7 of us going - where to stay?

I'm starting the "7 more months til Disney" chant and so had to come check out the disboards to start my planning! There are 7 of us going this year again. Me, dh, our 3 kids and my parents. Last year we took advantage of that really super Florida resident's special at ASMu at $49 a night! We got 2 rooms and it worked well although a little crowded. We were thinking of "moving on up" to possibly 2 rooms at POR but wondered if anyone had a better idea. We aren't opposed to doing 2 rooms at an AS again (oldest dd wants ASMo - Love Bug, youngest wants ASMo - Fantasia LOL!) We have AP's and DC and Florida residents, so lots of $$ saving options.

My big question was about Ft. Wilderness Cabins. Do they only sleep 6? We need to be able to sleep 7. We don't want to spend over $200 a night combined and know that we can get POR rooms for around $89 a night and AS rooms from $59-$69 a night. Is there anywhere else we could stay for $200 a night for all 7 of us on property (we are enamoured with the resorts, so don't even suggest an off-site place!) LOL!!

With your budget and desire to stay on site, the only viable options are two rooms at one of the value resorts or two rooms at one of the moderate resorts. As far as I know, the FtW cabins sleep a max of 6. You might be able to get by with 7 if one of the children is young/small enough to sleep in a portable crib, though.

If you are willing to spend slightly more than $200/night, you might be able to find a DVC member to rent you a reservation at one of the HAFH resorts. Those rooms sleep 8. If you are going in January, weeknights (Sun - Thur) cost 22 points each. Points usually go for $10 each. Sometime, you can find someone who will rent them for less. You do not need to pay room tax if you rent points. The kitchen will enable you to save $$ on eating out and having a washer/dryer in the room is soooooo nice!When you walk into the two bedroom OKW unit and see all that space, you will think you died and went to heaven!

I'll have to think about renting points. I've heard mixed reviews and heard that you have to be a little flexible on the time you want to go (we can't be unfortunately!)

i agree about the 2 bedroom at OKW. we stayed there the first week of july and it was great!! there were 5 adults and plenty of room. have you looked at the online photos over at deb's site? www.wdwig.com you will be amazed!

My advice would be don't try the FWC. We stayd in them for our family reu. and lets just say they were nice but 6 people getting ready with 1 bathroom isn't pretty. Also if you can find someone willing to rent you the points at a good cost then that is an option as well. I am a dvc member and I needed to rent 47 points last year and had some problems. I would say go for 2 rooms if you could. I really like the fact of having a greater food selection at the mod. and valu. resort. OKW is beautiful but I found it to be a little pricie to feed 6 people at Olivia's eveyday.

i've stayed in the Wilderness Cabins and they were great. There is a bed and bunkbeds in one room (4people) and murphy bed in livingroom (2 people) there is also a nice couch in the living room that could sleep a child. I know I slept on that couch one night when I got sick one night and didn't want to wake everyone else up with my couphing... I was too sick to bother taking down the murphy bed and just layed on the couch.. So you could sleep 7 in there. Minus, would be only one bathroom. Plus would be a full kitchen, cookware, utensils, dishwasher, full size refridgerater, stove, oven, They even come with a nice porch with an outside table and grill on the porch to bbq, though no washer and dryer..... There is also alot to do at Fort Wilderness. petting zoo, beach, boats to rents, sing a longs,campfires nightly with movies, hoop de do, horse back rides, etc etc. and you park in front of your cabin.. Though it is alittle tough getting around inside the camp since it is so spread out....

Thanks everyone! DH and I had a long talk last night about where to stay and we decided that we are either going to do 2 rooms at POR or 3 rooms (2 conjoining and 1 next door) at AS. If we go the the AS route we can put the kids all in one room with the door open and the adults can actually have some space all to themselves.

Now I've got a question about AS's but I better save that for another thread! LOL!
