7 month booking window question

Today is May 8. If I'm looking to rent a specific resort with my visit starting on December 15 this year, can I rent from someone with points at any resort? Is it a normal 7 month count, which I feel i am within the 7 months at this point, or do I count the month we are in, which has November as the 7th month, and therefore I would have to wait until June.

I feel like this is a silly question, but I assumed the first, meaning I could rent out from someone now, but am getting a different message.

You can rent a vacation 7 months from today. This means you could rent points from anyone for a vacation that started December 8 or earlier. In 7 days, you will be able to rent points from anyone for Dec 15. To rent those points today, you would have to find someone that has home resort advantage.

DVC Members who do not own a resort can book at that resort starting 7 months out from date of arrival. Thus, for December 15 start date, the first such booking date is May 15. As a result, to book with a December 15 start date today, you would need to find an owner of the particular resort.

I'm participating in the marathon in January and plan on using my points. I own at Poly but didn't want to stay there. Last I checked there were rooms available, but today I looked again and it's all booked up! And the 7th month window hasn't even opened up yet. I still have about 3 weeks. Should I be worried that I won't be able to get a room? I'm a new DVC owner and haven't had my first stay yet.

For me that Friday has been the only time I've ever had difficulty trying to get any room with an under 7 month booking. There are quite a few DVC owners that bought to use for races and since they are signed up for the race it seems to be a timeframe with much less cancellation from my observation. Can it happen? Yes, but studios have been gone for more than a little while for those dates (we were contemplating going for the race so I was checking). It's a time, like most of the last quarter of the year that you want to book your home resort and then try and switch at 7 months if there's anything else still available - especially if you want a studio.

If I have specific dates I want to stay, I book home resort at 11 months then call member services to switch to another resort at exactly the 7 month mark, if available. That way I'm sure I will have a place to stay instead of nail-biting until the 7-month mark.

You should be worried. Marathon weekend in Jan, particuarly the Thurs through Sat, is an extremely high DVC demand time. At 7 months out, it could be difficult to get anything anywhere, particulary when seeking a studio. Possibility exists for SSR but no certainty for even that. For marathon weekend in Jan 2017, the Poly, BWV, VGF, BLT, BRV, BCV, OKW, and AKV Jambo studios were gone for the entire weekend by 7 months out from Jan 5 (the Thurs of the weekend) ; AKV Kidani standard and savanna view studios were gone for Jan 5 and 6 , and SSR studios were gone for Jan 6. If you own at Poly, you should immediately put yourself on the wait list there and hope it comes through or that something else is open at 7 mnths out.

You could have worded your answer much more politely but you choose to be impolite for no reason. Instated that I am a new owner and haven't had my first stay yet.
Next time you decide to be "helpful" please I will so with kindness. WHen people ask questions it's usually because they honestly don't know.
