HELP!

OK, so I've known since we booked this cruise that DS9 will turn 10 onboard (Aug. 30). But now I am stressing over what to DO about it!! It is noted in our reservation, so there should be a suitable fuss at dinner for him, - 250 or so pirates singing happy birthday should be fun! But what about the rest of the day? Does DCL have birthday buttons like in the parks?

I'm not lugging presents with us. We don't do much in the way of "stuff" gift anyway - family and friends send them too much "stuff"! Since it is towards the end of the cruise, I may buy something he has his eye on.

Sooo, what do I do for the kid's birthday??? He's a heavy sleeper. Maybe I could decorate the room in the middle of the night?? Balloons pack small & would be fun in the room. Anyone up for a balloon blowing party in the wee hours of Aug. 30??? Deck 2 forward elevator area is close to our room.

How many balloons do you think it would take to fill a Cat 9???

Any other suggestions?

Hello All! This is our 1st post, though we have been eavesdropping for years! We are going to be cruising with all of you on the great adventure. We are excited yet slightly apprehensive to jump in to all these posts. You all seem like such close friends, it's a tad intimidating. My DH is Roger and we have two DDs; Brenna 9 and Erin 6. Oh! I'm Melissa.

Thanks for all the tips in the past, oh say 8 or 9 YEARS!!!!!

Welcome Melissa and family. Glad to have you along. Will this be your first Disney Cruise?

Oh man, that post was right before mine but I'm just now seeing it! I bet everyone isn't in chat THIS late huh? LOL

I just hope their idea of upgrade is my idea of upgrade. Because my idea is not a smaller but more fancier vehicle.. I'd rather have the junkiest minivan they have- to fit all of us and our luggage! than a luxury vehicle. KWIM? LOL

Aw thanks- you're so sweet!
I'll send you a pm. I"m hard to shop for- that is the problem! I've even tried goodwill twice recently..... I can find lots of stuff but finding stuff that FITS is the problem. LOL
I can send you my measurements- that would probably be easier than a size. Sizes are so weird nowadays! I mean come on- medium capris? (8/10) No way I'm a size 8/10. Atleast not what 8/10 was in the old days. I used to wear size 8 when I weighed 115lbs! (I'm very short btw) and I'm way way way WAY heavier than that now. LOL I've tried on things in all sizes and none of it fits- it's like every brand has their own sizing policy or something. :(
Thanks for your offer..... I don't know if you'll have anything that might fit me but we'll see and it sure was nice of you to make such an offer!

Definitely worth it. And can't thank you enough for posting about the minivan and the price you got...... your post is what prompted me to do the rental. Thanks!

Hey there! Sure am missing ya!

I only hate to dress up because I have nothing to wear, can't seem to find anything that fits, and I'm bigger than I feel/etc. (yes I literally still get disgusted looking in the mirror- if I avoid mirrors I'm fine though LOL cause I don't FEEL that big. It's so hard to explain.......)
I have issues with pants.... I'm so short, and have a big huge butt and big huge thighs- but my waist is not big. Apparently they think if your butt is that big and your thighs are that big- you must have a huge gut. Well guess what- I don't. That's not my body shape. So I either have things that fit my waist and are tight on butt/thighs (please don't stare and laugh if by the end of the cruise some of my capris are tight in those areas LOL) or if they fight nicely (not tight at all) on my butt and thighs then they are HUGE HUGE HUGE at the waist- like so ridiculous there is no way I can wear them. So I do well with capris that can be synched at the waist with a tie or have elastic waist.
Shirts are another story.... I've outgrown most of my shirts. I'm still short (Obviously LOL) but I've "thickened" up quite a bit in the shoulders, arms and uh..... chest area. I was never that big in the chest before having kids! LOL So shirts are either tight- or like tents (and either too short or too long and if they are too long- then they are tight on the butt area cause the aforementioned big butt LOL)
But I do have some shirts that "technically" may be tees but they are like dressier tees- you know...... like what you might see in those casual wear magazines I get from time to time (which seems to be all travel wear/travel stuff in there) so they look nice- but if you look close enough you'd realize they really are tee-shaped. KWIM? not sure if they are "blouse" enough. We'll see.
I'm not going to stress about it. I know I'll be within the "dress code" on most nights- I might not be fitting the dress code for formal/semi-formal nights. But in any case- on any night- if I am getting the feeling I"m underdressed compared to everyone else- I'll just opt for other dining areas instead of the dining room. I won't die if I don't eat in the dining rooms though- to be honest I don't have a refined enough palate I don't think- because most nights I was struggling to find anything to order that I thought I'd like or that would taste good to me. The only thing I'd miss is my tablemates & the rest of the "pirates crew" in late dining ofcourse........ but if worst comes to worst- I'll eat elsewhere and hunt you all down as you come out of the dining rooms. LOL I'm determined THIS TIME I'm gonna meet more people and not be all lonely in the evenings once DH goes to bed early like a big baby. LOL

