I read Panama Fever and it was much the same way. I would say at least 7/8ths of the book was dedicated to the French and American take over and very little on the US completion/construction effort.

Ginger can be used for any upset stomach issues. It would not hurt to give it a try before you left to see how you react. Do you have in experience with Ginger Ale? Same thing.

This gets very confusing since Dramamine (regular) contains Dimenhydranate whereas Dramamine Non-Drowsy contains Meclizine (same as Bonine). Meclizine is less sedating than Dimenhydranate. One thing to note is that you DO NOT want to give Meclizine to children 12 and under. They only get Dimenhydranate.

The only major problem with ginger is if you have bleeding problems or are taking something to thin your blood (Coumadin, Plavix, Aggrenox, Aspirin). If you take enough ginger they can prolong you bleeding time.

This is very good information! :thumbsup2

On a happier note today, :yay: Our hospital was finally sold today.:yay: We have been up for sale for 4-1/2 years and entangled in a legal battle between the hospital owners and the land owner. We will now be working for the Sisters of Providence a non-profit organization on the West Coast. We are all very excited.

Some people dread when they get sold. I am glad this is a positive for you.

Reading list so far this year
Whole Truth - Baldacci
Spin - Wilson
Panama Fever - Parker
Killer Instinct - Finder
Alexander Link - Berry
Lost World - Crichton
Secret Sanction - Haig

I would LOVE to be able to read that much. It seems like the last couple of years have gotten so much busier.

Today is my 17 year anniversary w/ my company. They say "my generation" switches jobs a lot. I guess I never got the memo. ;)

Wow, M -- your planned reading list and your list here are all books I have read! We must have about the same taste in books.

Whatcha readin' now??

I finished The Kite Runner about a week ago & I'm only reading one book right now (Path Between the Seas). I tend to read 2 at a time, depending on my mood, so I'm looking for a 2nd book.

I'm with you -- if DCL heads back anywhere in Europe for 2010, I'm in. I actually didn't book for 2009 because the itineraries just didn't wow me. I might book something onboard with a view to changing it when the 2010 dates come out.

I bet they go in 2010. We're due to be homeless most of summer 2010. We couldn't go to the Med last year because of the move. It will happen again, I'm sure.

We used Bonine...which is very similiar to Dramamine. For some reason our doctor and pharmacist recommended Bonine over Dramamine for the kids and I don't remember why! lol

I think people are discussing the other options, as they don't have any negative side effects as the meds do..ie: bands, ginger

That's odd. Bonine packaging says not for use under age 12.
We don't get seasick, but DS9 gets airsick. I give him childrens Dramamine...or sometimes 1/2 an adult tablet if that's all I can find. The children's stuff is sometimes difficult to find. Hmmm, thinking back, I once gave him a children's Tylenol chewable hoping for a placebo effect. :rotfl: Forgot to re-stock the first aid kit on that trip.

OK, making sense now (temporaily)

The run the big hospital in Anchorage. Good place (for a hospital).

We missed out on the Med, so I hope they go back there in 2010 AND that we are able to swing it!

We were booked on the Med...but the price of the cruise, plus the price to fly our family of 6, as well as the hotel stay before and after...just pushed the price over the top for us. We transferred our ressie's to the PC when they announced it and it made it a bit easier to only have to fly home from MCO.

We were bummed...but happy to have this trip to look forward to. I would definitely like to do the Med in the future if they go there again.

I was just reading a report from someone who went on the Mex Riviera cruise June 22-29, and this was very interesting (I hope we see things like this!):

SEA LIFE SEEN FROM SHIP: If you're patient, you might see some sea life from the ship. On our first day at sea, as we went down the Baja peninsula, there was a bonanza of sightings. There were whales, a large pod of dolphins, an school of enormous squid, and many flying fish. Flying fish look like enormous dragonflies emerging from under the forward end of the ship. Then they sail just above the water for as much as 50 yards before plopping themselves back in the water. Your kids will love them because they're quite bizarre. There are also large sea birds, like pelicans and frigate birds (which have a dark v-shaped tail). It seemed like the area around the tip of Baja had the most to see, so keep an eye out.

:yay: :yay:

Bonine makes "Bonine for Kids" and is ok for 6 years and up I believe. I buy mine at CVS.

