not appear to be strengthening too much (still a high category 2 storm with 105 mph winds) so that is a small comfort to me. They are still predicting that it could strengthen to a low 3 before landfall in about 12-14 hours.

I don't know how many of you have been following this, but this storm is huge. It takes up a good portion of the Gulf of Mexico. They are even predicting tropical storm-force winds for our friends up in Dallas. If anyone is interested, the Weather Channel is showing almost-continuous coverage from the Houston area. We live about 30 miles up the freeway from Galveston on the SE side of Houston (Friendswood/Clear Lake area not too far from Seabrook and Kemah). Clear Lake also happens to be the home of the Johnson Space Center. There was a huge hurricane that hit Galveston back in 1900 that killed about 8000 people. After that, they built a 16-20 foot seawall along the beach to hold back the water. Now, with the eye of the storm still 12 hours away, water is already as high as the seawall and even spilling over on to the roadway in places. And, on the Weather Channel, they are showing people standing out there and watching the waves! :scared1:

I just find it so ironic that this monster storm came out of the same beautiful water that we were sailing only 2 weeks ago! :sad2:

Kim

My thoughts and prayers are with both of your familes.

:wave2: All -

Been MIA dealing with a situation at home - all is fine but the bomb is about to drop on someone here and it ain't on me (Or Andrew for once :rotfl: ) Anyway, just wanted to share that due to this circumstance, I have NOT uploaded anything but I fully intend to start hopefully this weekend.

Here's what happened today. DD tells me that her volleyball Chili Cookoff tickets $$ are due today, to I go and pay that and her uniform fee and while I'm there I'm told that there is a $225 ad fee, a $100 raffle fee and by the way, did you know your supposed to be working tonight at the football game? (No - this WASN'T the DD I was going to drop the bomb on but :scratchin - you never know - things can change)

Then as I'm writing out a check for $350 bucks, I'm informed that "Casey" the Baseball coach was so very happy with my pictures I took on their semi-final game last May that he was wondering...........

Yeah, well now he wants to know if I could do it again sometime.........:headache: Did I neglect to tell you all that I only have a DD in school - no DS's. So of course who walks in but Brother Michael asking where his pictures from the Volleyball scrimmage is and when he found out that "Casey" loved the pictures happily volunteered me to take pictures - assuming "I don't have anything else to do right Mrs Elliott?"

Um........how do you tell your child's teacher and a brother no less - no thanks??????????:headache: :headache: Then the magical words are spoken - of course there would be some sort of service hours in there for you. So now, instead of being like this:  I'm like:

So I am not working snack bar tonight (football season) but instead will be "volunteering" my time to take pictures again. Although I did volunteer to chaperone the kids Study Abroad program this April 9 - 21, 2009. Of course, Mrs. Wilson (Spanish Teacher) turned me down flat. The one thing I really want to do and I get turned down. Oh well, I guess I've been traveling too much but darn it - the kids are going to Madrid, Barcelona, Carcassonne, Provence, Avignon, Nice, French Rivera, Pisa, Florence, Assisi, Rome & THE SISTENE CHAPEL! along with St Peter's Basilica... AND I CAN'T GO!!! :sad2: And I got decent lenses this time.

That does it - I'm just going to have to go on another cruise when she goes. I can't have my child be a more seasoned traveler than I am. :rotfl2:

I just want to know if they appreciate what they have - I couldn't have done this while I was growing up. But the SISTENE CHAPEL!

Oh well, on to finish unpacking.

Oh yeah - on to the real reason for posting - got my cell phone bill today, it was cheaper to talk on the phone in Aruba than it was to call from Castaway. My rate in Aruba was $1.69 and the Bahamas was $1.99. Mexico was only $0.59 so that wasn't bad.

Anyone else get any surprises? OK - hopefully I can make chat sometime and talk with you all - will catch up later. Phone's ringing - might be Cheryl! ;)

Ok this is so wrong.
They are interviewing evacuees that came here from Houston/Galveston. This woman in a large SUV said "I left my animals at home and now I am so glad I did since the storm surge is even higher than expected". :sad2: WTH is that supposed to mean? Those poor animals were left to fend for themselves. I can tell you with complete certainty that there is no way my husband would ever leave the animals. I think he would leave me before them.
OK- vent over!
I was glad to see all the shelters here taking animals.

