7DMT for 12 yo boy who loves BIG thrill rides

My DD is 12 and she also thinks its lame. She loves BTMR, SplM and SPM. Those are what we get our FP+ for. And BTMR is always at night. If you time it right, you can see Wishes from the top..pure Magic!

I've been that 12 year old boy. He will not like it at all, and I would not be surprised (if he's anything like I was) if he doesn't care for Space BTMR or even RnR/Everest. If he's used to the big rides at Cedar Point and Six Flags, make sure he's not going in expecting to find a new favorite coaster or even one in his top 20.
Oh, we've been there before. Not since he was 8 but even then, he was a daredevil. But he knows that RnR and Everest are as crazy as it gets and he's not expecting more (actually he doesn't expect anything, he doesn't know we're going!) but I just really wanted to get a gauge on whether or not 7DMT would be a total waste of a FP or if it's fun. For instance, we love Peter Pan and it sure is not a thrill ride!

I have all boys, know the age well. My guys have always had a deep appreciation of Disney rides. My now 25 yo LOVES 7DMT. His comments were "It's so well done" And "Don't people get how fast it is?" I think because it's so smooth, like space mountain used to be, some may be wanting a little more. I'd let him give it a try, and use it to see what he thinks! My favorite is Everest, but I still have room to like 7DMT! (and Peter Pan;)

Its very fun! IF you ride at night, ride in the VERY back, and have a FP or don't wait more than 25 min. Its zippy, got some good drops, and its fun! We are born and raised on Cedar Point, LOVE Busch Gardens (who for us is the king of rides for Orlando currently) and still enjoy it. My 38 yr 6'3 husband gets 7D FPs on his own for us (and of course, we wait for the back), which pretty much tells me all I need to know. Its not a HUGE THRILL, but it is fun! I think a perfect MK day for us consists of FPs for 7D, SM, and either Splash or Thunder (either of the two). That's a perfect day for FPs for us.

Still, if Cedar Point is his style, you seriously should consider taking a day at Busch Gardens, because its amazing, the park is huge, and in my opinion, between Falcon's Fury (the freakiest maybe of any ride I've been on, including CP) and the super fun Cheetah Hunt and 100% PERFECT Sheikra (how can a ride be 'perfect'? Ride it and you will see what I mean.), it will be as fun or more than Disney. And the animals are wonderful! The giant refillable drinks for $1 are great and it you like rides, this is your park. And if you don't like rides, you will still have tons to amaze you. (The Lorrie bird house where they fly all around you, the incredible A/C enclosed tiger encounter where you can sit and relax in the heat of the day and watch the tigers, the SkyTram which Disney no longer has, etc.)

Personally, I think if he likes splash mtn, or Peter Pan, I'd keep it. It is much easier, as in much much much to ride BTMRR at another time of day, like rope drop or in the evening. I wouldn't give up your FP because you could change it to BTMRR day of or day before , usually . And you can't get it back to 7dmt. It's new, it's fun. A thrill ride no, but Disney just isn't. My DH is a major thrill seeker and prefers 7dmt to btmrr. They're both "lame" but 7dmt has the Disney touch

As a coaster, he's going to think it's pretty lame. If he's the kind of kid who might be interested in the design, the swaying cars and catching a glimpse of the animatronics, maybe. Otherwise, just when this ride feels as though it might be starting to get exciting from a coaster standpoint, it's over.

My 14 yo son also likes bigger coasters. He did like the mine train, but said he wouldn't wait more than 30 minutes for it.

We've done Busch Gardens Orlando. It was awesome. He and I loved every one of those coasters. We're doing Busch Gardens VA in July :) He'll get his "big" ride fix!

Then 7DMR will just be something fun to do that's zippy but not necessarily thrilling. Still, we really enjoy it. But just don't sit in the middle.

Have fun!

It's smooth. Outside of that - there's not a lot to it. My 5-year-old loves it because she thinks the theme is kind of funny.

For it to be some big thing that WDW made seem like it was now a major attraction is lame. I wouldn't wait more than 15-20 minutes for it.

It's a good ride, but I definitely wouldn't classify it as a Thrill Ride. BTMRR is more of a thrill ride than 7DMT is. And the most disappointing part of 7DMT for us was how short the ride is. I think it's still worth going on, but don't make him think it's going to be a thrill ride.

Just as DAK is "notazoo", 7DMT is "notathrill" ride. It is fun and has a few drops and speedy turns, but, it is mostly a sometimes fast dark ride partially outside. It is fun, and very well done, especially in the mine part and near the end, but, it will not really increase anyone's heart rate, especially if they are big coaster fans. Those big coasters can be found up the road in Universal.

I say keep the FP. If you get there and you decide against it, it should be easy enough to swap it for another ride. OTOH, it may not be as easy to get the FP back if you change your mind. The lines for 7DMT are ridiculously long starting right at rope drop. Even Christmas week we had no problems riding Big Thunder a couple of times without FP but the lines for 7DMT were backed up almost to Storybook Circus by 7:05am!
The ride itself is cute; we all liked it for what it was, including my teen boys. It's not a thrill ride, but none of the Disney rides really are. But, there is no way any of us would wait more than 10-15 min. for it.