BIP, I have the same problem with pants/shorts. I just went to buy some new and one size the waist was huge, and the size down wouldn't allow for eating at all! So, for now, I will just stick with what I have and cinch up the waist with a belt on the ones that are too big. Also, please don't worry about the dining room. I don't remember if you have early or late dining, but my DH and I won't be dressing up as pirates. The kids have costumes from Halloween, but we don't, so we will just be wearing the bandanas. You have paid for the dinners when you paid for your cruise, so just come and enjoy them. We all want you to come to dinner.

DCL does have birthday buttons. I know you can get them from your servers. Make sure you let your stateroom host/hostess know and they may do something special on their own. Mine made a birthday cake out of towels and put streamers and balloons in the room. Any of the birthday celebration stuff you get from DCL would be set up on August 17, not on his birthday.

Happy Birthday Stephanie!!!!!!!!!!!

My DD will be turning 4 on Sept. 1, debarkation day. Kind of a crummy day for a birthday since we'll be rushing around in the morning. We are going to spend the day at MK so that will be fun for her.

I am planning on celebrating her birthday at dinner one night also. I'm not sure if we'll do it the last night since that seems to be somewhat hectic anyway. I have celebrated two of my other kids' birthdays on board in the past, and they did receive a birthday pin at dinner so hopefully they'll still have those.

I am also planning on getting a birthday card (with either the princesses or Mickey and Minnie) and dropping it at Guest Services to have all the characters sign it.

Mostly for folkes with special diets, like Kevin who has diabetes or peeps with food allergies. Others that require special medical equipment, etc.

I am diabetic too, but I didn't intend to fill out the form. I just watch my carbs so I won't need a special diet. Do I still need to fill out the form?

Is anyone still going on the DCL Acapulco City Tour with Cliff Divers? :confused3 DH doesn't like to do anything that isn't DCL organized. He says this is probably the only time we will be in these places and he wants to make sure we see what we want to see. It is just the two of us so the cost isn't too bad. I was hoping there will be some other DISers coming along.

Monica, good luck and pixie dust. pixiedust: Hang in there, something will come your way soon.

Just checking on storm names to make sure Tom was not on the list this year. Looks like we are safe  But then I checked the 2010 list and guess what Earl and Tomas (Thomas). :sad2: I say we schedule a reunion cruise for 2011.

Hey was there ever one named for Cherie or me????:confused3 If not.....it would be the storm of a lifetime.:lmao: :lmao:

An extension of the cruise wouldn't be a bad thing but no A/C might not be too nice when we get to the canal.:wizard:

I think I would even want A/C if it is 110 degrees outside.:rolleyes1

Concierge said that the rotation will be LAP, APL, PLA. Of course, everything is subject to change :lmao:

Is there any other way but subject to change.:lmao: :lmao:

Refund of port fees

I noticed this morning that I was refunded $30 by DCL last week to my Disney Visa. I contacted my TA this morning and she said just gotten an e-mail about it and that the port fees went down. It's not a lot , but it was a nice surprise. :goodvibes

Terri.....I am sure there is still lots of DISers still going on the tour. I have seen Cliff Divers in Hawaii twice. I was more interested in the Fort and others did like the review from the WB people. Do what YOU want to do and don't let anyone else influence you.