To carry in my bag to read when I catch a moment here and there, I currently have Billy Collins' Sailing Alone Around the Room (collection of poems). I just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns by K. Hossieni (author of The Kite Runner) and really appreciated it. It's a very different sort of story from Kite Runner, but I think you would enjoy reading it. For a complete change of pace, I am now reading When you are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris and can hardly read for more than a minute without laughing out loud (a good reason not to take it on the subway).

Maybe I'll try that. I need something to balance out the PC book. I haven't read any of his books, but I like him on NPR. His sister Amy's book, I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence, is hysterical.

Hi Stephanie

I'm not keen on France and that is why we were only there for about six or seven hours. We went shopping in Cité d'Europe (and spent a small fortune on Australian and New Zealand red wine), then I drove down the coast to Boulogne to see the beach.

Jon will have benefited from the lovely weather we've been having lately (not as hot as Texas). I actually drove past Northampton on Wednesday evening as we went to Wales. Helen's mother had a heart attack on Tuesday and "died" three times so Helen was quite upset and wanted to visit her mother in hospital. The upshot of this is that she can't come on holidays to the USA and the cruise now as the doctor will not allow her to fly the Atlantic until at least next year. From Wednesday to Sunday evening I drove nearly 900 miles - in Helen's car might I add; I'm not putting the miles on mine.;)

Still hoping to see you on ist of September.

David

I am very sorry to hear about Helen's mother -- but, I know it will make your holiday much more enjoyable. ;)

We like red wine from Australia/New Zealand, also!

We are looking forward to seeing y'all!!! When is your next trip to WDW? maybe we can work something out! Cross your fingers that we sell a house or two! ;)

Jon had great weather! He said it was about 30 degrees cooler there then here! :)

Can you tell me how this is going to work? Does it start at 11am and we all go as a big group to each cabin or can anyone just go to any cabin they like?

Well, Kevin and I plan on taking the tour ourselves, so you'll have to wait for us to get back before you can check out the Cat. 6. :rotfl2:

To our close neighbors up north, Happy Canada Day!

Now that we are getting closer, I am going to try to log in more. We have been doing lots of remodeling, went to the World for a week, and have been crazy busy. I can't believe this is coming up. ! Haven't been online much lately.

My DD 9, was thinking that the new Cheetah Girls movie will come out while we are onboard. She will LOVE that.

Still not facing how I am going to pack for 2 weeks!!! Hopefully, I will be meeting others in the laudromat.

Whoever arranged for Fr Mike to say Mass - great job. It will be something to go to Mass with all you DISers during the trip of a lifetime...

Got to get my kids over to the kids board...

Where abouts in Bloomington are you? I lived off of 82nd and Nicollet for about 12 years. My Jr. High and High School are both closed now. Portland Jr. High(I believe is the Administration Building now) and Lincoln Sr. High(now a private company).

If you like him on NPR, you will love his books -- I have ALL of them. I just hope you have someone with a similar sense of humor to read your favorite parts to -- at least for me, it's funniest when shared!

I have to take a 1 1/2 hour ferry ride and then drive about 40 mins. to get to the closest one to me. Hoping it's still open when we go to Vancouver in a couple of weeks. I need a Disney fix. :goodvibes The next closest one is in the States near Seattle - I think.

I'm not too sure there are any left down here either. I know the one at our mall closed, the one at Bellevue Square closed, and the one at Westlake downtown closed as well. I'm not sure about Bellis Fair or Alderwood. It is definitely a bummer. We have nothing Disney in this area any more. Our friends don't understand our obsession. Maybe they aren't really our friends???:confused3 :scared1:

Hello everyone, its been about a month or so since I could sign on tothe DISBOARDS. I tried so many different computers too!! Now we can say its a month away. YIPPEE!!!

So much has happened since I was last on. I cant say I will catch up because thats next to immpossible to do here.

My son is done with school and now is busy with his boy scout EAGLE Project. Hopefully, it will be done by the time we leave..

We are alos getting excited for the trip to Disney land.. My daughter will not be able to cruise with us.. so this may be the last family vacation we take as a whole:((

I did buy material to make a grand royalty type gown for pirate night. If it gets made is another story!! I think it will be very pretty. I did get long gloves for one of the dresses for formal night or Princess night.

