7 month booking strategy for split stay

What would be the best strategy to accomplish this feat. I currently have a 4 night value studio at AKV for early May. At the seventh month window I would like to switch this to a split stay, hopefully between GFV and BCV. ( or BLT and BWV).

I will need to cancel my value room in order to be able to make these reservations, but here is my question. I cannot book a split stay on the same 7 month window day right? I could only book the first two nights, and then I would have to wait for 2 days before booking the 2nd 2 nights correct? Would it be best then to split up my current 4 night reservation into 2 two night reservations so that I would be able to cancel 1 at a time. Has anyone done this?

A split stay for a 4 night trip may end up being counter productive to your time schedule as packing/moving/unpacking between resorts is time consuming and disruptive. But it has been done before and if you realize this going into the split stay, the more power to you and enjoy the experiance of 2 resorts.

DW and I planned our upcoming split stay in the same manner as you describe. We initially booked our home resort (BLT) at 11 months out. For our split stay, our priority was to get a 1 BR at BCV, but that was at the second half of the split stay. So we waited 7 months and 4 days to do the split stay reservation changes. Since we vacation primarily in Sept, we were fairly confident that we would get our desired bookings. Monitoring room availability on DVC Member Site the previous year helped us gauge room availability for our vacation slot.

If you have enough points available, keeping your original reservation active until you've created your new reservation would be recommended to ensure you still have a place to stay.

You will not be allowed to split your current stay if it is all 1 room type. Your choices are to cancel it all at 7 months and hope for the best. Call when member services opens and have them modify it and book the first 2 nights if available. Or wait until 7 months 2 days when you can book it all.