That breaks my heart! How could she leave her animals? I have never had to evacuate but if I ever did..those little ones will be coming with me.

Deep breath...meet us in RBD in a few hours :)

Well..even if you can't go with the group...you can always go..just to keep an "eye" on her! :rotfl:

I am going scrapbooking tonight at my friends store and unpacked all my wonderful scrap exchange bags from the cruise. Here's a quick photo of all the treasures I got .......and it does not even come close to doing it justice, as every one of these envelopes/bags is filled with lots of fun embellishments that match the theme that person had.
Thanks again scrapbooking friends! I can't wait to start my album....(which sadly won't be tonight since I have not printed my photo's yet)

If I had a job, I would be so tempted to take this offer. Heck, even without a job, I'm tempted.

12 night Med cruise on NCL, balcony stateroom, with free air from select cities, $1999.
NCL Deal

Hey Monica - I'll go even though its not DCL - heck - Athens, Alexandria - those are two more places that I can scratch off my bucket list.

:thumbsup2

Well crap.

Looks like I have a good chance of joining Monica, K and Kim in the pirate unemployment line.

Hmmm, we are cutting back next year...we aren't raising enough money to do all the work we want to do...let's layoff a fundraiser... :confused3

There are a few jobs on the chopping block for next fiscal year and mine is one of them. It makes sense, I make more $$ than everyone in the development dept. besides the VP, but huh??? I'll know for sure next week. If it's over, it's over Sept. 30.

I'm happy to report that they will be hiring for the two NEW positions I secured funding for. I'm bummed for many reasons, but if I'm gone, this will be the first job where I haven't set some sort of record - that was my personal goal for next year. This year all I did was beat my position's annual goal, with 3 months to spare.

Are we chatting tonight? I could use a few drinking buddies.

:tink: and a DOUBLE   for you! ;)

See folks, I got proof M

Which reminds me - I need to download the ones on my camera.

OK not sure if this has been covered. But here goes - all those months of attempting to lose weight and today was judgment day.

I step on the scale and I was really dreading it as I finally gave up watching what I ate the last night of our cruise and didn't really watch on what I ate on the 5-day, plus the chocolate cake with ice creams that Steve and I had at Shoney's in FL the 3 days we were there, well, as I said, I just gave up and decided I'd deal with the weight gain when the day came.

Well, today was the day. I could have kicked myself. I actually lost 2 lbs from this TOAL. So instead of being happy about it as my trainer was, I have to go and blow it by saying OMG! You mean I actually lost more!!!!!!!!

I was SOOOO bad those last couple days - those drinks, those nachos, those cakes, those Roy Rogers! :headache: :headache: :headache: I could have lost more. Oh well, the trouble is to now keep them off.

By the Way, the furr kids did not lose any weight at all - they were in storage for 3 weeks and aside from a free discolorations on their elbows and back paws, they are still as healthy as when we left them. :headache: :headache:

NOTE TO SELF: find a new place that doesn't spoil them as much. I didn't pay for human play time as they had 3 "outings" per day, well, ISIS, the black diva, when they were placed in the play yard, would go to the corner facing the office and howl so much when she was in the yard that they felt pity for her and Chloe ended up going out to play with them. Whomever said that huskies are dumb obviously never had one. They are by no means numb but STUBBORN???? ::yes:: that is their middle name.:rotfl2:

This line is growing. Not something I'm happy about.

Sorry to have you join us......that sounds so wrong, but you know what I mean.

Absolutely I'm chatting tonight, even if it is alone. Got the bottle of wine chilling. Getting the kid packed. My brother should be here within the hour to take DS for the weekend. :cool1: Haven't had any alone time (except school hours) since Aug 13 when we left for the TOAL. I really got used to having my weekends to myself.
