7th grade pre-algebra HELP!

My daughter brought homework home today and it needs to be done by Monday. I have no idea how to teach her how to do it! Anyway, here is the problem:

924.48 + ((.07(x)) + x) = 1000
Find X.

I am drawing a blank so any help would be great. She said she needs to subtract 924.48 from 1000 which makes 75.52 leaving the problem as

(.07(x)+x) = 75.52

we just aren't sure where to go from here?

Well when you have ((.07)x+x), they are the same power of x, so you can just add them by the coefficients, being .07+1=1.07. The 1 comes from the fact that anything times 1 is itself, and a one in front of the x as in 1x, is not needed. That leaves you with 1.07x+924.48=1000. subtract 924.48 from both sides, to leave you with 1.07x=1000-924.48 or 1.07x=75.52. divide both sides by 1.07 in order to get x by itself, leaving you with x =(75.52/1.07) or x = 70.58.

Add .07 x to 1 x. THen on each side of the equation you have 1.07x= 75.52. In order to get rid of the 1.07, you haev to divide both sides by it. so you end up with just x=75.52/1.07 solve for the answer.

Hey JustineMarie, I just wanted to tell you that youtube is a great resource for math tutoring! My DS took calculus the year my DH was working 2nd shift and I became an expert at googling how to's for his homework... We found a guy with a whole series of lessons that DS says were more help than his teacher.

As a mom I am darn near super woman, but if you want directions, math help or someone who can do anything with music other than listen...I am NOT your girl!

I just wanted to let you know I feel your pain, the kids don't even bother to ask me for help with their math. They surpassed my abilities about 4th grade.

That is so good to know! My daughter is in high school now (at a school) but was homeschooled until last year and there were days in algebra that I had to spend a LONG time pouring over that text book to get it all figured out. I will keep that in mind for my boys.

Another good source is Purple math. They have problem examples actually worked with explanations.

We found a website: www.khanacademy.com. There is so much useful information there on a variety of topics (math, history, science) and it's all videos that you watch which walk you through step-by-step.
