We are headed to WDW from the Cleveland OH area, traveling on 77/26/95. The plan is to take two days to drive down. Leave early, stop in Walterboro SC for the night and finish up the drive on check in day. We've never driven before and the longest road trip the kids (8 & 11) have been on is 4 hours. We were going to take a more relaxed pace on the way back, 3 or 4 days. Where should we stop and what should we check out?

Asheville, NC is nice. It’s just a short drive west on 40 from there to see the Smoky Mountains if you want, and there are lots of things to see and do in Asheville itself. It is a little west if you were planning to pick up 77 in Columbia, but you can continue up 26 to 81 and take 81 up to catch 77 in Wytheville, VA. I have traveled both routes, and I like the scenery better on the Asheville route.

St. Augustine, FL for the fort and sight seeing

Charleston, SC, but a bit out of your way. Plenty to do and sight see. Fort Sumter, USS Yorktown, the Market, carriage rides, ghost tours, etc.

If Folkston, GA is on your trek, it is a nice stop near the Okekonofee Swamp National Forest.
They have air boat rides, hiking.
We stay at the Folkston Inn, very nice bed, wonderful breakfast and very kind hosts!