Ok I have to go to WW mtg now.. Doubt I lost again but at least I am loosing inches!! I hope I can sign on again...

I have a question and it may have been answered before. Is there a list of kids ages with emails? My son is 15 going on 20 and would like to talk to some kids his age before the cruise. He has gone to the kids website but most of the ones posting are 10 or 11 it seems. Does anyone have a child that will go on the WILD SIDE at CC? or any of the other teen excursions? We are going on the OUTDOOR ADVENTURE in PV.. anyone else???

ok.. and thanks for any input.. BTW.. we are still GTY:((:confused3

I've been watching the Olympic trials for swimming. My brother and I both used to swim and coach (he actually still does)....and they are doing the trials from our home town of Omaha. My brother is timing at the meet. A big thrill for former swimmers.

That is really neat about your brother getting to time at the meet! My dad & brother just got back from Omaha. One of my Uncles died. :sad1: I had really wanted to go to the funeral but, I have no one that could watch 10ds & 7dd.
I didn't want to take young children to a funeral. We are a very close family and he will be missed.
My brother emailed me a pic of the house we lived in the year we lived in Omaha (my dad is retired Navy and we were stationed there 68/69).

I'll be there with her! I picked up Bonine, an herbal supplement, and I'm getting ginger lozenges/pills. We'll see! I REALLY don't want to get sick.

Patches? Do you have to get this from your doc?

Yes. You get a prescription. I just went to a *doc in the box* and told him I get motion sick and needed the patch to be able to cruise! :thumbsup2

I can relate Mike :thumbsup2 Did you know that a migraine can cause a stroke? I know because I had one 2 years ago. I am now on asprin therepy.

I am sorry about your stroke. That is my fear for DH. Seven yrs ago he had a migraine so bad that he went into convulsions. It was his 40th b-day and I was 8mths pg with youngest dd........... He takes Zomig.

I have used the patch many times with no problems. My problem with this cruise is I don't have a Dr. here yet and you need a prescription for them.

I just went to a *doc in the box*. My Dr died a few years ago and I haven't seen anyone since.

All I can say is "That just will not do!"

Figuring out those costs per day and applying to what I tip when I go out with friends while at home, that list is definitely a little "light." At least I know what they are recommending. I'll be doing a lot more than that . . . especially since this is the TOAL for the celebration of my 25th ordination anniversary. My parishioners were extremely generous to me over these past three weeks of celebrations and I intend to "share the wealth."

When I walk off the ship after it is all over, I want the CMs to have a little tear in their eyes because they felt totally appreciated! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info!!!

I love it!!!!!! That is how we feel!
We are taking a couple of Religious on the trip to World Youth Day ( we are doing a week in Korea & then a week in Australia) and one of our leaders said that the last trip with this Brother that he only spent $50 of the $200 in spending moneyt hat we gave him! We don't even know how he ate for so little!!! :confused3

There is always a chance to see whales but the odds will be against us. I have heard of some that live year round in Cabo. You know the whales that talk amongst themselves, "Hey do you really want to swim all the way up to Alaska this summer. Nah, lets stay here and enjoy the nachos and tequila. We can eat that plankton next year." On our 2005 cruise down the coast we saw a pod of about 30 dolphins that put on quite a show for almost 30 mins. The flying fish are awesome and much bigger than you think.

I thought this was so funny that I emailed it to DH! :lmao:

You owe me a phone call!!!

Please give Helen my love!!! :lovestruc I am so sorry to hear about her mother!! I still wish you could have been on this cruise with us!!:sad2:

I'll be calling soon! I have had a not so great last couple of weeks! :sad2:

When I told Samantha about Alex's grandmother the firt words out of her mouth were *Does this mean that they can come on our cruise now???* She was VERY disappointed when I said no. :sad1:

well my wife and i got our 1200 dollars stimulous check yesterday. it will come in handy got a lot of entertainment costs coming up. of course this cruise where all the little things adds up to big $$$. the rebooking on board.
two days later we will be able to book oasis. than by nov 2 i will have to get my rccl cruise paid off for jan cruise. always something

Yes, it is always something.

My kids think this is so cool! We watched the trials Sunday, we'll watch them again tonight. WE LOVE SWIMMING!!! (my house smells like chlorine a lot too.);)
