I am wondering where I should take my 70 year old dad for his birthday overseas for one last trip?

Why would it be His last Trip ? He might have many more years of travelling ahead of him.

Fly to Munich Hire a car Drive into Austria ..... then Glosknocner Alpine Pass To Italy ... Lake Garda ( Tolbone )

Back into Austria, ( Bremmar Pass ) to Litichenstein ( Davos ) , To Fredrickhaven ( Airships ) A Quick trip to Zurich ( Switzerland )

& Back to Munich . NO need or expensive hotels use chins like " Ring Hotels " " Best Western & "Leonardo" & others

BOOK Half Board (Dinner included +)

We're doing a river cruise with my mom this summer, she's 69 and has cancer. I think it gives her some good options if she's having a "bad" day.

I would ask, what is one thing he's always wanted to see?

Sorry to hear about your dad's health. I agree with the river cruise suggestion. It's a prefect way to see some amazing cities but also allows for the option of resting on the boat if he isn't up for an excursion on a given day. I have said that I would not mind doing the Danube River cruise again and perhaps take things a little slower and not do all of the excursions. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I did but I also would not have minded taking the time to relax too.

Please tell us where he has already been, where he lives and what he likes. This will all have a bearing on what might work for him.

I agree that information about his interests will help, but we are doing a family multi-generational trip with Tauck Bridges to Ireland next month to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary (they are both in their mid 70s). It is them, my sister and me, and my husband and 3 kids. If you are not going with kids, I know that the "regular" Tauck trips skew toward an older and less mobile crowd, or a Mediterranean cruise on Holland America or some other line might be his thing. My parents did a Baltic cruise with us this past summer and next year are doing the Danube river cruise. They did a Christmas Danube Cruise with my Aunt and Uncle last year on Viking, and my Uncle has a number of health issues and they were able to pick things to do that could accommodate his health issues.

Are you paying a visit to the Cork area ,.... Blarney Castle & Grounds...... ?

We are going to Blarney Castle and are spending 3 nights at the Castlemartyr Resort. Here's our itinerary for the time we are there the first week in June:

Continue your Ireland vacation adventure as you travel first class from Dublin on a train bound for the Irish countryside at the southern tip of the Emerald Isle. There, in County Cork, you’ll visit the legendary Blarney Castle, where high up in the battlements await views of green lands... and a chance to lay a kiss upon its famous stone. Be prepared for a backward bend, or two, and a gift – of the gab! After a fitting welcome at Castlemartyr Resort, where you'll spend the next three nights, Irish eloquence of another kind will be yours to enjoy at tonight’s private barbecue, featuring an Irish storyteller.

Enjoy a leisurely morning on the grounds of your Irish home-away-from-home before heading to the Kinsale Pottery and Art Centre for a tour and an artful, hands-on afternoon spent making colorful ceramic pottery and traditional Celtic jewelry. Local artisans show you how to make traditional pottery, helping you hand-build and paint your sculpted piece. You’ll also get to try your hand at Celtic jewelry making using a range of skills covered in today’s class – from design to threading, knotting, fitting crimps and finishing – all in a workshop in the converted stables of the home farm for Ballinacurra House, which dates from the late 1700s. You'll have some free time to explore the town of Kinsale prior to returning to your resort for a free afternoon before dinner tonight.

Have fun working up an appetite for a home-cooked Irish dinner tonight by enjoying a variety of outdoor activities at your resort this morning – including golf, hurling, archery*, and pony trap* rides. After lunch, head out to Ballymaloe, the only cookery school in the world located in the middle of its own 100-acre organic farm. Join your culinary hosts for a guided tour of the gardens and the working farm, experience a cooking demonstration by expert chefs... then show what you've learned when you pair up and cook your own authentically Irish dinner! After you've enjoyed the fruits of your culinary efforts, the fun continues when an Irish musician performs for your group tonight.

Say goodbye to Castlemartyr and continue your Ireland family vacation through lovely, lush landscapes to Killarney. There's no better way to explore Ireland than by bicycle, and that's just what you'll do today on a bicycle ride along the lakeshore of the world-famous Lakes of Killarney – among the most beautiful places in Ireland. Say hello to the townsfolk during lunch in Killarney, then depart for Newmarket-on-Fergus. Have you ever spent the night in a real castle? You will tonight – and tomorrow night too – as we roll out the red carpet for you in Dromoland Castle!