Yes, we are still doing the tour, but are doing the one with shopping. If there are openings, we may switch to the one without, but we are still going. We really want to see the cliff divers and we won't be going back to Acapulco.

Unfortunately, we will not be there during "high season", but who's willing to admit to looking?

Perhaps you're among those fortunate enough to have witnessed a green flash at the instant the sun sets; however for most, they've only heard of the phenomenon. One such area for viewing the green flashes is Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where, during the "high season" of November through May when the average daily temperature is 73°F with virtually no chance of rain, thousands of people religiously watch for this rare instantaneous event every evening at sunset.

And my favorite part of the article:

After attending hundreds of parties in Vallarta over the past ten years we have noticed that the odds of seeing green flashes (not to be confused with hot flashes) are directly proportional to the quantity of margaritas consumed! This is especially true with women because they seem to observe the green flashes much more often than do men. Since there is no empirical data or scientific explanation for this phenomenon, we can only attribute this to the party atmosphere that exists nightly in Vallarta.
:lmao: :lmao:

(Note to self...drink more margaritas in Puerto Vallarta :drinking1 )

Good to know. I thought I remember that any DCL package would be set up the first day - not what I had in mind. Towel cake - how fun!

Hmmm, I'll have to get a card.

Likewise.

We're doing 'Acapulco Highlights, Shopping & Cliff Divers', and DMIL/DFIL are doing the other DCL Cliff Divers tour.

Well.....

214 sq. ft. is the advertised size of the Cat 9, but this includes the bathrooms and closet, so 2/3 is roughly cabin space.

This gives 214 * 2/3 = about 143 square feet of living space?

The ceilings in the rooms are 7 feet hight, so the cubic space is about

143 x 7 = 1001 cubic feet.

If you get 9 inch balloons, you will fill a volume approximately 2/3 of a cubic foot.

Solving for "x", the number of balloons needed is

1001 = 2/3 * X

X = 1501

So you need 1500 balloons. Figure 30 or so smart add pirates would be willing to get up early to do this that means 50 balloons each.

Of course, if you just had everyone come from the bar to do this, figure an additional 250 balloons for breakage. And then what do you do with the drunk and now lightheaded pirates on the floor outside your room? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Terri- We are sticking with the Cliff Divers w/out the extra shopping. I figure it can't be that bad. (hope that is not famous last words).

Hmmm- I did not notice. I will have to see if I receive too.

Sorry. LAP looks like will be 8/28 since I would hope they wouldn't do that while we are going through the PC. :confused3 APL would fall on 8/21. So those days probably won't be available for breakfast in Parrot Cay. Now that is only if DCL follows their traditional logical predetermination for the CB. Lately, you can't seem to trust DCL to be logical so this may just be pure speculation. Savy? pirate:

So do we know for sure that they're going back to the regular rotational dining?
Ours for the Mexican Riviera was something like LAAPLAP....8 pm It's so confusing! But they did it to accommodate three dining times in the 3 restaurants.

That is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard DCL say. They have had three dining times in the dining rooms for a while with the LAPLAPL etc rotations. Who knows why they changed things this time. DCL didn't consider their answer to that too well. :lmao:

They had the regular rotation on the May repo and someone reported that they were told it would be the same for the EB repo. We aren't going to know until it happens on the ship. :goodvibes

You would use them if you are on medicine for medical conditions, wheelchair use and in my case..food allergies. Not sure about the distilled water.

I read through it thinking I might need to fill out one for DS because of his med. But I've decided not to fill it out. He doesn't have any medical limitation, he's just taking meds. I will have the original bottles with his prescription information on it, figured that would suffice.
