8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #14

So I'm all excited about the cruise, right? I'm pretty much packed and ready to go and am so looking forward to 15 days of paradise....

But now I'm totally nervous about leaving my Wrangler parked in the driveway. Why, you may ask? Late last night, as I sitting here DISing, someone shot my Wrangler with a paintball! I have no known enemies and have barely spoken to anyone lately, so I don't know who it could have been! I'm really upset (yes, I am a big baby and cried), but going away for two weeks with it just being a sitting duck in the driveway? Not good!

Can you leave it in a friend's driveway?

Now I need to PACK !!!

Don't look at me..........I want to watch the Olympics.:thumbsup2

Crash - I am not sure if you actually purchased it in Costco but if you have all the original packing and receipt you can return to them, no questions asked. They have the best return policy. If not I will speak with DH about it and we will discuss on the ship, we may be interested

I've not yet begun to PACK!

Am I crazy or what?

Seriously... I have a couple of piles of stuff - so maybe I am semi-packed.

sony_dcr_dvd108_zoom1.jpg

And last nite I decided to retire (EBAY) the Sony DVD Camcorder I bought 3 months ago! It's the same as Monica has... and I blame my BIL from Maui. He gets on the phone with me to repeatedly ask about these camcorders he saw at Costco... and so I get to looking at these things at Costco the next day - and I get to thinking... yeah ... maybe it's time to make a long term desicion that is HD compatible and directly outputs to a stable format for long term storage.

So - I finally settled on the Canon Vixia HF100 HD Flash based camcorder. I ordered two - one for me and another for my BIL coming in from Maui for our cruise.

For those GUYs who are interested in the technical short sheet - the HF100 boasts NO memory - you use SDHC cards... requiring a minimum of class 4 speed for recording at the highest bit rate - and 8GB records 1 hour at the best quality and a bit over 2 hours recording at a lower bit rate. The sensor is 3+ MP native resolution so it shots 3MP stills and oversamples to produce the 2 MP HD images at 1080. The manual controls are better than comparable / competitive models ... and the sensor performance is better in low light to competitors but it has some odd marginal weaknesses. the Optical IS is considered less effective then most other competitors - however, even so it reducs modest movement by about 85%. Overall... it is well regarded with output that is tolerable to edit. Having no internal memory - it relies on the falling cost of SDHC cards to make it cost effective... or it relies on MY willingness to haul an external HD to download the footage.

What i like best about this is that it is relatively inexpensive and IMO... over the long haul it will be cheaper to store footage. I don't think I need many Dual layer DVDs... except to one day share footage ... maybe. I can store 100 hours of best quality 1080 HD footage on 800GB of a 1TB drive.

canon-hf100.jpg

At any rate... I'm stuck with it. I paid $639 for it ... plus $44 for a class 4 SDHC card (8GB)... and $64 for fedEX next day delivery on two... but NO sales tax!

I don't suppose anyone wants to buy a nearly brand new sony dcr-dvd108 with 40 blank DVDR discs + one generic high capacity battery + generic charger? I paid $125 for the camera (open box) at Best Buy (receipt furnished for your warrenty), and about $35 for 2 generic batteries + charger. The 40 DVDs are probably worth no less than $50 if not as much as $100 (even in 10 pack spindles!). I would be happy with $175 for the whole thing (worth $210+)! I shot 9 of 10 DVDs off one spindle... and the camera works fine. I initially bought 50 DVD discs so have 40 left in sealed spindles. ANYWAYS ... I don't expect anyone to be shopping for a DVD camcorder here... especially unsolicited. However, I mention it here... just in case.

Anyways .... when I get back I'll list it on ebay for $150 starting bid and see if it gets up above 175. If not - then at least I got rid of it.

I cannot even BEGIN to explain the feeling of relief I am feeling right now ... No, I'm not packed yet ... No, I haven't made it to the salon for my mani and pedi, ... No, the car isn't packed, the house isn't cleaned and finally No, we're not ready to leave.

BUT, I am D O N E with work for NINETEEN days :cool1: No more getting backstabbed by co-workers, no more getting thrown under the proverbial bus by managers, no more "justify your position" reporting. Everything that could be done was done to the best of my ability, and if that's not good enough TOUGH. I'm ON VACATION  :dance3: :cheer2:

Now ... I have to go because DS12 has told me that my 15 minutes of computer time is up and I need to PACK :rotfl: Mani and Pedi in half an hour.

