7 months out for BCV ???

By the way, our guide did have BCV points for us to buy for 106 per point. The only Incentive they could give is no closing costs, but he did say that he expects the extension and that when that does occur they will give us a discount on it because we bought the BCV through DVC directly. Not sure if this was sales pitch, but it makes it a little more interesting.

I've been reading these boards for a couple of years now, and this is the first time I've heard anyone say something like this! "Expects the extension"? and offering a discount because of purchasing directly through DVC?? Sounds like guide talk to me. Has anyone else heard anything like this, even from a guide?

They offered a "discount" to everyone on the OKW extension but it is possible they could do so or only offer the extension to those that bought directly and not those that bought resale.

We are trying to decide if we should buy BCV as our home resort or BLT. We prefer BCV because of various reasons, however we want BLT for the maintenance fees. However, we know that we will definitely want to go to BCV in the summer months. What are the likelyhood of getting 1 to 3 studios at BCV in the summer months at 7 months out?? We are thinking a weeks worth of time.

Thanks we know we won't want to go to BCV all the time. We just want to know that we at least have some shot at staying there some in the summertime.
If you plan exactly 7 months out you have a good chance of getting what you want and you could always wait list or look at a 2 BR instead of 2 studios, not that many more points. IMO, this is simply a personal choice and dollars issue. I would not make the decision based on dues for on property options given they should all be fairly comparable over time. I'd give the opposite advice for HH and VB. BLT is currently less but likely won't remain so. Since you're not mainly planning BCV, I wouldn't pay more to buy there. I'd suggest you look at resale at SSR, BWV, AKV or BCV with price being a large part of your decision. If you simply want to stay at all the places over time but don't mind SSR, that will be the best value you can find. BWV will likely be the next best due in part to the BW and standard view options and that it's a little cheaper than BCV and AKV. OTOH, if you're wanting BLT most of the trips when you don't do BCV, you'll have to decide if it's worth paying almost double for (low $60's vs $107 a point).

This was the second time that he said this to us. He told us this back in January when we asked about a BCV or BWV resale. He sounded very confident that they would probably extend the contracts similar to OKW and that those that bought through Disney would be offered a discount on the extension. I did get "guide" talk from him, but this was not a statement I felt he was hedging on. In fact, he of course would really prefer we buy one of the new resorts, so if he wanted to make us more likely to buy them I don't think he would have mentioned the extension. Just a gut feeling he was telling at least what he thought to be the truth. But he is a salesperson!!

Another question for you Dean :worship:

Let's say I buy at AKV, if I really wanted to stay at BCV for a trip and not worry about getting shut out at 7 months, I could get BCV points transferred in (assuming there was a BCV owner willing to do so and the UY worked for the time of the trip) and still have the 11 mo booking window and control of the ressie right ? Then I could either rent out my AKV points or bank them.

Am I missing something ?

Thanks,

Chris

That being said there are the other factors such as 15 less years and the free room in the summer with the extra SSR points. We were going anyways, so if I buy BCV I will loose that, pay more in maintenance and only pay about 400 less in initial investment. The money part makes more sense to buy BLT, but the emotional side says we like BCV more!

UGH!![/QUOTE]

You do relize those developer points are just for this one year right?:thumbsup2 My brother thought they were free SSR points every year:scared1: which would have been awesome:banana:

No, you could do that up to a point. Just realize that for transferred points to be able to be used inside the home resort window is a manual process so it won't work for something you've got to call on opening day 1 such as 2 queen 2 BR for much of the year or SV/BW view at BWV. Then there's the risk that you may tender payment and not get the points. Personally, I don't think it's worth it unless you need the extra points anyway. If I wanted to stay at a give resort periodically and I though I couldn't get it enough to make me happy, I'd simply add on points there.

Thanks - appreciate your input.

SSR and AKV are our home resorts. I called at the 7 month window to the day, for a one bedroom for 6 nights at the end of the summer. Then, last week, I added two nights during that stay in a studio for our friends. Then I realized i would be better of getting a two bedroom for the whole stay instead, called yesterday and not only was the 2 bedroom available, I got a dedicated one. We've also gotten studios on short notice there at different times of the year. I don't subscribe to the buy where you want to stay rule. But then again, I am not crushed if I call to check availability for a specific resort and it isn't available. I find it thrilling to see what is going to be available when I do call.

I say go for BLT (or AKV) for the extra 15 years. And plan as much in advance if you can, if your heart is set on a specific resort for that vacation. Good luck.

For the past 3 summers, we've never had any problem getting a BCV studio at 7 months out for 8-10 nights in late July/early August. We always call at EXACTLY 7 months out.

We've got 9 nights booked for late July. We can't wait! BCV is our favorite!!:dance3:

I think the economy might be making it easier now to get in at the 7month mark. I bought a second BCV contract a few years ago after several years of trying to get in at 7 month mark with my SSR pts and being unable. This is especially true if you want to go during F&W.

Just because it's easy this year doesn't mean it will be in the future.

I was thinking the same thing. We are not doing WDW this year because of the economy. I think a lot of others are doing the same.

Buy where you want to stay. It sounds like you like BCV a lot, then do BCV. Would you be heartbroken if you cannot get in at 7 months? Three studios is really going to be hard at 7 months, if and hopefully, when the economy picks up.

I do understand the struggles of your decision because I went with SSR in 2006 which had great incentives, lower fees and a longer contract. I spent my first DVC trip at BCV and from the moment I went there I wanted to own there. Money is tight so that BCV add-on is not happening. I am left to the 7 month window, but I have enjoyed SSR tremendously many times. I plan to visit each DVC, but BCV is a hard act to follow.

By the way, I got the last dedicated 2 bedroom at the 7 month window for the last week of August 2007. An awesome time was had by all. I am sure that you and your family will have the same happy times when you stay at DVC too.
Good luck with your decision.

We've always been able to book BCV at 7 months out since we became members in Jan 2006. So the economy issue hasn't made it any easier for me. With proper planning, I've gotten it. Even during F & W one time.
