I have extra batteries for my camcorder and laptop. Can I put them in my checked luggage? Can I put the chargers for them in my checked luggage?
Yes and yes. And we do.
Sure!
However, if your luggage gets lost before we embark .... then you lose ALL your mobile power capacity for your E-toys... unless .... you find another friendly DIS neighbor with the same E-toys as you!
Safe Travel with Batteries and Devices
Effective January 1, 2008, the Department of Transportation (DOT) through the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) will no longer allow loose lithium batteries in checked baggage.
Some Tips for Safe Travel With Batteries
Keep batteries and equipment with you, or in carry-on baggage - not in your checked baggage! In the cabin, flight crew can better monitor conditions, and have access to the batteries or device if a fire does occur.
Buy batteries from reputable sources and only use batteries approved for your device – avoid counterfeits! A counterfeit battery is more likely to cause a fire in your equipment – costing you more in the long run, and compromising safety.
Look for the mark of an independent testing or standards organization, such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL) or International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
Do not carry recalled or damaged batteries on aircraft. Check battery recall information at the manufacturer's website, or at the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Only charge batteries which you are sure are rechargeable! Non-rechargeable batteries are not designed for recharging, and become hazardous if placed in a battery charger. A non-rechargeable battery placed in a charger may overheat or cause damage later.
Only use a charger compatible with your rechargeable battery – don’t mix and match!
If original packaging is not available for spare batteries, effectively insulate battery terminals by isolating the batteries from contact with other batteries and metal. Do not permit a loose battery to come in contact with metal objects, such as coins, keys, or jewelry.
Place each battery in its own protective case, plastic bag, or package, or place tape across the battery's contacts to isolate terminals. Isolating terminals prevents short-circuiting.
Take steps to prevent crushing, puncturing, or putting a high degree of pressure on the battery, as this can cause an internal short-circuit, resulting in overheating.
If you must carry a battery-powered device in any baggage, package it to prevent inadvertent activation. For instance, you should pack a cordless power tool in a protective case, with a trigger lock engaged. If there is an on-off switch or a safety switch, tape it in the "off" position.
Okay, I don't remember where in Target I saw this last week, but I know it was not the laundry aisle actually which is where I would have looked as well!! Well, our target has the laundry stuff all broken up. It might have been near the fabric softener or by the starch for ironing. They did have a small sample in their sample bins in the back by the toiletries and stuff. I just remember it being in an odd spot!!
This is really COOL. Can't to see it on OUR door...Very cool Sil!

Actually I think the answer is now NO. Here is the new TSA guidelines that started 1/1/08. TSA Link

If the batteries are LITHIUM, then the answer is NO. They recently changed this and no LITHIUM batteries are allowed in checked luggage - they much be in carryon. You can put the charges in, but as someone else said if the luggage gets lost you'll be unable to charge....
Pamela
Thank you and hope we avoid the Crud,Hi guys...
I did the WB.. Hope you have a GREAT time!!! WE certainly did!!!
Just a quick one that is brought over from another thread..
Another thing to add to your packing (sorry...)
Make sure you bring cold meds with you. We all got what we affectionately call the "Cabo Crud" which was a cold that went around about the time we hit Cabo...
The store on board ONLY had Dayquil.... NO Nyquil... so I would suggest you throw something in if you think you will need it. I know CVS and Walmart both sell the boxes of Dayquil and Nyquil together... I had some and shared it with my fellow Disers who were hurting. ALSO... bring cough drops... I suggest Ricola... the cherry is very good - just in case you get a cough... better to have it than not.
Anyway... have a great time!!!
Well that's a start!Well I have found the suitcases
Oh Tanya! If there is anyone who doesn't have trip insurance, please get it.
My step mother and her daughter called yesterday morning to tell us my father died. I asked when they were planning to have the funeral and they said Friday. I got a call later saying the family has decided to have the funeral on SUNDAY instead.
So I had to cancel. I'll get a refund. DCL refunded half yesterday and I have to turn in calm forms to the insurance company for the balance.
Since I didn't book airfare with DCL, I may be out of that expense.
Is there anyone here who hasn't purchased DL park passes yet? I have two of the three day Southern California passes. If someone needs them, they are yours (no charge). They expire on the 30. If I don't give them way, they will be wasted.
If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll overnight them before we head to South Carolina on Tuesday.
If no one here needs them, I'll try to give them away on DL board when I return.
Sorry to be a downer in the mist of all the excitement.
Enjoy your TOAL and please take/post plenty of pictures.
Love ya Tanya
Suitcase Fairy is a myth- better get to packing! In front of me is four large empty suitcase's, I was hoping if I look at them long enough, and think of the cruise, they will fill themselves of the clothes I wish to take, but the Suitcase Fairy seems to be on strike.
Well that's a start!![]()
Oh Tanya!
I just read this and sent you a pm also. We'll miss you so much but you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I'm so sorry for your loss.![]()

We got suitcases down from the rafters today....luckily DS18 is still away for drum corp, so his entire room is suitcases and boxes.
I boxed up my FE gifts....they weigh 14 lbs....LOL
Another reason I'm really glad we are driving to the port and only flying home.
What are the rules and/or measurements for the things we bring to the port? Can we give the porters our luggage as well as boxes?
