just want to be sure I understand the 7-month timeframe correctly.

If I want to book a nonHR for April 17, 2017 for 4 nights next year, I should get online and book at the 7-month mark which is Sept 17, 2016...is that correct?!

If by "nonprofit" you mean a DVC resort you do not own, then yes you can book that April 17-21 trip beginning online at 8 a.m. eastern on Sep 17. If you chose to do it by phone, you would have to wait until 9 a.m.

OMG....damn autocorrect....i typed in nonHR and it somehow got corrected to nonprofit...how embarrassing!!!!!

But thank you for confirming!

Let me correct that now!

I would also tell you to book your Home Resort at 11 months, and then just in case there is nothing available, you are still able to go!

Another question if someone doesn't mind answering. I have a reservation Dec 9-12 at AKL Studio (46 pts), which is our home resort. If we want to switch to another resort at the 7-month window ... whats the best way to do it? Cancel, then book? Or book, then cancel? We are borrowing points if that makes a difference. Thanks!!

If you need the points from the first reservation to make the second, your only option is to cancel and rebook, and that includes whether you do it online or by phone. The risk you have if you first cancel and then try to book the new one is that you could lose both reservations between the time of cancelling one and making the other, a risk that defnitely exists at the time of year you will be attempting the change. Assuming you can find another studio open, what you might want to consider doing is the procedure created by Supersnoop, a member of these boards, that avoids the risk of losing both reservations, which is set out in my post at that the following thread http://www.disboards.com/threads/ma...the-process-can-you-go-ahead-of-time.3461485/

On a different issue, if your intent is to switch to a studio at a near park resort (BWV, BCV, VGF, BLT, Poly or VWL) at 7 months out, you likely should not get your hopes up because it is highly likely all those will be gone before 7 months out for the time you want.

One more question. I followed the thread you linked and it has super helpful info. It mentions that Poly often has incorrect availability showing online. Is this still true? Right now Poly shows deluxe studio available all dates of my Dec 9-12 trip. Do you think that is wrong? Thanks again!

I'll jump in and say that I believe that's correct as only Poly owners have booked there so far. Come the 7-month window for those December dates, it's going to be a madhouse trying to book Poly.
