7 month jig is coming up for Thanksgiving....

I had a reservation for SSR Sun-Thrus night. I am now waitlisted for a 2 BR at BWV from Mon-Thurs nights Tgiving week. I was able to get Sunday night at BWV and almost had Tues night until someone snatched it away before MS could finish my reservation, therefore waitlisted. I am most floored that every 2BR DVC unit is sold out for Thanksgiving night. That makes me concerned that the waitlist will not come through for all of my days. I do have another reservation for a 2 BR on Wed and Thurs nights only because my sister may come to join us from Tampa with her family. If she decides not to come, I wil be cancelling that reservation but not until she makes a final decision. So a 2BR unit make be opening up. It is amazing to me how busy DVC has become. Is it because of all the developer points? Are sales moving too quickly without construction keeping up the sales? I am starting to feel a bit disenchanted with our trips to WDW. I am really tired of the mega advance planning and the crowds, And here I am planning a trip at Thanksgiving! What was I thinking?!?!?

I called back today and was able to get my 1 bedroom on Thanksgiving night for cash at VWL. So I went ahead and booked it just in case. I really didn't want to have to move. So now I have the 22nd-27th points, 27th cash, 28th-30th on points. Hopefully my waitlist will come through. I really don't want to pay the $500+ for the one night, but I really don't want to move either. Since I had to borrow most of my points, I hope nothing messes up our plans.

At least you have somewhere to stay and don't have to move for one night.

Started my day by day calling for a 2 bdrm @ BCV and got Sat. night 11/29/08. MS told me that the rest of the week is booked. Hopefully someone will cancel. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I called today to try and get a 1BR at VWL Thanksgiving week. As I expected I am on waitlist. IMHO I think the developer points and then more members are making all the resorts and especially the smaller ones VWL and BCV harder to get. The developer points are used up will help allot. From what I am reading here new members are either being told that getting anywhere at 7 months all the time is easy or getting the impression they are. When we bought in 2001 our guide said it depends on the time of year and mentioned Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and the early Dec as times that book fast. He told us to book at home resort at or near 11 months and then try somewhere else or waitlist, that way you have something. We are already book at SSR and we like it there. The week after Thanksgiving we are at VWL so we would rather not change resorts just rooms. I hope everyone gets what they want or at least something.

We bought SSR in August, 2006, then added AKV in February, 2007. Our first guide told us unless we were looking for holiday weeks or weekends, we would have NO trouble booking at the 7 month window. Additionally, he told us that there was almost always last minute space available. My husband said, "So, we're checking out tomorrow. Any way we could use our points to book a room to stay the weekend?" And he pretty much guaranteed that he could get on the phone that second and book us a room. We've never been big planners, but we were shocked when we went home after that August purchase and began to think about weekends for our October MNNSHP trip. We called with a couple of weekends in mind and we were totally shut out. We ended up getting something - but we had to go in the middle of a week, take kids out of school, not in the resort we wanted, not the size room we wanted, etc. We learned then from reading boards how hard it would be to do last minute trips for a lot of the times we had always considered slow times at WDW.

Now, I feel like we're in a race to book reservations! We're trying so hard to plan as far out as we can. We've also tried to be more flexible so we can get the type of accomodations we want as opposed to a specific date. It's a whole new way of life for us, but we love the DVC properties, so we're willing to learn!

Of course, if my Thanksgiving night wait list doesn't come through, I may have a whole 'nother attitude about things LOL!!

I thought we were going to San Francisco for Thanksgiving to visit my in-laws. Then my DH emails me at work yesterday with the Old Spice B-Ball tournament entrants and low and behold our alma mater is entered. So now he starts thinking about WDW. If he had seen this even 5 days ago, I could have had at least booked most of the trip in a 2BR at OKW. I called this am and could get all but 2 nights there. I called back this afternoon and it's mostly GONE.

Two years ago we booked in July and the waitlist didn't come thru for Thanksgiving night so we moved to the Beach Club. We went from a 2BR into a room for 5.....but they upgraded us to the Concierge Floor.....so we were stunned, happy and well fed for 2 days.

I told DH he has to make his mind up ASAP - but even so we're not going to get BC or BWV. I'm so upset that I didn't know about this sooner or I'd have been on it. I could care less about the B-ball games, but any excuse to be at WDW is fine by me. I'm so bummed.

:(

If there will be a domino effect from members switching reservations at the 7month mark which will eventually open up some rooms, when will it occur? Shortly or closer to the 30 day mark or somewhere in between?

I thought that there would be some movement at 7 months... but it appears I'm wrong....

If anyone hears anything, please let us know.

Well I can't believe we did this, because we had absolutely no intention of going to WDW this year.....but we're booked at OKW for 5 days, then 3 nights after the 30th in a 2BR. All we need is the 26th & 27th. So we're waitlisted too. Can't get a 2BR with cash. So I hope some other folks change their minds. Tomorrow I'll have to come up with plan B for those two nights. Couldn't deal with it today.

Now I need to rent more points so that I can snag another studio in case my sister wants to join us with her son who'll be two that week.

Well I just checked the website and it looks like my waitlist already came through for Thanksgiving night in the 1 bedroom at VWL. It must have come through today since I just booked the cash reservation yesterday (or was it Tuesday, I'm losing track of time) At any rate I'm happy. I hope everyone else's waitlist comes through.

I hate to say it, but I was seriously hoping the gas prices and the economy would have some people second guessing going on a trip to Florida! I guess, though, if you're a DVC owner and the accomodations are already paid for, it's more of an incentive to use that over any other vacation :-(

I think the developer points are adding to the highly used points this year.

I agree, I think it's the same thing we saw for this summer at VB. People in the past had been able to book at 7 months for the summer and this year :scared1:.

Do the developer points need to be used by the end of the year or is it by the end of your UY? I wasn't in the buying mode so I didn't pay attention to those emails or many of the threads.

The ones we got had to be used one year after the the date we signed the papers. You can only use them at 7 month point.

Still on WL....

I need pixie dust.

I made back up reservations at the ALL sports - garden view was around $130 w/ tax.

Gotta love our DVC points. 8 pts for Studio at OKW - $40 ($8 * 5 for maint).

One night on our waitlist came through yesterday so we have Sunday and Monday nights of Thanksgiving week at BW and are waitlisting day by day for the next three which are obviously going to be the hardest to get. Keeping my fingers crossed! Pixie Dust to everyone else who is on the waitlist!
