7 Month disappointment and frustration

I have been stalking a particular room for a while now. My 7 month mark hits this morning. Walking was not an option, as there were no dates ahead of it to walk.

The dates I was looking at have been available for weeks. I got on last night, just to make sure, held my breath, and they were available. Hurray!

I barely got any sleep last night. I was afraid to oversleep, so I was awake most of the night.

Anyway, 7 am this morning rolls around. I get on, so I am ready and prepared for when 8 am hits. And bam, sure enough....the first night is gone.

I am heartbroken, and could almost cry. I'm trying to figure out what happened. I guess a member must have booked a single night at the very last minute.

Sorry, I think I just needed to vent.

It is only 7:32AM EST right now so possibly you are off by an hour?

Yes, but it's already gone is my point.

It was there last night, and it's not now. If it were gone as of 8:01 AM, that would make sense. It being gone prior to 8 AM, means someone snatched it up between 9 pm last night and now.

Just disappointing, that's all.

Sad for you. Waitlist …or what will you do now?

I’m sorry as it is frustrating. It is obviously something that others wanted and because you are at the 7 month window, it’s possible there were not very many rooms booked.

Just keep trying and waitlist! Also, if the rooms disappear and don’t come back it isn’t walking. It is simply more want to go those dates than rooms

Not much else you can do since it must have been either an owner who wanted it or someone who had the room already and extended.

Put in a waitlist and/or book a back up and replace the booking with the waitlist. If you have time, i would check periodically to see if your dates are available. I have had success in booking rooms that I waitlisted before the waitlist was filled and canceling the waitlist.

Good luck OP.

Just to give you some hope. I had, by mistake, cancelled a one bedroom standard room at BLT for the first week in Dec. Some of the busiest DVC time of the year. I had gotten most of the nights back within a min, but still missing two nights. About a month later at the 6 month point, I got back one night. Still hoping for the other missing night.

So as others have said, waitlist and stalk.

Thanks everyone. I am currently waitlisted, and will also be stalking.

Just out of curiosity....if the second day remains available, should I snatch that up tomorrow? Will that affect my waitlist? I wonder if it would bump me down the line to modify the waitlist.

No I get it, I do.

I think the part that was such a gut punch was it was available before I went to bed. And usually....in my experience, when something is there the night before, it will be there the next morning. Because usually if someone is going to grab it up, they do it first thing.

So, the fact that it happened in the 9-10 hours between the times I checked is what gets me.

I would grab what you can tomorrow. Can you create a second waitlist right now for just the missing day? Then if you get the second day tomorrow cancel the initial waitlist.

Either way you have more luck to match a single day on the waitlist vs a longer waitlist so even if it bumps you down the line I think personally your shot will be better.

I’d be bummed but not surprised. Often lots of people jockeying for rooms. It would be nice like some programs if it gave you an idea of how many of that room type remain for a little more clarity. I’m hoping you booked at your home resort so you have a room. Of court some resorts like Aulani there’s no backup plan. Waitlist luck to you.

What.... SSR was booked solid at 7 months?! Naw, just kidding.

We've noticed that more and more resorts are getting harder to get at 7 months. Heck even prime rooms at 11 months are getting more challenging. We've come to accept SSR is a great resort when we want to save points and can't get the desired non-Home resorts choices. So it's Waitlist, Stalking, Cash-Reservation and/or Buy-In to the resort you really want.

Good luck with your pursuit of the elusive unicorn DVC room.

Every point sold at RIV, VDH and CFW (and soon, PolyDayInn) adds more owners to the system at 7 months. Now, it does add units (that may or may not of interest or bookable by existing owners), but for the highest demand resorts like BCV and BWV, it is going to create a lot of 7-month mayhem.

Because I tend to visit during Dec. peak WDW DVC demand times I book at home resorts & don’t even try to move at 7 months. The only time I tried to grab a 7 month booking was two years ago for VGC - which I don’t own, I was looking for a 1 br. or a studio & I watched availability like a hawk, leading up to my 7 months there were spotty openings but by the time my window opened, poof it was gone & despite stalking for the next 7 months & waitlists nothing ever came through. This was for 4 nights in Oct. during Oggie Boggie (sp?) so a very popular time for a very small resort. I don’t know if availability would be better now w/ VDL being open.

You can find that out using webpage tools, someone posted how to do it on here before, I thought I saved the link to it but dont have it apparently.

Maybe someone else does.

Yeah....I mean I did a couple of test runs within the last couple of weeks. Two were successful, one was not.

So, I was at least somewhat hopeful that I would have at least a shot at the 8:00 AM sweepstakes.

But, for the 8:00 AM sweepstakes to not even happen was not what I was expecting. I just figured any 11 month people would have booked by last night.

If I had lost out to another 7 monther- eh, that's the way the cookie crumbles. I was prepared for that. But, for the room to be available for weeks and weeks up until last night...and then be gone first thing in the morning. I just wasn't expecting it to work out that way.

Also, not a WDW location, as you guessed., so home resort doesn't do much for me. Thanks for the well-wishes!

There IS a backup plan. It's just much pricier than Plan A.

Update:

I was able to get the second night of the reservation. I was unable to modify the waitlist on my own, so rather than cancel and book a new one, I will wait and call member services. I dunno if it would make that much of a difference, but every inch helps.

Unfortunately, the first night didn't open up. I thought there was maybe a chance it was a walking situation, and once it was walked, it may open back up. But that doesn't seem to be the case, at least not yet.

If you are talking about Disneyland, the 7 month window just passed over their race weekend. That is probably why the rooms are so popular. As for why the room suddenly disappeared, I can only guess. I think others have observed the same strange room behavior where a room disappears shortly before 8am.
If I were a walker, I could possibly consider walking at 7:45am then walking again at 8:01? I don't know if that makes sense for a walker or not. I think the way to see if walking is happening is if availability shows up for prior days.