Anyone want to sing some GoGo's w/me ...

Vay-cay-tion all I ever wanted .... :woohoo:

~Kandi

Feeling good huh?:cool1:

Really? I can BRING it for you to check out? Let me know? it would not be too tough... it's not like I've packed too much already < wink - wink >

So seriously... I bought it from BEST BUY and it has a full normal warrenty. I don;'t know how long that is but I got it about 3 months ago!

Let me know - or PM me that you wanna check it out and I'll bring it ... no obligation to buy it. I have a 2nd battery that does not seem to work although it worked intiially. I think I might have shorted it out somehow or ???? But that is included. The one I use now is the standard one sold at BEST BUY for about $50.... I paid about $25 including shipping... and about $18 for the initial battery that's not working now + a good charger.

PM ME....

Tina... Cheryl....

I gotta go now...

I'll be back later to see what MISCHIEF you two have been up to....

NO GOOD... I'm sure!

You foks ARE packing a portable extrenal hard drive ... right? Or ... may I ask ... how many cards and of what capacity are you bringing?

8GB only shoots an hour and I can get a class 4 Sandisk Ultra II card for $44 shipped free. And if you are shooting more than 90 minutes in one event... you'll need at least one more battery!

I bought a 37mm UV (clear) filter to protect the primary lense. In the event of a catastrophie that does not destroy the camera (like a bursting soda can sprayed your way ... or something crazy like spray solvent) ... the lense FILTER will take the damage leaving your expensive fixed lense safe. Replace the $13 filter and you're good to go again good as new... provided the camera itself survived!

aside from that... I always stick a P-touch label to the camera with my name and telephone number. It might get a lost camera directed back to you ON the ship... or near home. If lost ashore ... it's likely GONE. Alas... who knows?

At any rate... I am egarly awaiting delivery. I'm folowing the progress on fedEX tracking!

Let's see, my HD cam uses tape, and I've got 8 spares. For the camera, I'm bringing 10x8Gig Xtreme-III, and the laptop, and a few double sided DVD's (just in case)

Before I die I AM going to see Rocky Horror!

You've never seen Rocky Horror Picture Show?????? :confused3 Are you one of the really young ones on this thread???? ;)

When dh and I were teenagers -- in the later 70's -- we used to go see it about once a month.....

I'm pretty sure I bought dh the DVD since we only owned it on video tape.....

Mani/Pedi - Done
1 load of laundry done (3 more to go)
1 more day of work
No packing done except FE's
Lots of people already in CA. Have fun everyone!!

What she said... :thumbsup2 only 1 more day..

We plan on heading out about 9am tomorrow. First, drop keys at Mom's so Dad can feed the cat. Then, take Harley to the vet and check him into his room. Should be on the road and heading to Coral's by 10am. Our flight doesn't leave until 7:30pm from DFW. We land at LAX at 11pm. This will most likely be my last posting. So, everyone have a safe trip and we'll see ya real soon!!!!

Never seen it either - always wanted to just never got around to it

Can you leave it in a friend's driveway?

We actually discussed parking the cars somewhere else, but when it comes down to, what about the other 2 cars in the driveway? We can't move all of them, because then it will be obvious that there's no one home. So tomorrow it's off it AutoZone to look for a car cover. It's not the best solution, but it's a solution for now.

Crash...I know your idea isn't funny, but still for some reason it made me laugh....but it's a sad state of affairs that anyone has to consider putting in a home security system like that.

I don't know if it was a random occurance and it's my poopy luck that my car got hit last night or it's someone I know who was feeling particularly hateful towards me (I have no idea who that might be though. I have no people that I have an enemy relationship with). Either way, I'm not a happy camper today. :sad2:

Andy,
is your SIL doing the carriage and *stuff* at her GF wedding? Or is that more info then any man wants? :rotfl2:
Every since we watched the Travel channel special on getting married @ WDW we (dh, myself & 17dd) have been fascinated by all teh *stuff* to do there for weddings!
And since we stay at the GF we've seen several brides, etc.... Once dd saw the coach it was over. She knew that's what she wanted! LOL!
